About Michael Cunningham
My son has lived in Quepos for 12 years working his own and other boats as a sport fishing captain. Married to a Costa Rican they have two beautiful sons. I came to Quepos to be with my grandchildren 7 years ago. He named his oldest son Marlin after the biggest sport fish so we named the House after both the fish and the grandson. We are from the Tidewater area of Virginia. I am a Studio Potter working with porcelain for the past thirty years. My father lived on the beachfront at Virginia Beach and was an avid fisherman. We have decorated the house with some of his nautical antiques. My entire family was involved in gardening, landscape architecture and the nursery business. I am an avid gardener. It is my great joy to finally finish Casa Marlin so that I can create the tropical garden I have been imagining for the past five years.
Why Michael Cunningham chose El Cerro
We are located at the end of the road that has several other extremely successful rental houses. Our Unique location not only gives us an incredible beach, mountain, marina view it also has the advantage of being completely isolated from neighbors making your stay private and secure. There is virtually no road noise or through traffic. The most common sounds are that of the monkeys, parrots and frogs.

Awesome house with a view!
Awesome house! Had all the amenities we wanted. Clean. View was great! Had many visits from the monkeys. Particularly grateful for concierge who helped me out when I got sick for a couple of days.
Have only one complaint...
My husband and i travel to Quepos/Manuel Antonio at least twice a year and, depending on the size of our group, have stayed in numerous houses and condos in the area. Our only complaint about Casa Marlin was that our stay was too short!! Casa Marlin was the perfect blend of oceanview and jungle; as we spent most of our time outside we didn't have a chance to enjoy the large open dining room. With each bedroom having its own private balcony we could "escape" our group if need be! We also spent alot of time on the third floor hangout area-- what a great place to watch the colors change as the sun set! Tom and Kim, the property managers, were always available and Kim even checked in on one of the group when she wasn't feeling well.
Clean, comfortable, quiet, great location and secure property... Casa Marlin will now be at the top of my "where to stay' rental list! Already looking forward to next year!
Great Stay !
Great stay and great reception and guidance by Tom and Kimberly. Tom showed us all the things we could do during our stay and helped us reserve a few excursions . Take a guide if you visit parks and reserves in Costa Rica. They see everything and have the required lenses. The house was very comfortable with a very nice swimming pool that is essential in Costa Rica. It is hot ou there !!!!! We had all our meals outside by the pool, sometimes with monkeys, sometimes with toucans and also friendly little geicos at night. Costa Rica is all about nature. This is a country to walk and hike surrounded by trees, animals, birds, fog in the high mountains, beautiful beaches.
Stay here - we loved this house and location!
We had an excellent time staying at Casa Marlin! It is beautifully finished (looks even better than in the pictures) and has four bedrooms (two with kings, two with queens) with patios all facing the ocean, two bedrooms on each floor, and a top patio with views of the ocean and mountains. Every morning we enjoyed coffee and watched the beautiful nature around the house, including a troop of capuchin monkeys that would come and play in the pool every day. We had a rental car and it was an ideal location between Manuel Antonio beach/park and downtown Quepos, about a 5min drive to beach.
Kimberly was an excellent property manager, she is super friendly and if we had any issues or questions we could just text/call her and she would always respond immediately and take care of it. For example, we noticed a lot of ants in the house the first night we made dinner and she got an exterminator to come the next day while we were away, and we had no more ant issues for the remainder of the trip. There is also a maid who comes daily (or less if you prefer), so you can always come back from daytime adventures to a clean house. Stay here - Casa Marlin was truly the highlight of our trip.
Gorgeous home, fantastic location
The home was beautiful, just as it is in the pictures. Kitchen fully stocked and everything worked perfect. Pool was a delight and the view was just fantastic. We had monkeys come to visit every morning. Having stayed in that area before I know the roads to homes can be rough or out of the way. This was easy to get to in a great central location between Quepos and Manuel Antonio. Angie was extremely helpful and very pleasant and accommodating. Would recommend and will stay again for sure.
Casa Marlin - at home in Costa Rica
Staying at Casa Marlin made our visit to Costa Rica one that we will always treasure. The house is surrounded by the beautiful Costa Rican landscape and has a spectacular view of the ocean. Each bedroom is simple and yet elegant with a "rainforest shower" and a view of the ocean. The open concept of this home allows you to relax and enjoy your surrroundings. Daily visits from the wildlife in the area add to the charm of the house. Each day the home is cleaned and any need you may have are quickly attended to by the house manager. You will want to stay at Casa Marlin if you are coming to Costa Rica.
