Charming family cottage built by owners’ grandfather in 1959. The McGowan Cottage’s most spectacular feature is the wraparound porch - the perfect place to start and end your day. Choose a rocking chair to enjoy your morning coffee. As the day passes, boating creates an entirely different scene before your reward – brilliant sunsets over Banks Channel.
Ocean side beach is only a two-minute walk away over the dunes. During the day, if the ocean side seems a little crowded, you can always enjoy your own private beach on the sound.
Don’t forget the boat! The pier offers two boat slips and still provides ample opportunity to enjoy sound side activities. Fishing from the pier has always been a lucky spot. Enjoy your own fresh catch of the day - anything from flounder to croaker – and, most evenings, you will glimpse the Great Blue Heron who has also found the pier’s fishing to be among the best.
Cottage offers room for 8-9 to spread out in 4 bedrooms, over 1700 square feet. The eat-in kitchen is a wonderful place for family gatherings. The house is child friendly, but please, no pets. This is the cottage the owners have been coming to all their lives and we hope you will spend some time there as well. Stepping into the McGowan Cottage is like returning to a simpler, slower, more peaceful time. It’s everything the beach should be.
Please note we have a 2 night minimum stay. Must be 25 or older to rent home. Reservations made under false pretenses will be subject to cancellation/eviction with no refund given.

Another wonderful vacation week spent at your delightful cottage! The perfect escape from city life, strolling the beach, collecting shells, fishing from the pier and shopping at the various boutiques and souvenir spots. Thank you so much for sharing your summer home.
The McGowan Cottage was perfect for our extended family to gather and celebrate my daughter's graduation from UNCW. The home was clean and comfortable with rooms large enough to seat a crowd. We enjoyed the beautiful sunset views from the porch and the easy walk to the beach. We hope to return!
The Tarheels were playing basketball, Seahawk alumni swimmers were gathered and we had our three children together, which equaled to a great weekend at Wrightsville Beach. The cottage is clean, charming and filled with good memories of the owner's family history. The bedrooms are spacious and entertaining was easy with the flow of the house. We really enjoyed the use of the front porch and fished from the dock. The owners are great communicators and want their guests to love their stay. It was a perfect long weekend to launch the Spring season at the beach.
Love the charm in this beach cottage. There are not many houses left at Wrightsville that still have the true cottage feel. The house was very clean and had everything we needed. Couldn't have asked for anything more. The location is great! At the quite end if the island but just a short bike ride or walk from the shops and restaurants. We even ride our bike to the
We had the best time and what made it even more special was our stat at Montague cottage. The place was clean and tidy, plenty of space, beautiful sunsets...great kitchen. We loved it and it made our time with our son, who was graduating from UNC, very special.
Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!!
This cottage was exactly what we were looking for. We spent a family Thanksgiving long weekend there and everything the cottage offered and all the events we were able to participate in were just great. This is a family cottage. It is comfortable and well loved, and lived in, and well kept. There was not one thing I needed in the kitchen that a cabinet or drawer did not contain. It is exactly how it is advertised in the VRBO listing. The porches were delightful and we caught fish from the dock every day. The pictures of the interior are true to what you will find. The owners were very responsive with timely emails and flexible with our needs. Overall we had an excellent experience and we have booked again for next Thanksgiving.
We rented this property for a family wedding in Wilmington. During our stay we had a VERY bad ant infestation. Comments from a rating from Sept 2015 (just prior to our arrival) indicated that this renter had an ant problem during his visit. I contacted the owner prior to our arrival asking whether the ant problem was eradicated. She assured me that the exterminator had been to the property. We had ants crawling on the cabinets, under the toaster and on a bowl of fruit. These are tiny little ants and there were many, many of them. During our visit the owner offered to send the exterminator to assess the problem. An exterminator visit with 8 people during the morning of the wedding was not going to work for us.
The bottom line is that the ant problem in this house is serious. The owner commented to me that when she went to the property after our visit she did not see ants. We had ants and I have pictures documenting this. It is up to the owner to get this problem under control before he/she can rent this property in good conscious. The kitchen has a hefty supply of "staples" that other visitors have left. This contributes to overstocked cabinets--perhaps a total clean of these staples (i.e.:bait) might help eradicate the ant problem.
