Home away from home

  • 5 of 5

This is the second time we have rented the property and once again it has been great. The location is perfect for people who love public transit with the Runnymeade subway stop just a few blocks away. As runners we loved the fact we could get to High Park in short order. We definitely will be back. Our only suggestion is to have blinds in the kitchen to block out the early morning sun along with heavier curtains in the bedrooms.

Great value, beautiful accomodations

  • 4 of 5

The suite was exactly as pictured and described. The beds were excellent, appliances new and luxurious, the apartment perfectly clean, and the neighborhood quiet and attractive. There were very clear instructions for everything in the suite and a great map of the neighborhood. We needed to do laundry and that was easy and convenient. It was a short walk to the subway and to beautiful High Park. We appreciated the way our host met us at the beginning of the stay but then did not intrude in any way. We were very comfortable and would seek out this property on a return to Toronto. Here are some very minor issues that may be important to others who might be affected more than we were: There was some confusion about which parking space to use (upper suite had taken the one assigned to lower suite). Upper suite was occupied by long-term renters, a family with small children, so there were a couple evenings when there were lots of footsteps and once some crying overhead at a time when we wanted to relax, watch television, etc. No problem at all during sleeping hours and we were mostly out of the suite during daylight, so this affected us very little. Using the television, Netflix was supposed to be available but it called for a log-in. We're sure our host would have fixed this immediately, but we were not interested enough to pursue it. Host asks that A/C not be set below 77 degrees, a bit warm for our taste, and it doesn't really reach the back bedroom, though it definitely dehumidifies the entire apartment. The weather during our stay was such that we could open windows and A/C did not really matter much and we slept comfortably every night. The shower is pretty small and might give a person with limited mobility some difficulty. Again, all of the above issues were tiny and we would definitely recommend this property to others.

Owner's Response: Thanks for your input Steve. Not unlike a hotel, sometimes neighbours are a bit noisy. We try to be family friendly, and this family returned home after their renovations completed at the end of the month. We have been successful in our soundprrofing but heavy footsteps sometimes get through. There was a bit of musical parking spaces during your stay but fortunately, we have not had anyone stuck without parking. We would have liked to have known about the Netflix login as we had to reset it with the following guests as is necessary with from time to time with these types of services. As always, we try to be just a phonecall away. Hope to have you back soon!

Excellent accommodation and location a real gem.

  • 5 of 5

Excellent accommodation in every way. This property was a real gem and we will certainly return and thoroughly recommend to others. Very high standard of property with everything needed for short or long term let. Owners so helpful and nothing was too much trouble to make our stay perfect. Bloor West village is great. Restaurants shopping and subway 10 minutes walk away and only 15 minutes walk to beautiful high park and 30 minutes walk to the beaches on Lake ontario. Our week at 40 Durie street exceeded all expectation. Anne and Geoff May 2016

Clean and Comfortable

  • 4 of 5

We brought our grandson to Toronto with us to visit my son and daughter-in-law, who live near the west end of Queen Street. This two bedroom apartment was close to them, near Etobicoke, and was pristine. Everything here is brand new and in great repair. Towels and linens fresh and new, beds very comfy. Included parking space was a big plus. Coffee, sugar, powdered creamer and a few teabags were available for that first morning's refreshment. All the basics for cooking were provided. Laundry was down a few stairs; though we didn't need it during our four night stay it was nice to know it was there. Would have extended our stay an additional night, but there was a booking right after us. Best instruction manual we have ever seen (and we use Homeaway at least 10/15 times a year) with pictures and wonderful explanations of all of the appliances, internet, TV remotes, recycling, etc. Met Michel briefly and he was friendly and informative.

When I book a place I'm always hoping that it's clean, comfortable, safe and there are no unpleasant surprises. This property met all those requirements and more. Do not hesitate to book this apartment! I would recommend it to friends and family. Thanks for a good stay!

Everything you could ask for away from home.

  • 5 of 5

My daughter lives in Toronto and stayed with me for a couple of nights, she thinks its the best place I've ever rented in Toronto. She's right, it's spacious, clean, modern and a great location. There isn't a thing to complain about. Planning on returning in June and perhaps more often in the years to come.

