About Annette Cates
My roots run deep here in Page County as I come from the Peter Ruffner Family... I feel blessed to have been raised here in Page County and I wish to share the blessing by sharing our place so all can create memories with their families that will last a lifetime.
Annette Cates purchased this Campground in 2013
Why Annette Cates chose Luray
Along with the Rock Tavern Cabin - #1 Rock Tavern River Kamp was part of same property that my Uncle Abe and Aunt Lizzie owned - they operated a tavern and rented campsites for years. I am grateful to get this property back in the family. When I was a young girl - I would fish from this riverbank with my Mom and Dad along with Uncle Abe - we would go dipping and have the best time - I have fond childhood memories here.
What makes this Campground unique
Our Kamp is of unique character with 12 sites ( 4 of which have yurts for rental). If you have always wanted to go camping but do not want to sleep on the ground....this is for you! Staying in a yurt is quite the experience - one cannot explain - must experience it for yourself- There is just something about 'Vacationing in the Round' words just cannot express.

Nice getaway,...smaller campground but well kept.
Better than expected and very comfortable
Property was nice. It was right off the highway so a bit noisy at times from cars but easy to drown out. Our yurt was steps away from the river and the breeze from that and the soothing noise made it very comfortable. The Cherokee Rose Yurt was better than expected. Nice big beds! Annette was wonderful. She accommodated our needs and helped us figure out a longer canoe route. She also provided us with transportation back to the site after our canoe trip. We were able to rent her canoes and that was extremely convenient! She also recommended a great pizza place. We went to the restaurant but they would have delivered. Everything was in working order. No complaints. Great little vacation! We would go back.
Thank you for taking time to share your experience with others.
Lovely place for a stay!
We really enjoyed our stay in the Hummingbird Yurt despite the fact that it rained all weekend. The yurt is well-kept, as is the rest of the property, and had everything we needed for a great stay (it was cold and the space heater did an awesome job!). This is a fun, affordable way to escape the city for a few days for someone like me who hates camping. Thanks Annette!
You are welcome! Thank you.
even with 3rd night free, price was too high for what was available. Could have had a nice hotel room with all the amenities. Had a good time, but with having to go to a bathhouse I would think the price should be about $50 a night. Yes, scenic, yes, close to lots of good hiking - just too expensive.
Thank you for voicing your opinion on our prices however, I must take this time to point out that this is Glamping versus camping / motel room. While with a motel room you can get all the amenities= Reality is you get the 3 B's = Bed, Bible and the Bill (sorta speak) with our river kamp you get soooo much more than that= First and foremost you are located on the the Shenandoah River , you can look right out every yurt window to watch the river flow by, many hiking trails in the G W National Forest ( less than 10 min) just 7 min from Luray Caverns, horseback riding within 12 min of kamp , even Anthony's Pizza will deliver, the yurts offer a unique cozy experience which is Glamping ( the crock pots in yurts make it nice to have dinner ready to eat when you return from hiking) The Hummingbird, Cherokee Rose or Painted Horse yurt offer "motel" amenities of small fridge, microwave, coffee pots, toaster, and waffle iron, propane gas grill with propane provided. in addition, within footsteps of all yurts is a nice, clean and well maintained bathouse. We have been open since 2013 and the majority of our guests honestly feel the value is here as I get many repeat guests. I am glad to hear you had a good time and enjoyed the scenic Shenandoah River. Just a foot note for future guests reading this ...We are also 20 min from entrance to Shenandoah National Park. We are open year round - with fall /winter Specials. Luray Caverns is open year round 365 days a year and they now have the Valley Museum- perfect on a rainy day. Yurts are heated as well as our bathouse!

Honeymoon and 1st anniversary
We had such a great time last year when we stayed for our honeymoon that we decided to go back and do it again for our anniversary! We stayed in the Hummingbird Yurt and loved the cozy feel and decorations. The veiw of the river is breathtaking. Bathhouse was 50 yards from the Yurt and always clean. Annette and her crew are awesome, and we look forward to many years camping in the round!
Always glad to hear when guests enjoy their stay ---it is quite a compliment when our guests return!.. Thank you
