We have been coming to the Vineyard and renting in Katama for 17 years. Over that time period we've rented many homes in Katama and have also stayed at the Mattakesett town homes by South Beach. We loved Don and Kathy's house for many reasons. First of all, Don is so welcoming and kind and he lives right around the corner and can be available to help or answer questions at any time. We brought our two daughters (12 and 16) and their two friends and there was more than enough space for all. The backyard was great for the 12 year olds - they loved the hammock and swing. We were very close to the bus stop, which meant our older girls could grab the bus to town or the beach at any time. We were also a very short walk to the Right Fork Diner and this is one of our favorite places on island! We loved the master suite and how removed it was - very private and quiet. There were also lots of perks for families with small children that we wished we'd had when our girls were small. We are already booked for next summer and look forward to coming back. Hopefully this time my younger daughter can take Don up on his kind offer to sail or kayak since we couldn't fit it in this year!
We have been renting for a week every summer on the Vineyard since 2000. Over the years our lives and needs have changed. In addition to our two children and their spouses, we now have 2 active grandsons. We went looking for a place that would provide the right family accommodations for getting together and catching up with each other along with privacy for everyone. This property scored 100% in every department.
The house has a great setting with a house layout that nicely separates the sleeping areas from the “great room”. The property has numerous amenities that worked perfectly for everyone; the backyard is very private with a great deck for cooking on the grill or catching up with the kids; a beautiful yard to let the kids run around and play ball; a two car garage that the owner turned into a “Green Monster” Fenway Park and “Sophie’s playhouse for the grandsons. We had two days of rain. The Green Monster and playhouse were a welcome haven to entertain the grandchildren. The house is easy access to South Beach, Edgartown, and Oak Bluffs. Going to South Beach is effortless. If you want to dine out in Edgartown, it is minutes away. We go to Menemsha at least twice during our stay to see the sunset. The property is meticulously maintained. Don and Kathy are great to deal with. We cannot wait to go back to the Vineyard and this property in August. The Vineyard and this property is a slice of heaven.

When you rent a vacation place on line you're never quite sure what you will get, but this home exceeded the description in every way. Close enough to enjoy all the fun in town and the beaches, but far enough away to enjoy the peace and relax.
When an owner cares about a place it shows in the little things and Don has packed a lot of quality, craftsmanship and imagination into his home. In fact he's still doing it. The master bedroom and family room, at opposite ends of the house, are HUGE. The kitchen had everything we needed, and the other beds and baths won approval from my three 29 year old girls.
Don himself is just a great guy. He checked in numerous times during the week to see if there was anything he could do for us. Any questions about the house or the island were answered with a smile and usually a joke. He couldn't have done more.
I would recommend this to anyone. My wife and I, 3 daughters and 2 sons-in law for seven days in the same house, ( 3 of which rained), and nary a cross word was spoken. Heaven.
An enjoyable bike ride to town is easy from this home in the daylight or for a little more adventure, after dark as well. Down the road from the famous South Beach with an expansive beach area that never felt crowded even during the July 4th week. Just prior to South Beach is the MV Farm Institute where you can shop for grass fed local meats. Go back to the house and cook on the Weber grille and enjoy the wonderful deck and landscapes. Eating out is a cinch in Edgartown w/many restaurants to choose from.
Thanks very much for everything Don. We'll still be thinking about this when the snow flies.
This rental could not have been better! It was absolutely fantastic. Our group consisted of me, my sister and her husband and 2 kids (7 and 4) and an overnight visit from our parents. The house is incredibly well appointed, spacious and comfortable. The kids absolutely LOVED Fenway park and Sophie's shed.
We had more than enough room with spare bedroom but the spaciousness was just what we were looking for -- and you often don't get in a vacation rental.
We enjoyed the nearby beach -- south beach -- about mile but found the calmer waters of state beach to be a better option for the kids.
For meals We enjoyed burgers on the grill and lobster another night and loved taking the kids to the right fork diner near the little airport down the street.
Our landlords Kathy and Don were fantastic from booking the rental and throughout our stay. They clearly bring attention to the details that can make a home away from home truly great.
Our experience could not have been better
One of the most sought after areas on the Martha's Vineyard, Katama is a great area for family oriented visitors. Katama is not only close to the village of Edgartown, it is also close to fabulous South Beach. Two large, safe and convenient bike paths go to the beach and to town. In addition, just down the road from our
house, an island run trolly passes going to the beach and back to town where you can connect to all points on island. (Oak Bluffs,Vineyard Haven, Tisbury,West Tisbury, Chilmark and Aquinnah).
Other Activities: shell fishing, lighthouses, playground, Katama Farm Institute, airplane rides at Katama Airfield, kayaking and surf fishing.
