About Jennifer Barbarie
I am a retired Canadian diplomat who fell in love with Anghiari sixteen years ago. I bought my apartment in 1997 and over the years have taken great pleasure in restoring it.
Jennifer Barbarie purchased this Apartment in 1997
Why Jennifer Barbarie chose Anghiari
Being in the heart of this marvelous town, off the beaten tourist track but with Florence, Assissi, Cortona, Arezzo and the many surrounding hill towns so easily accessible, is a great joy. Art lovers can easily follow the Piero della Francesca trail, starting in the Civic Museum of Sansepolcro, less than a 15 minute drive away. Over the years so many guests have commented on the friendliness of the locals.
What makes this Apartment unique
Strolling the cobbled lanes, slanted piazzas, arched passages and around the neighbourly villas, palazzos and tiny churches – some originally Etruscan temples – which have jostled for space on this charming hilltop for at least a millenia, you find within a refflective, warming perspective on life, a leisurely pace, a sense of easy well-being. Va bene, as the locals say. Goes well. The air is sweet with lavender and banks of flowers cascading from parapets, hanging pots and secret, sloping gardens. The heat is dry and comforting. In the the late afternoon the famously golden light gilds the faces of friends and the thousand year-old bricks of the surrounding wall. The hillside is brilliant with fields of sunflowers, glistening corn and silvery groves of olive. The Tiber meanders through the plain below and cyprus trees stand watch on the ridges. The local cuisine is to die for. When ordering fungi, the savory, crisp roasted delicacy that makes a masterpiece of mushrooms, be sure to order at least two plates or be prepared to fight with your friends. Make it up to them by taking them for lunch to the Osterria at Tavernelle. The fresh ravioli – silky and pliant – are the best in the world. On market day, pop a local, baby tomato in your mouth, but be prepared to stop in your tracks while taste buds adjust to the sheer vitality of their exploding, crimson flavours.

Perfect apartment to enjoy Anghiari. Absolutely gorgeous!
We spent seven nights in this wonderful, spacious and elegantly restored and decorated apartment right in the heart of the ancient hill town, Anghiari. The location was perfect -- right on the long straight Roman road that runs through town, and steps from Anghiari's central square. The apartment itself is beautiful. Jennifer has maintained the historic feel of the apartment, complete with original frescos high up on the walls, but has updated it with fantastic art, luxurious and comfortable furnishings, and a well-equipped kitchen. I loved the bedroom set off by a brick archway and floor-to-ceiling draperies. Everything you need for a stay in this part of Tuscany is at your fingertips.
Awesome experience
The most amazing place to stay , the beds were comfy, a very well equipped kitchen for cooking .Giuseppe the building manager was a great source of info, and a real character , the information in the appartment was up to date and very useful for exploring the town and area , parking was close , the people were friendly and the food at the local restaurants was delicious. We all hope to go back again ! Thank you Jenni ! Marie, Christy,Cheryl, and Pat
Lovely apartment, great small town location
We really enjoyed our two week stay. The apartment is very warm and comfortable and Anghiari is welcoming, combining the best of a small town with good restaurants, interesting history and a great location. You can explore this beautiful area via train from nearby Arezzo, rent a car in Arezzo and drive or as we did do both. We took the train from Rome, used our rental car to explore areas not serviced by train, and used the train to visit Florence. We found Anghiari’s location made it possible to comfortably do day trips to fascinating locations in both Tuscany and Umbria. Giuseppe met us at the apartment, gave great advice and was very responsive to any questions or concerns we had.
Bella Tuscany!
I've heard about this town and this property for years and was thrilled to finally have an opportunity to see what all the fuss was about. Anghiari has to be one of the prettiest towns in Italy, with superb restaurants and cafes, the friendliest people, and amazing views out over the Tiber Valley. I loved going on day trips to Florence, Perugia, Cortona, Arezzo and many charming hill towns nearby. I loved the apartment. It is very comfortable, beautifully restored and decorated, and completely equipped. I couldn't rate it more highly.
Wonderful experience
We spent 6 days in this lovely apartment full of both history and comfort. What an unusual apartment, beautifully decorated, with modern conveniences and full of light. When we stepped out the front door and looked down to the left we could see the road, built by the Romans, for miles down, into and across the valley. The town square was just a few yards away with several restaurants and shops. Unbelievable to think that these building were built so long ago and are still in use today. It was the experience of a lifetime and we would highly recommend it to anyone.
Cozy, well equipped, home away from home.
This lovely apartment was the perfect "home base" for four women to enjoy travel in the Tuscan countryside. The apartment was clean, kitchen well equipped, looked just like the pictures. Local grocery stores and restaurants provided us with all our eating/cooking needs. Jennifer provided information and answered questions prior to our travel and Guiseppe was there to help when we arrived and during our stay. Anghiari is a lovely medieval village that you will want to visit a second time.
