Cozy cottage in an ideal location for skiing at Mountain Creek. Downtown Vernon is just five minutes away. Rustic and not too fancy, it's perfect for families. The cottage contains all the comforts of home. Mike was a great host. Very attentive and quick to respond to our questions or requests.
The cottage is nice and in a pleasant location, a little dated. The TV and gaming setup is nice. Too many nit picking incidents marred the stay: 20 page list of rules that put you on edge, heat is controlled remotely and kept low (66 overnight is way too cold for an old, drafty home), nickel and diming with coin laundry, charged for an open window (even though it was in the teens and we never opened a window), accused by the property manager, Polly, of creating a fire hazard with incense when the powder was from our baby...ridiculous stuff. The heat went out on our last night at about 1am and went to 50 with our infant child exposed. We left early as it was way too cold then were refused any compensation for the extreme inconvenience. What should have been a pleasant stay was just too stressful with all the nit picking, boarding school rules and false accusations.
We had a couples weekend getaway to Mountain Creek. We originally booked the rental with Mike in November for a December getaway. All details were finalized and payment was made for the house. Thankfully Mike reached out to me and told me Mountain Creek would not be open for skiing or snowboarding that weekend. If it wasn't for Mike being so concerned and accommodating we would have ended up at Mountain Creek with nothing to do. Before arriving, Mike reached out to us and gave us all the details we needed when we arrived. While at his house, he checked in to make sure everything was fine. We had a fantastic weekend getaway and Mike's home was the perfect place for us to have a cozy time. Our only downside to the trip was we didn't have enough time to start a fire in the fire pit. Next trip down to that area we are 100% going to book with Mike again. This time we will burn a fire :) Thank you for opening your home to us!!! It doesn't get better than booking with Mike!
We thoroughly enjoyed our time at Highland Lakes Cottage. Our family traveled to NJ for a wedding and felt it would be nicer to stay in a home rather than a hotel. We were happy to find this house. The beds were comfy, the kitchen was well-equipped, the sun porch was inviting, and the back yard was great! We enjoyed relaxing around an outdoor fire and just running around with our granddaughter in the yard. The home has a funky, kitschy feel and could use some painting, but for the price was a bargain. It was a short walk to two beautiful lakes and a quaint country store. The owner and the property manager were both very responsive. We would return to Highland Lakes Cottage in a heartbeat!
A great cottage in a beautiful private lake community in the mountains of northwest New Jersey. We stayed here for a week over the Labor Day weekend and there are plenty of enjoyable and relaxing things to do. Highland Lakes is a special place where gasoline powered boats are not permitted on the lakes. Polly, the local property manager, has kayaks, a canoe, and a rowboat that you can rent from her to enjoy the tranquility of the main lake. There’s a boat dock to launch your boat from just a few blocks away. A small lake a couple of blocks in the opposite direction has a grassy area for relaxing or having a picnic, playground equipment and the best beach for swimming. Beaches #3 and #4 on the east side of the main lake offer beautiful views of sunsets across the water. The Mountain Creek Water Park adjacent to the ski slopes down the mountain in Vernon is a big attraction for young families and teens. It’s a short drive down Breakneck Road (It’s not that bad). There are many places to visit in the area for folks of any age that enjoy the outdoors. Nearby Wawayanda State Park has many hiking trails including a section of the Appalachian Trail. There’s also High Point State Park and the Wallkill River National Wildlife Refuge. If you’re not into hiking, swimming or boating take a short drive to the historic Ringwood Manor and the New Jersey Botanical Gardens in Ringwood, NJ. Nearby Warwick, NY has many beautiful historic homes and the Warwick Drive-In, one of the few remaining drive-in theaters in America. There are also many restaurants, wineries and golf courses close by. Michael, the owner, was very professional responding promptly to inquires and handling rental documents over the internet.
It was one experience that is yet to be beaten. The place is homey and cozy. It has everything we needed that made our stay comfortable despite the very cold weather outside. The owner and property manager were awesome. They were easy to communicate with. It was 10min ride (or less) away from Mountain Creek. We'll definitely be back.
