Delightful Caribbean Escape

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I had stayed at the Turtle Beach Resort in October 2015 which is located next to the Casa Rubio at Orchid Beach. We decided to try Casa Rubio at Orchid Beach for this vacation and definitely made the right choice, and it should not be understated that Casa Rubio was a cheaper rate. Casa Rubio is 5 star compared to Turtle Beach. The home was clean, spacious, well appointed, and the direct ocean (Sunset) views were amazing. Staying at Casa Rubio allowed us to escape the constant and annoying construction noise ongoing at Turtle Beach which was annoying in October 2015 and remained ongoing for this trip. We felt so sorry for those folks as we enjoyed the tranquility at Casa Rubio. The beach was well groomed. Snorkeling off the pier was every bit as exciting as diving the reef as we saw stingrays, lobsters, lion fish, octopus, puffer fish, and various exotic species of fish. The location is great w/ a 5 min water taxi to either West Bay or West End, and of course the fact that Clearwater Adventures one of Roatan's best dive outfitters is located at Orchid Beach just steps from Casa Rubio is a wonderful resource. A 1 minute walk you can be in a dive boat and headed to the reef. Melissa the property owner made every provision for us. The folks she employed to facilitate our travel to and from the airport were wonderful people that we actually hired to give us additional island tours. Melissa provided a local cell phone for island communication which was very helpful. For those that have never been to Roatan this is not Las Vegas. This is a beautiful and tranquil jungle environment on a Caribbean beach, and with that comes mosquito's and sand fleas so come prepared with bug spray and/or tanning oil. Tanning oil works great for your tan as well as deterring bug bites. In our opinion Casa Rubio is a great option for your Roatan vacation, we very much enjoyed our stay, and will definitely be back. Thank you Melissa for sharing your beautiful home with us for one very short week.

Great property in a PERFECT location

  • 4 of 5

Casa Rubio is situated in an absolutely perfect spot for a perfect vacation. Very private but an easy walk to West End or West Bay. Or, if you like, a water taxi ride. Is also rigt off the same dock that Clearwater Adventures uses for their dives. Great spot for the divers. If you're not a diver, the snorkeling right off the beach is phenomenal. We saw puffer fish, barracuda, spiny lobsters and sea stars, to name a few. The reef is just s short kayak trip out as well.

The house itself is very spacious and open. Master bedroom faces the ocean with a door to the deck. Living room also looked out to the deck. House is well equipped dishes, pots and pans, toaster, blender, etc. Our meals were only breakfast and lunch at the house. Never did a dinner there, always went to West End for some great street food.

I did not give 5 stars for a couple reasons...refrigerator had issues with keeping cold. Told Melissa about this but a repairman was not able to be scheduled during our stay. Also, several light fixtures were not working or didn't have bulbs (master bath). Melissa informed us that the house was going to be going through some updating so I'm confident all these issues will be fixed. Do not let these issues sway you from not staying here. I am mentioning them so you are aware but this is a great property I would definitely stay at again.

The house came with a water chiller and was supplied with 5 gallon water jugs. We had purchased bottled water but used this to refill bottles and for cooking.

Enjoy Casa Rubio, my family definitely did!

Wonderful Experience

  • 5 of 5

We really like Casa Rubio. The view was awesome, the house was very nice, with all the amenities, even a good selection of DVDs. Melissa, the manager was prompt to respond with any requests and always answered her phone when we called.

Probably what we like most though, was the location in proximity to the Clearwater Divers dive shop. It was a one minute walk down the steps and we were on the dock. The entire experience was wonderful, and if you're looking for a diving vacation, the combination of Casa Rubio and Clearwater Diving cannot be beat.

Nice Location and View

  • 4 of 5

We (4 adults) enjoyed our stay at this property. Its location is between the nice resorts and West End. The manager was very responsive and neighbors next door at Turtle Beach were very nice. The house was a nice size and nice as as described. The only reason I didn't give it a 5 star review is the bedding didn't feel clean - the bed cover looked and felt like it needed washing or replaced. The kitchen could use some serving dishes for family dinners. I would recommend this to a friend.

