Seaside comfort and relaxtion.

  • 4 of 5

House was more than large enough with many bedrooms and bathrooms and two kitchens but is in need of some repair. We didn't miss air conditioning; cool evening breezes made sleep pleasant indeed. Location is excellent, bot with regard to nearby beaches and shopping as well as acces to Portland. Met the very nice neighbors (and Red, the very friendly dog) and would not hesitate to recomment it.

Great house for multiple families

  • 5 of 5

We've stayed at this house for 3 summers in a row and love it! My sister and I grew up not far from Cape Elizabeth, but have both moved out of Maine as adults and live on opposite coasts. When we decided to start having an annual family reunion with both our families & our parents to enjoy time together all under one roof, we did TONS of searching through many different sites with both of our "wish lists" for a vacation house that could please 3 generations - and this house pretty much checked every box!

What we love about it:

-3 king beds & plenty of bathrooms! - none of the adults feel like they are getting the short straw + extra bedrooms, so we don't have to share w/ the kids!

-Washer/dryer & all linens provided - my sister has to fly to get here, so her family can pack light without worrying they can't make it through the week with what they can bring.

-2 kitchens/2 living spaces & a huge dinging table we fit around to all eat together- LOVE this! My parents can retire to a quieter area when the grand kids are being unruly!

-Kitchens have everything you need - and Liam was extremely responsive & helped immediately when we had an issue w/ the dishwasher last summer.

-Nice yard & deck, the kids enjoy playing in the yard.

-Walking distance to water, but not ON the water - little kid legs can easily make the walk (to an essentially PRIVATE beach cove), but we're not constantly paranoid they have access to open water (if we were beachfront).

-Location! very close to so many fantastic things to do: Two Lights State Park, the Lobster Shack, Kettle Cove (you can follow the path at the end of the "private" cove and walk there if you want, but there is parking too), Crescent Beach, Kettle Cove Creamery (we enjoyed riding bikes there for ice cream), The Good Table (fabulous breakfast!), The Bird Dog Road House (formerly Rudy's) 27 beers on tap & great food! Just a short drive into Portland to see the Sea Dogs play, breakfast at Becky's Diner, The Holy Donut, shopping in the Old Port, MANY fabulous restaurants (and just SO many more fun things to do).

Don't choose this house if stairs are an issue -we are lucky our parents are fine w/ stairs.

The house does get warm, but we grew up w/o A/C, so it doesn't bother us. If you're looking to party, this house isn't for you. It's a very quiet, residential neighborhood (which we love), and the neighbors have always been so kind to us.

Hoping to be back again next summer!

Perfect Maine getaway

  • 5 of 5

The house was exactly what we needed and so much more. It was completely stocked with every comfort of home and we really appreciated not having to pack many kitchen items or linens. What a time saver! We loved having the extra space for our two families--two living areas and kitchens and plenty of bedrooms. The neighbors were wonderful and welcoming. We treasured our week in this special place. Thanks to Liam for all his assistance.

adequate but in need of smartening up: sliding doors, blinds, window openers, south side ventilation

  • 3 of 5

This house worked well in that it had many bedrooms and baths for our three generational group of five adults and three children. It was very clean despite its bits of shabby, worn out hardware such as the sliding doors and window blinds. The manager, Liam, was super nice and quick to respond to any question. The neighbors were also really friendly and happy to answer questions. The house has six levels and five half staircases connecting those levels. Anyone having any problem with stairs, this is NOT the house for you. The entire south wall was built originally for passive solar heat. Now, that would be a great feature on a sunny day in December, but in July or August, it turns the house into a warming oven. All those windows that you see in the picture are permanently shut. Two of the three basement bedrooms get no fresh air and are stuffy and too warm. The pictures on the VRBO site are somewhat misleading, because the views of the lawn and water are a quarter of a mile away at the beach, not within sight of the house. The beach was lovely and quiet. All in all the house was adequate, but I can't give it a very positive review. The photographs were not accurate in their portrayal, and the house definitely has some problems.

Owner's Response: Dear Future Guest, The house has a total of five levels and that includes the finished basement as one level and the small cupola or lookout room at the very top of the house as the fifth level. The post and beam home was built in 1984 by an engineer who designed the home to capture the suns energy by creating a passive solar room. The windows and many of the fixtures are original to the home however, the home is clean, maintained, functional and a terrific value at the current rent per week. Updating all of the mentioned concerns would command an increase in rent to be competitive with surrounding rentals. As this is the first complaint received in 5 years regarding the heat, I suspect this is due to the fact that we are currently experiencing one of the warmest summers in decades with temperatures consistently in the mid to upper 80's and 90's and consistent high humidity compared to an average summer temperature of 77 - 79 and low humidity. All of the photos were taken with a typical point and click camera and none of them were edited. These are true pictures of the home without false advertising. With the exception of photos 2-4 of the beach and waterfront (provided only to show what the private beach looks like which the home has access to) all of the photos were taken from the house. Clearly the other photos that show the view of the water were taken from the deck as you can see the railing in the photo. The house is approximately 988 feet from doorstep to ocean and the description accurately states that the beach is a 5 minute walk from the house. If this house were directly on the ocean, the rent would be more than double. The rent is priced accordingly and already takes into consideration the deficiencies mentioned in the review. I encourage anyone with specific questions regarding the house or surrounding area to contact me directly by phone or email. Cheers!

Nice week in Cape Elizabeth

  • 5 of 5

We spent a fun and relaxing week at 15 Angell Point Road! It was our first time to Portland and this house provided a spacious, perfectly located base of operations. We were able to invite another family of 4 to stay with us and we still had bedrooms unused and plenty of bathrooms. The location is about 15-20 minutes outside downtown, but very close to several lighthouses and a short walk to a private beach or the state parks nearby. The neighbors were very nice also, welcoming us and giving suggestions for places to go. The house has great views of the ocean from several floors and a nice deck to enjoy the breeze, cook on the grill, or walk down to the beach. The dual kitchens and family rooms make it very easy for adults and kids to enjoy different things, or just for people to spread out. The house's entertainment systems and wireless internet worked well, although we had a little trouble with watching regular tv and occasionally had to reboot the router because we had too many devices connecting to it (cell phones, laptops, and ipods, oh my!) Liam was very helpful in the time up to our rental and someone even came to collect the trash and recycling for us. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and I would recommend the home to anyone.

Great location - pleasant setting - nice house

  • 4 of 5

We were a family of 7 adults and 2 children. More family stayed nearby. The house is in a perfect location for enjoying Kettle Cove, Two Lights and biking Cape Elizabeth. The house has two nice living areas and a top perch for viewing the water and stars. The bedrooms and bathrooms were adequate but not great. All and all it worked well for our family especially since it is difficult to find a house that can accomodate 11 people. Also - the neighbors were friendly and gave great advice on where to shop and what to do!
