The only 'new' structure on the property, Timber Lodge is a rough-hewn timber home built in 1990. A favorite of many of our guests, it sits farthest from the water, but boasts a beautiful view of the Timber Bluff grounds, and Lake Michigan beyond. A large outdoor raised deck with table and chairs overlooks the tall trees and beautifully landscaped grounds of Timber Bluff. Its provides a great spot for relaxing and entertaining outdoors.
The floorplans were modified in 2008, and the interior was transformed to feature the post and beam structure of this wonderful home. The entire house is pine, inside and out. The first floor is a large open room combining the kitchen, dining and living areas. The fully equipped galley kitchen has a large island with five stools for eating meals.
A beautiful split face stone fireplace with raised hearth, reclaimed pine floors, leather furniture, game table, and warm lighting, all contribute to the rustic warmth of Timber Lodge, which can be enjoyed through all the seasons. This is an ideal home to nestle in, for snowy winter stays. There is also a full bath with shower on the first floor.
The carpeted second floor has a small sleeping nook with privacy screen and full bed, a second bedroom with a full bed, the second bath and shower, and a skylit sleeping loft reached by a steep ladder/stair with twin mattresses that can be pushed together to make a second king sleeping area. A pair of double glass doors lead to the large master bedroom with king bed, vaulted ceiling, and a beautiful view of the grounds and Lake Michigan beyond.
Linens and towles are provided. Coffee maker, coffee, tea, sugar, condiments, and starter supplies of paper products are on hand. A grill is on the deck for cookouts. For summer stays, you will need to bring beach supplies. This home accommodates 8 people, Timber Lodge is a beautiful, comfortable home.
We really like Timber Bluff; in fact, we've already booked for next year. The grounds of the property are beautifully landscaped. Every cottage has a nice, secluded patio. We stayed in the large A-frame with four adults and one child. Plenty of room for everyone. Our granddaughter slept in the loft and loved it. We especially loved the chiminea; had a fire in it every night. We enjoyed joining the other guests each evening on the large patio by the bluff to watch the sunset and have a glass of wine. The property was definitely clean and well-maintained. The private beach is a definite plus. With beach chairs and umbrellas for all to use plus some water toys. I would definitely recommend this property to friends and relatives. The Lodge has a large patio with table; we ate most of our meals out there.
While the view, outside environment and comfort inside were good the cabin it's self did need some cleaning. Lots of dust on curtains, corners and decorations. The stairs to the loft are not good for older people as there is no banister as well as the stairs going upstairs. The older group of people found this hard to feel secure. Loved the washer and dryer, the kitchen , the two baths, the fireplace, the deck all the appliances and of course the general quietness.
Our first rental impression of the Lodge at Timber Bluff was positive ( "just as advertised"). The lodge decor could be described as comfortable yet elegant cottage fare. The resort has a number of rentals near to each other, but the owners have designed and maintain gardens which offer privacy and beautiful views outside and on the deck. The lodge kitchen was completely equipped and all appliances were in clean and in good condition. The Lake Michigan beach is accessible by a sturdy and well maintained staircase. We rented a wave-runner for a day at the public docks in nearby Saugatuck. With just a 45 minute trip to the beach , our two teenage boys were able to enjoy an exciting day on the water. The Douglas-Saugatuck area has something for everyone... Great restaurants, countless outdoor activities, and a short drive to sight see in Holland, South Haven, and Grand Rapids. All in all this is a rental worth revisiting... And we will be back in 2014.
It is hard to share this gem with others as it took us several years to find this idyllic spot. It has been our family retreat on the lake for two years now and we plan to return every year. The Lodge at Timber Bluff is a beautiful log house just up the private drive from a breathtaking view of Lake Michigan and the properties large viewing deck overlooking the stairs down to the sandy private beach. The owner has thought of everything including a heated shower on the beach stairs, chairs-umbrellas, a fire pit and several kayaks as well as a large raft. This is a very family friendly yet peaceful vacation spot and the swimming is as good as it gets on the lake. We love the washer and the dryer, the fireplace which is so nice on a cool morning and the new air conditioning system, this is far from roughing it! The owner is always so friendly and helpful. We especially enjoy the quiet setting and the other families that return year after year!
The lodge at Timber Bluff is beautiful! It's modern with updated appliances and features, but with a rustic charm. I stayed here in late October with a bunch of girlfriends for a ladies weekend away from the city. It was the perfect place to eat home-cooked meals, drink wine, and relax! The spacious kitchen made it easy to cook throughout the weekend, and there was plenty of table and counter space to eat and play games. It was too cold and windy to swim, but we took advantage of walking along the beach, which is right next to the Lodge. Mike was really great to deal with, and I'd certainly go back again in a heartbeat.
