I grew up in the hospitality business, with my parents running hotels and/or restaurants. Since 2005 I have been actively offering short stay apartment rentals in Amsterdam. In 2008 I purchased the Sonnenberg and have been managing the property ever since. I love to share my experience of the wonderful city of Amsterdam. In my opinion the best way to see the city is with friends on an open canal boat on a nice day or evening.
Wytse purchased this Apartment in 2007
Why Wytse chose Amsterdam-Centrum
I live in this property myself, or at least on the ground floor, the top house is all Authentic Jordaan. The awesome thing about the area is that it still has the unique charm of a small time neighborhood, and everybody knows each other.

We loved everything about this property and it’s management:
The apartment is perfectly appointed, exquisitely maintained, with courteous and attentive ownership and ideally located to everything within Amsterdam and steps away from the central train station.
In the heart of Amsterdam
My husband and I stayed with a friend of mine for a combination business/vacation trip and the place was perfect. You can walk to everything in the city while staying in a quiet beautiful neighborhood. Wytse couldn’t have been more helpful without being intrusive. Groceries, restaurants, transportation are all only a block or two away. There is a great farmer’s market nearby that was fun to walk to. The place is well equipped and comfortable, while still reminding you that it is old and authentic. And the lighting throughout the place was great - lots of windows everywhere allowed for lots of light and fresh air to brighten up the place. Okay, the stairs took some getting used to but turned out to be part of the place’s charm. We were all sad to leave and will definitely be back.
WONDERFUL HOME IN THE JORDAAN NEIGHBORHOOD!
This traditional Dutch urban dwelling is beautifully restored and easily accommodated our 3 adults. Although we only prepared breakfast, the kitchen was nicely equipped for those who would want to prepare their own meals. It was a joy to have a washer/dryer after having traveled for a week before our arrival in Amsterdam. Our host, Wytse, was easy to reach and we enjoyed dining in some of his recommended eateries. The Jordaan neighborhood is an excellent home away from home, close enough to Central Station for day trips but away from the hectic city center. We would definitely book again and recommend to our friends and family.
Location! Location! Location!
Authentic charming! Check in process was easy and informative. Would highly recommend this beautiful property!
We very much enjoyed our stay. The location was great and the house was comfortable. Wytse was very helpful. We would stay here again.
Open, spacious, central with mod cons
This charming home on 2 levels is spacious, bright and inviting. At the end of a long day of sightseeing, it was good to come 'home' and relax in our living room which is open to the kitchen/dining area. The two bedrooms upstairs have big windows with black out curtains. We slept very well. The bathrooms are clean and modern.
The neighbourhood is ideal. Shops are 1 minute away for everything you need such as authentic, butter croissants to pick up and take back home for breakfast. The shops are a stone's throw away on a main street and yet the home is on a quiet side street. It is also just a 10 minute walk from the train/tram station to anywhere in the city you want to go. On your way home at night, you can stop in at shops where you can buy dishes of delicious food to take home for dinner including nutritious made on the spot smoothies for breakfast!
We had a wonderful time in Amsterdam and staying at Authentic Jordaan made it that much more enjoyable.
Within 400 meters of the apartment you can find many shops and restaurants. The shops are all of a boutique type, so no usual suspects in this area. The restaurants vary from good value student restaurants to top of the bill, and from Tibetan cuisine to soul food, from breakfast to deli take outs.
For children and adults of all ages there are two playgrounds in the direct area, with climbing racks, swings, sandboxes, football pitch and basketball court. Must see Museums within about 15-20 minutes walking/tram include; Anne Frank house, Rijksmuseum, Stedelijk Museum, Van Gogh Museum, Amsterdam Historical Museum and Canal House Museum. But there are at least 30 or 40 other museums nearby that are also worth visiting.
Without writing down an entire guide to the city of Amsterdam, this location will give you an excellent base to discover the many aspects of this world famous cosmopolitan city.