Owner's Response: Thank you so much for your kind remarks. I'm glad that you enjoyed your stay. I can assure you that your bedding was freshly laundered before your arrival. I value your input, and I think your suggestion to update the bedspread is a good one. Nice bedding is always very important to me. Please return soon to see the improvements we have made. It was a pleasure to meet you.

Great rental on the beach

  • 5 of 5

So glad we chose this rental for our first trip to Roatan! This beach house is a bit hidden off the beaten path, but once you arrive, you'll find yourself in a small, quiet residential area. The house had everything we needed for our 10 day stay. Plenty of room, a/c worked well, kitchen well stocked, beds were comfy. Melissa was great to take care of any small issues we had, as well as answer our questions and give recommendations for restaurants and such. Juan Carlos, the gardener, was very sweet and helpful and brought us coconuts from his property. There were several shared kayaks for us to use-we did not end up using them, but a family staying at the house next door kayaked out to the reef several times to snorkel there. One of my favorite things about this house was the view. Great view from the master bedroom and living room. The deck was fabulous. Easy little walk down to the shared dock, where we spent much of our time swimming and snorkeling. We were amazed how good the snorkeling was right off the dock-which was great, as we were traveling with 3 kids (2 teens and a 6 year old). Denise, who runs a small dive shop next door, lent us a sea-life identifying guide to use when we snorkeled. Next time, we plan on taking a snorkeling trip with her on her boat. You are able to walk to West Bay Beach or West End via the beach, or take a water taxi. We rented a car, so we drove most of the time. We returned to Eldon's grocery in Coxen Hole several times, and always found everything we needed to cook at home. We zip-lined and took a tour of the beautiful grounds at Gumbalimba Park- which also has a great swimming pool-when we finished touring the park, we stayed and swam until they closed. We all snorkeled around Black Rock, at West Bay Beach, hung out all day at Bananarama explored/shopped in West End. The kids got awesome temporary henna-type tattoos from Foxy at her tattoo shop in town. Some restaurants we enjoyed were Splash Inn, Bananarama, Las Rocas, and Argentinian Grill. The teens found yummy empanadas at the gas station-we even had to make a stop on the way to the airport so they could buy some for the trip home. We will definitely return to this lovely house on our next trip to Roatan.

The only 2 negatives were the mosquitos and no-see-ums (which bite you through clothes & despite applying bug spray!), and the water pressure in the showers. The outdoor shower, which was great to have, only produced a trickle.

EPIC!

  • 5 of 5

EPIC! WOW! AWESOME! The house is situated in the best place on the island and we would return to turtle beach again and again. Melissa solved any tiny issues we had immediately and was such an angel during our stay. The house was perfect, comfy beds, internet, tv, enough space for our four adults and two kids and very very safe. Juan Carloz and his son who tend the gardens delivered us fresh coconuts. We befriended the guys who own the turtle beach property two doors away and they let us use their pool and we BBQd together and used their beautiful dock for fishing, hammocking, snorkling, hailing water taxis, etc. West End and West Bay are equidistance from the house and are 5 mins water taxi. West End has GREAT breakfasts at Escondido cafe and Tiki Bar. Roatan Divers run by Saaya and Carl take small groups and gave us an amazing deal. We saw everything and more, swam with turtles, eagle rays, squid, lobsters, eels...They even baby sat our kids so my husband and I could do night diving together! In West Bay we discovered LALA's cafe and gallery and Oliver's Hungry Monkey (they are behind Mayan hotel a block back from the beach)... defo worth visits. West Bay is magical on the days when there is no cruise ship. Also on the corner just before you hit West Bay is Las Rocas... nice lunch spot with an infinity salt pool. Easy to kayak to from the house. There is a boatman in West Bay called Daniel who took us on a great snorkling day trip where we saw the dolphins. Recommend Gumolinin Park for monkey heaven and also zip lining. My three and four year olds LOVED the zip lining and the guides are so much fun! We are returning next year with bells on! The only issue with Roatan is the bugs. So please please remember to apply baby oil and sunscreen as religiously as you brush your teeth and go to the bathroom and you'll be fine. It's a small price to pay for paradise every single day. Fifteen nights was perfect length of stay!!! THANK YOU!!!!!!!!! XXXXX
