Why Marsha Waugh chose Elk Meadows

Jody grew up in Durango and always wanted to live in the mountains. After spending their honeymoon in the San Juan mountains, Jody and Marsha dreamed of having a place to share with family and friends. This spot is within an hour of many of the area's attractions. Our newly built home lets you experience life in the mountains with all the comforts of home at the end of the day.

What makes this house unique

With year round access, our guests can enjoy travel any time of the year. The cozy home allows you a place of refuge along with all the modern amenities. Our guests love the antiques and art that are displayed in the house. It is wonderful to sit on the sofa and watch the sunrises, and sunsets on Mt. Sneffles. The deck is a great place to relax, read, or eat. Seasonally, we watch the deer and elk stroll through the property. Hawks and other birds fly overhead. During the summer months, hummingbirds dart around stopping to drink from the seasonal wildflowers.

Beautiful and comfortable

  • 5 of 5

My family and I had a wonderful, relaxing week! The view from the house was gorgeous and the house was so accommodating. The kids and adults loved it! My favorite was cuddling on the couch, coffee in hand, and watching the mountains during sunrise with the fire lit. I would love to come back again someday!

Great cabin

  • 5 of 5

We really enjoyed staying at Mt. Sneffels Retreat. It was comfortable and very quiet. The stars at night were amazing to look at and the aspens and early snow on the mountains really added to the beauty of the area. The cabin is centrally located to explore many places. We visited Telluride, Ridgeway, Ouray, Silverton and Black Canyon. Marsha was very friendly and quick to answer questions. Looking forward to another stay at Sneffels Retreat!

Awesome mountain views!

  • 5 of 5

Sniffles Retreat offered a great mountain stay! I could not believe the awesome view of the mountain range we observed straight from the living room couch or the kitchen table. The wrap around porch drew us out as we were fixated on the view. While outside we saw various wildlife including a coyote and deer. Down the road, bear and elk were encountered. This cabin was perfect for our visit with my son who lives in the area. The kitchen was well stocked with cooking utensils. Ridgway has many fine restaurants that we enjoyed such as Eatery 66 and Kate's, but we also had Freshly delivered the Friday prior to our arrival and easily had home cooked in the evening after exploring the area. While my husband and father we focused on fly fishing, I enjoyed hiking to Blue Lakes and even conquered the 14150 ft Mt Sneffels peak. A local bike shop next to the ice cream parlor allowed be to rent a bike and ride CR 23 to CR 17 to Ouray which was challenging but so beautiful. Ridgeway is an awesome are and Sneffels Retreat a perfect Howe Away

Fantastic Home in the Mountains

  • 5 of 5

We were extremely impressed with the Sneffels Retreat, as this is a home, not just a rental. What I mean by that is some rental are sparsely outfitted, but not this home. You can tell the owners built this home with love. Every detail here is set up to make your stay inviting and comfortable. The kitchen is well appointed with the necessary items to cook and prepare meals. The beds are very comfortable and the bathrooms clean. I just cant say enough on how nicely everything is set up. The views from the family room and deck are amazing. Your just a few minutes from Ridgeway, which is a great little town in its own right with restaurants and groceries. Ouray is just a short drive too. We saw deer in the yard and even a small bear climbing out of the creek a few miles down the road, which the kids loved seeing. The views of the Milky Way stars from the deck at night are absolutely amazing. Overall our experience was a 10, we could not have asked for more.

We wanted to thank the owners for creating and sharing such a special place.

Thank you,

The Wilson's.

Enjoyed our stay- the house was great - the view from the house was amazing.

  • 4 of 5

The only reason we can't give it five stars is the distance from town and the road getting there. Because we were riding trails around Ouray every day, the time spent getting in and out was too long. The road needed to be graded badly because of the recent rains, so pulling a trailer was super slow going.
