Location, Amenities ... All that you may need

This property is really beautiful and perfectly located. Just close enough to everything but quiet enough to feel like you are away from the crowds when you need it. The property manager is wonderful, lives across the street and will do anything for you. The only reason that I did not rate a full 5 stars is the bedroom/bath setup. I just read through the online description again and I still feel it is a little misleading.

We rented the first floor property # 348055, which includes 3 ‘bedrooms’ and 2 full baths. Since this is the first floor of a large home, there are no real ‘bedrooms’. The ‘master’ has a king bed and is separated from the living room by enormous pocket doors. There is no ensuite. The second bedroom is accessed either through the master or from the kitchen. It has a pullout sofa. The third is a small room in back accessed via ‘bedroom 2’ with bunk beds and you reach the bathroom via that room. So, the only room with a bath connected is the bunk room.

The other of the two baths is actually in the main hall of the house, so you leave the dining room through a door into the hall and then enter the bath. It is recently done in a very nice, modern look but it is a bit of a walk from any bedroom. Also, there is a closet in the master but no others. We shared it out with the ‘den’ occupant and the bunk room made due by moving some stuff around.

So .. This worked for four of us because we have known each other forever and we travel well together. But I should point out that you are definitely in each other’s space a lot. Also, there were only four of us. The description says it could sleep eight which would be two in each room plus I don’t know what. There was a foldaway cot in our closet but I can’t imagine it sleeping two and I don’t know where you would put it.

If you look at the ‘Amenities’ section under property # 348055 it mentions 3 bathrooms and 4 bedrooms which I assume is where the ‘sleeps 8’ comes from. But the carriage house is included in that description which in my opinion adds confusion. The carriage house is an additional charge so your price point is very different. I’m not going to discuss price because everyone has a different way of assessing value, but I do think that the description could use some work on clarification.

Still … A beautiful property in what we felt was a perfect location.

Owner's Response: Our home is described perfectly as it is a very grand and large 200 year home On the best street in the French Quarter Royal Street. There are no ensuite in the baths off of the bedrooms as it is a antebellum masterpiece original home with everything up to date. In fact, the new Master Bath off the Hall will be in Architectural Digest this coming Fall. The 4th bedroom is in the carriage house and rents as a stand alone if desired with a full extra bath and in mint condition. Closets were not made 200 years ago so we have treasured Armoire's in the house to take their place. Please read the other 60 or more 5 STAR reviews . We remain a true French Quarter experience for the chosen few who understand our history of Historic Preservation in the French Quarter

Not great

Great location but not as updated as I would've liked for the price. Caretaker was somewhat rude and not accommodating. We won't be coming back to this house

Owner's Response: The Friday night prior to Ms. White’s family wedding I received noise complaints from the neighbors. It was for loud music and yelling in the courtyard where Ms. White was the registered guest. I had informed the groom and his fiancé that there was NO outdoor amplified music allowed. Yet they still played music over a speaker system they brought with them on Ms. White’s rear porch in the courtyard. I requested it be turned off and asked that they move their gathering to the front gallery so as not to further disturb the neighbors in the courtyard next door. Saturday night after the wedding from 11:30PM until 1:35 AM I received numerous calls from the neighbors regarding the loud music and voices. The music was much louder and the singing was loud karaoke. I live across the street and I could hear the music and voices clearly. The 1st and 2nd time I spoke directly with Mr. Kinchen, the groom, Ms. White was present, and informed them that the music had to be moved indoors and the voices lowered. The 3rd time it was so loud and obnoxious that I had to yell to be heard over the sound. Upon asking for Ms. White, as she was not present, I was told no one was there with that name. Ms. White’s guests were all disrespectful and inappropriate. The entire group was told that if they did not cease immediately and go indoors that I would be compelled to request they leave the home immediately and or call the police. Not only did I have to raise my voice but the majority of the guest and host were unable to comprehend what I was saying initially. I had to repeat myself numerous times so loudly that the closest neighbor said they could hear me trying to speak over the noise. So, I am quite certain Ms. White and her fellow guests were none too pleased in my response to the many complaints made about them. If I offended or appeared rude then let’s just say that was “required” to get their attention to cease and desist their behavior. Ms. White and the other parties associated with this event are not welcome at the McRaney Mansion under any circumstances ever again. In reading our previous reviews it is obvious this is a 5 star home offering 5 star services with an accredited “Super Host” on another platform…. and yes, we operate on a higher standard and hold our guest accountable and expect the same of them. Respectfully, Ina Magee Caretaker

amazing location, wonderful rooms, and friendly hosts

  • 5 of 5

Samantha's place on Royal street is not only historical, but also kept up to date with wonderful facilities. As a first timer at New Orleans, I was fortunate enough to line up this location for my family. It's location is walking distances to all the fun, while quiet in the evening.

Samantha and Ina (the house manager) were super friendly, and they made us feel at home. They were ready to assist for any questions or inquiries, and they provided us with wonderful guidance on local must-sees and must-eats. They also connected us with Randall, who drove us to/from the airport. Randall is awesome, and he really knows New Orleans!

This is a wonderful place, and we are looking forward to coming back!

Perfect Property, Perfect location.

  • 5 of 5

As an employee of HomeAway I travel frequently and have stayed in dozens of properties across the United States, this 5-Star property on Royal Street is by far the most alluring property I have stayed in. From the freshly polished silver to the beautifully manicured French courtyard every spot of this property was absolutely stunning.

The booking process itself was made very simple by the owner of the property, once we arrived the house manager (Who lives nearby) was extremely helpful guiding us to parking, answering any questions we had about the property and area, and was willing to help us with any problems we encountered during our stay, she made our time at the property truly one of a kind.

Once settled in, just exploring the property was like going back in time. The beautiful piano, elaborate furniture and decorations, this property is a true reflection of old time French Quarter aristocracy. Very clean, very well maintained.

The large French courtyard was in full bloom and really complimented the property well, there were plenty of chairs for company and a great back drop for small events. This property is located right on Royal St, 1 block from the Bourbon St. and within walking distance to all activities and restaurants in the French Quarter. It was an amazing experience relaxing in the formal living room listening to the foot traffic of the locals on Royal St. The property comes with a very large marble antique bar complete with ice maker, bar stools, bar accessories like shaker cups, coasters etc. Great conversation piece and area to have a drink in.

Beautiful kitchen, lots of room, large island, large refrigerator. Great covered back porch area with rockers and couches that lead to the courtyard.

The pictures really do not do justice for this property; it is something you must see in person to really get the full experience. I would recommend this property to any family or friend planning to travel to New Orleans, my expectations were blown away

Thanks for sharing your home with my family, we had a great time!

Picture Perfect Setting!

  • 5 of 5

This house was a picture perfect setting for our wedding! We rented the entire property (all 3 rentals) for our wedding weekend, and we, our family, and our friends had an incredible time. The picturesque courtyard, the beautiful decor, the amazing location—all make this home second to none. The house manager, Ina, was kind, responsive, and amazingly helpful, too.

The convenience of venturing out to explore the city on foot, watching the horse-drawn carriages clip-clop past the front windows, savoring an evening cocktail in the shaded courtyard—it's a true New Orleans experience that we'll never forget and hope to visit again. We visit New Orleans often, but have never had an experience quite like this. Truly special.