The dynamic and exciting city of Toronto is a major urban gateway on Lake Ontario. It is home to tourist attractions such as the CN Tower, Royal Ontario Museum, the Art Gallery of Ontario and major theatre productions. Still there are many quiet, natural places to enjoy along the waterfront.

---------------------------

Walking »

Walk just 5-10 minutes to Bloor West Village, High Park or Public Transit. The TTC is the quick, convenient and safe way to get around Toronto and beyond. The subway system is linked with buses and streetcars to get you to all the great attractions in the city or connect to GO Transit and spend a day in Niagara Falls!

---------------------------

Biking »

Bike rentals are available nearby for you to cruise around the great attractions and adventures which begin at right at your doorstep.

---------------------------

Bloor West Village »

A great place to hang out, shop or just buy your favorite European breakfast. However, it is not an area where you will find a lot of top fancy/schmancy brand name products, but it will impress you and your friends with its everyday lifestyle, including mild nightlife and a great array of multi-cultural bars and restaurants.

---------------------------

High Park »

Toronto's largest public park features many hiking trails, sports facilities, diverse vegetation, a beautiful lakefront, convenient parking, easy public transit access, a dog park, a zoo, playgrounds for children, a couple of eateries, greenhouses, picnic areas, a bunch of squirrels and various events throughout the year.

---------------------------

See Beautiful Gardens & Nature »

From wild forests to the Chinese gardens and the famous Japanese cherry trees High Park has a truly genuine and beautiful vegetation - well taken care of by the city.

---------------------------

Experience the Waterfront »

A walk along the Grenadier Pond on the west side of High Park will make you forget you are in the largest city in Canada. You will find ducks, geese and hiking trails down to the Lakefront.

---------------------------

The Park's Off-leash Dog Park »

The park has a designated off-leash area for dogs and several paths where dogs are allowed to run free. While the dog park is not completely fenced in it is surrounded by natural borders such as thick bushes and trees.

---------------------------

Check out the Zoo »

The mini-zoo at High Park has lamas, buffaloes, bison, deer, peacocks and a few other animals including cats and pigeons : ) The zoo is open from 7am until dusk. Free admission.

---------------------------

Outdoor Sports Facilities»

A great swimming pool and water slide, tennis courts, baseball diamonds and soccer fields are all present inside the park but many other sports can be played on the large grassy fields.

---------------------------

Kid's Adventure Park »

The Jamie Bell Adventure Playground is a large, unique play area designed in part by children. Make sure to include a visit to this adventure park this summer with your kids!

---------------------------

Winter Activities »

In the winter, an artificial ice rink is operated to the north of the Pool for skating and ice hockey. The hiking paths are maintained for cross-country skiing and snowshoeing. Tobogganing is terrific family fun for people of all ages. The hills are at Howard Park Avenue and Parkside Drive.

---------------------------

Shakespeare in the Park »

During the summer, the Canadian Stage Company puts on a selected Shakespearean play in the park's amphitheatre in an annual event called 'Dream in High Park', popular with Torontonians. The 2012 play is A Midsummer Night's Dream. The amphitheatre is on the hill side directly to the east of the Grenadier Cafe.

---------------------------

High Park meets the Martin Goodman Trail and The amazing Toronto Waterfront »

Toronto's waterfront - one of North America's largest recreational waterfronts - provides a scenic backdrop for many popular and entertaining attractions including Harbourfront, (the site of art galleries, theatres, craft boutiques restaurants) Rogers Centre (Famous for its retractable roof, sport and concert events), the CN Tower (Recently nominated one of the Seven Wonders of the Modern World), and the Toronto Islands (a 10-minute ferry ride to 'cottage country'). It's also the setting of many big events including the Scotiabank Nuit Blanche, the Toronto International Film Festival, the Canadian National Exhibition, Caribbean Carnival and Winterlicious.

---------------------------

Museums and Galleries»

Downtown Toronto offers museums and art galleries galore including The Royal Ontario Museum (ROM) , Canada's largest museum and one of the top 10 in the world; the Art Gallery of Ontario (AGO), Canada's oldest art gallery and home to more than 15,000 paintings; and the Ontario Science Centre, which entertains and educates 800,000 visitors a year.
