About lance cutler

My wife and I have lived in Sonoma for more than 30 years. For most of that time I was a working winemaker and my wife ran a tasting room. We love cooking, eating, and the wine country lifestyle in general. Our home is renowned throughout the industry as a mecca for hospitality.

lance cutler purchased this cottage in 2001

Why lance cutler chose Sonoma County

We fell in love with Sonoma during a visit in 1976. By 1977 we had moved here and the next year I began a career in the wine business. After renting a small cottage for 23 years, my wife and I decided to build our own home. We built the main house and the rental unit in 2001. My wife has planted and maintains a stunning garden on the property. In short, this is a great spot in the heart of Sonoma Wine Country that we have built with our own hands.

What makes this cottage unique

First off the property sits in a real, rustic neighborhood. It's not screened off by metal fences and high walls. Just blocks from the Sonoma Mission Inn, several restaurants and five burrito wagons, you'll be centrally located to start your exploration of Wine Country.

Wonderful Place to stay and explore Wine country!!

  • 5 of 5

Lance & Sandy, thank you!! What a great place to use as our base to explore wine country. The cottage was super clean, very comfortable and nicely decorated. The kitchen area is very well equipped. Everything was there that we could have wanted. We loved the deck area in the beautiful garden setting. Very private and quiet. Thanks for the recommendations for wineries, restaurants and interesting things to see and do. All of your tips were right on! We could walk to some nice places to eat and cool shopping nearby. Downtown Sonoma was just a few minutes away in the car. We can't wait to get back. Say hi to Jake Lorenzo for us. Just finished his latest "Further Surveillance". He's a pretty funny writer.

Charming Wine Country Cottage is the perfect name for this place.

  • 5 of 5

My husband & I came in town for the Sonoma Indy Car race and to do a little wine tasting. And we are so glad we booked this place. I wish our weekend wasn't so busy, because I would have liked to have spent more time relaxing at this rental. Lance welcomed us and showed us around. He gave us his personal phone number in case we had any issues, which we didn't. And then he and his wife, Sandy, invited us to their porch for a glass of wine. Perfect end to our Sonoma trip. We will be back! Thanks for the great time! Ande & Sherri

Lovely stay in a garden environment

  • 5 of 5

Perfect location in a quiet neighborhood, about a 5 min drive to Sonoma square. Cottage has all the amenities and very comfortable. Air conditioning was an added plus ad it was very warm in Sonoma. Lovely garden setting and Lance was very helpful with restaurant and winery suggestion. If you enjoy hiking, Jack London State Park is a 10 min drive. We had a wonderful 3 nt stay!

Great place to get to know the best of Sonoma!

  • 5 of 5

Our stay at this cottage exceeded anything we could expect. The cottage was a perfect fit. It was in immaculate shape, clean, nicely decorated and had any thing you could possibly need to make you feel like you lived there. There is a small patio you can enjoy a bottle of wine or your morning coffee. The small patio overlooks the main house garden which is just beautiful and relaxing to look at.

We arrived late on a Thursday night and the owner Lance was ready to meet us, even invited us in for a glass of wine but we were starving so we quickly left our items and headed out to look for a place to grab a bite and brush off the exhaustion of traveling from the East Coast. We walked to the Fairmont Mission hotel which had a lovely bar that was still serving food and had some beautiful wines to start off our long weekend.

The location of the cottage is close enough drive to the main plaza of Sonoma but far enough to let you experience the local eateries that were outstanding. Must tries in the area are Creekside Cafe for breakfast. EXCELLENT French Toast and definitely splurge for the real maple syrup. El Molino, the best Mexican food I have ever tasted! The places in the plaza are nice but his is the place to go! All in walking distance from the cottage and recommended by Lance.

Lance and his lovely wife Sandy were exceptionally excellent hosts. We enjoyed seeing his wine making area and their hospitality. Make sure to read through the binder on the kitchen table. It had great recommendations and I love how colorfully they are written.

Thank you Lance and Sandy for making our experience in Sonoma a memorable one.
