My husband and I love the outdoors and built Covered Porches in 2004 with that in mind. Its porches and covered dock allow us to relax and enjoy being outside even when it rains. We have been responsive to the needs and wants of our guests and have made improvements, major and minor, each year. We hope you enjoy Covered Porches as much as we do. We manage our vacation home rental so providing excellent customer service is our top priority. If you need assistance with boat rentals, sightseeing excursions, or anything else, please ask.
Roslyn Foreman purchased this house in 2004
Covered Porches is located on the East side of the lake and we chose this area because of the privacy, large lot and beautiful sunset views. It's tucked in a cove great for swimming yet has a wide water view which opens up into the Roanoke channel. Directly across the lake is Bernard's Landing . The State Park is 2.5 miles from our home.
The porches are wonderful with their ceiling fans and comfortable chairs. The dock is covered so that when it rains or is too hot, we can still enjoy being outside. There are ceiling fans and comfortable chairs on the porches as well as the dock.
The fireplace off the Master bedroom is perfect for those cool evenings. A fire pit is available. 1/2 mile from our home is Parkway Marina where boat rentals are available. Smith Mountain Lake State Park is 2.5 miles from our home, great for hiking, playground for kids.
We had a truly wonderful week enjoying your beautiful lakefront house. Art and architecture made it a pleasure to be in, and my grandchildren were thrilled with their newfound independence, paddling the canoes from point to point.
We fished, swam, visited the dam and visitor center, the state park, but mostly stayed put on the dock and marveled at the perfect weather. The house is so comfortable and well appointed, with plenty of space to gather or have privacy. Grandchildren voted it the best vacation ever. After they all left on Friday, I had a day to relax, do some writing, and wind down before the trip home.
Thank you for making your home available to us.
We booked a last minute reservation due to Hurricane Matthew, but it turned out to be a great change of plans! The owner was very accommodating and had the house cleaned and ready for us very quickly. The house worked out great for our family of eight adults and three children. The big table and open living room were great for family meals and games. We loved the beautiful sunset views over the lake each night. The fire pit was a big hit and we all (kids and adults) enjoyed making s'mores in the cool evenings. During the day it was still warm enough to play on the beach, take out the house canoes, and gather on the dock. The house was a five minute drive from the State park so we took the kids to the playground and all went hiking. We may have found a new destination for our family each fall at Smith Mountain Lake.
This was our first time ever renting a house. I can't say enough good things about how nice it was and how well stocked it was . Friends who joined us have rented other houses at the lake for the last 15 years commented on this as well. It's a beautiful lake and a great place for a family vacation . My kids are 21 and 24 and they had fun like they were teens again . We rented a Pontoon boat for the weekend from Parkway Marina ( thank you Roslyn for the recommendation ) and it was brand new . We never felt the need to go out at night . We hung on the dock which was great. Having the kayaks and all the floats were awesome. We really enjoy bonfires so we were happy it was cool enough to sit by that . The property sits on the lot and creates privacy and one side is just trees. The sunsets were the best thing and each night we were lucky enough to enjoy them all 4 nights . Nothing makes me happier then seeing my family happy and my husband and kids thanked me for planning this trip and said they have to come back. Making memories is so important to me and it was so easy to do it there . We took so many pictures ! Thank you for everything. Missing the lake already !
Once again we had an amazing time with our family. We suggested going somewhere different next year but we were shouted down. It turns out the grandchildren start asking just after Christmas, when is SML! The house is so well maintained and well appointed that you need only to bring your food.
Unfortunately, we have outgrown the house but as fortune would have it, we are moving next door so we still have our amazing cove and freedom for the grands to play as only summer freedom should be!!
For once the photos on the web site were a true reflection of what we got. Covered Porches was a very comfortable, clean and well appointed home away from home situated in a small, quiet cove with a great view across Smith Mountain Lake. The layout of the house is such that you can get away from each other for awhile or gather as a group for a meal, watch a movie or play a game. In addition to canoes and a kayak, there was an abundance of water toys for the grandkids. Having the small sand beach was great for the little kids.
I would recommend renting a boat at one of the several marinas to explore the lake.
I can understand why the owners, who were very responsive and easy to deal with, are proud of their property.
I'm sure we will be back.
We just sadly finished our second week long stay at Covered Porches and this stay was even better than the first one. The house is very well maintained and clean. The kitchen is also well equipped. The two living levels make it super convenient for families with kids or teens to have their own space. The pier has plenty of folding chairs for everyone as well as floats, pumps and life vests. The small fridge in the boat house was very nice to be able to store water and save trips back to the house during the day. Our family and a wonderful time again this year and I'm sure we'll be back again next!
