Sakara Gion is a Kyoto 'machiya' townhouse with the styling and amenities you expect, on the outskirts of the bustling Gion district. The location is exceptional; walking distance from the famous Gion district on a peaceful street, 1 minute from City bus and ~5 minutes from the subway. It's our best holiday rental yet, incorporating everything travelers tell us they want. There are two rooms and a bathroom on the second floor with designer western-style bedding as well as a tatami room on the first floor with futon sets. In addition there is a traditional courtyard garden, spacious granite bath, open kitchen, Wifi, digital TV, and easy access to local restaurants. There is even a public bathhouse and sake shop across the street. In keeping with our theme, we offer 'Japanese style with western comfort' -- the doors are tall, living areas spacious, art and furnishings top-class.
The Higashiyama area is nationally famous for a good reason - the real Kyoto is jumping out from around every corner. Rickshaws go past the front door, Kimono clad entertainers come and go from the Gion district, and it's beautiful year round. There is a public bathhouse just across the street and within five minutes you can be on Shijo Street in the epicenter of the action! Festival season is especially vibrant in this neighborhood.
As a family of four with two children we needed a place functional and comfortable at the same time. At Sakara Gion Machiya we found much mora than, in a beautiful two storey house perfectly decorated and with all the facilities a family can need. We had a great time breathing the real Japanes feeling of the house and enjoying its perfect location, in the center of the fascinating neighborood of Gion and at a walking distance to the most interesting sites in Kyoto. The owners were helpful and kind all the times we needed support. I would definitelya recommend this house in Kyoto!
The Sakara Gion is an ideal setup for a family looking to visit Kyoto. The house offers an authentic Japanese feeling with Western style of living comfort such as real beds. Being able to est out or cook and stay indoors is ideal for a family.
Una preciosa habitación, muy bien decorada y pensada. Ideal para familia con dos niños. Bien situada y muy conectada con bus y metro, que está a un minuto. Próxima al tradicional barrio de Gion. Muy recomendable con una excelente relación calidad-precio.
This was our second stay at a Sakara townhouse -- we also stayed previously at the Sakara White Crane home. We very much enjoyed both experiences. The houses are in a great location for site seeing and are perfect for groups and kids. The manager and staff were very helpful and accommodating both times. I recommend these properties to my friends all of the time. We have two small children, so we very much like staying in places where we can put them to sleep in a separate room and then hang out for a while in a separate room. At a hotel in Kyoto, a suite that would offer the same convenience would be crazy expensive. This is why we prefer to stay in houses like this. It feels more like an authentic Kyoto experience as well. The beds are very comfortable too. Everything was clean, nice and well-stocked.
We had a fantastic time at Sakara-Gion. We were a group of 4 adults, a baby and a toddler and it worked perfectly! We loved having the extra space, access to a washing machine, and made use of the liquor store across the road and also the close by convenience stores and restaurants. Our taxi driver found the pace easily and the owners also kindly ordered us taxi's the day we left (we were on a 6:30am train so it was a very early start!). The only down side to our stay was that we weren't there for longer!
Due to our latest Kyoto trip being a family affair, we had the opportunity to stay at three of the Sakara properties. Each has their own unique styles, but all were top notch in terms of materials, amenities, comfort and attentive landlords. Kyoto is a very special city that still has many of the old wooden style homes, and Sakara's properties really do give the chance to experience this special side of living in the city in the "old style". The properties we enjoyed had somewhat different styles, so if you are particular about anything, the Sakara staff are very attentive. Staying here really made the holiday even more special and we definitely plan to return.
Lastly, the Sakara staff really went the extra mile for us. We ended up leaving a wedding ring in the taxi that took us to the airport. Sakara staff helped track it down (in 20 min!), get it collected and shipped it back to our home address safely. Happy conclusion to a otherwise stressful situation.
