Overview

About the property

Studio, 1 Bedroom, 1 Bathroom (Sleeps 2)

This 20m² quiet and nice studio offers a rare combination of advantages:

• A perfect location: rue Gabrielle, in the middle of Montmartre district (metro Abbesses 1mn), near the trendy Abbesses street but in a calm location.

• Just aside the gardens of the Sacre Coeur church (1 mn)

• Apartment was fully redesigned summer 2012

• A fantastic view over Paris

Located in a nice 1930’ building, the apt is to be found on the 3rd and a half floor (French Standard, no elevator).

A small corridor leads to the living area. The room is full of light thanks to the 2 windows and offer a flying view over Paris and Parisian rooftops. The wooden floor gives a warm feeling.

The studio is designed as a small hotel suite: a bedroom with a real open kitchen, a small Parisian coffee table as a dining area and a nice bathroom. It offers a real comfortable double bed for 2 guests. It is a very nice place for 2.

The nicely designed bathroom is decorated with white and black tiles. It is equipped with a closed shower and offers a sink and toilet.

This location is a perfect base to visit Paris. It stays 15 minute by subway to most interesting Paris locations AND is a very charming and restful area to be appreciated after a whole day shopping and walking through museums.

Last point, we are staying 1 block away. We are here if you need help, but do not worry, we will not be intrusive.

Neighborhood :

Montmartre is a village within Paris: it combines the atmosphere of an ancient village with trendy shops and fabulous restaurants. Many artists and movie stars live in the district.

As you walk through Montmartre you will pass many winding and picturesque streets with fascinating houses, stairs and wonderful views over Paris. Look for the Montmartre Vineyard, walk to 'Place du Tertre' where artists will offer to draw your portrait and see Picasso’s house and the Salvador Dali museum. Visit the famous Sacre Coeur Moorish-looking church.

On the 'Rue des Abbesses' you will discover shops, cafes and clothing stores and in 'Rue Lepic' you will come across the market, wine shops - the cheese shop was rated n° 3 in France – bakeries and charcuteries. It’ll take a few days to select your preferred “café” !!! Walk down to the Moulin Rouge and experience the Paris nightlife.

On the north side, close to the “Lamarck” metro station is the famous Rue du Poteau Market as well as quaint antique shops.

The Champs-Elysees is only a ten-minute Metro ride, the Eiffel Tower, Le Marais, Les Halles, and Saint-Germain are all between 15- 20 minutes from Abbesses.

Gorgeous view of Paris...but be ready for STAIRS !!!

  • 4 of 5

Positives: Cute flat with a breathtaking view of Paris...was able to unpack suitcases and store under the bed. Kitchen/washing machine set up is easy to use with lots of light and the flat is set up well with hooks, necessities.

Hearing the bells from the Sacre Cour is very charming. Comfortable bed and pillows - it is on the top floor of the building (4 full floors up) so there is almost no street noise and neighbors are quiet.

Negatives/Warnings: Self check in process is a hassle. Be sure you have printed out the lengthy instructions - you will need all of it. The office where the key is located is not easy to access by car, meaning you will walk with luggage from car to the building - then leave luggage on bottom floor and hike several floors (no lift) to fetch the key. With luggage it's not realistic to walk from key pick up location to the flat. Two ubers, one to get from airport to get key - then from key pick up location to flat. This was really a struggle with luggage and traveling alone. No lift in the building and it's a hike to the top 4th floor. Other consideration is the flat is located along the one of the longest staircases in Montmartre - right next to the funicular - so be warned a considerable amount of stairs are hiked in getting home to this flat - I stayed there for a month and it was difficult for me after a long day or work to make it back to the flat with the combination of stairs it takes to reach it. Be Warned!!

The bathroom was a bit challenging - the shower is verrry tiny and awkward to get in and out without struggling a bit as the shower doors only open to enter through a small space. I am an average sized person and I barely fit in the shower stall.

The flat had not been properly cleaned/prepped for my arrival and some things needed attention. The sheets/bedspread were not clean, the shower/bathroom was not as clean as it could have been, and shower itself was broken. The apt manager responded in a reasonable amount of time, had things cleaned and repaired, but after arriving without sleep for 24 hours dreaming of a shower and a nap - was a huge inconvenience to then contact the rep, wait for the respective people to arrive, etc. I was crazy cross eyed tired by the time I made it to sleep.

Overall, the flat is very charming, French, loved the decor, butter colored walls and soft lighting - the view had me glued to the window, loved being near the Sacre Cour and in Montmartre - but STAIRS

Owner's Response: Hi Casey, It was a pleasure to host you. We are happy you enjoyed the breathtaking view of Paris, the decor and the charm of the apartment. We are very sorry the cleaning was not perfect when you arrived. It should never have happened. We are fighting for that with the cleaning company we use. We reacted as fast as possible and the cleaning lady was called for training by her management. The lady who cleans the apt is always the same and these steps should help prevent it from happening again. As far as the check in process, we are surprised it appeared complex. It enables check in and out at any time of the day. It prevents waiting for someone from either party who might be caught in traffic and limits long distances calls to find another. We have had this problem in the past when in Montmartre the taxi drivers who are rather new at their job, are unfamiliar with the streets. Picking up the key should take approximately 2 mins, while driving from the agency pick up place to the studio should take 1 mn max. We usually receive compliments for our for check in process. We are sorry it seemed complex. You mention the staircases in Montmartre. I guess this is sort of unavoidable in Montmartre : this is why this studio has a breathtaking view. Thank you anyway for the 4 stars that you gave the apt. and your stay. Hope to host you again in one of the apartments we manage in Paris !

Nice Little Apartment

  • 4 of 5

We stayed in this apartment for a week in November 2016. The owner is very responsive and helpful, which is a plus. The self check in process was smooth and easy.

As for the apartment itself, it is clean and as described in the listing. It is a small apartment, but coming from NYC we are used to that. The shower, however, is extremely tiny, so keep that in mind. Also, it is an older apartment, so don't expect it to be a cookie-cutter perfectly finished hotel room; it is not. There are some quirks that are to be expected in an older building, but nothing that would impact our recommendation. Also keep in mind that it is on the 4th floor of the building, and also very near the top of Montmartre, so our legs got quite the workout during our stay! Just one more thing to keep in mind if you are planning to book. However, the amenities are as described, including a coffee maker, tea kettle, dishes, microwave, small stovetop, mini fridge, and clothes washer (no dryer). We found everything that we needed to prepare some small meals for breakfast or a snack most days. Also, the bed is very comfortable!

The location itself is great... though it is a touristy area, the street itself is quiet. There are three cafes/restaurants just a block away (our favorite was Le Rendez-Vous des Amis), along with a small bodega. Within just a few minutes walk down the hill, the Rue des Trois-Freres and Rue Abbesses offer a large variety of restaurants, bars and cafes. We sampled a number of them during our stay, and were not disappointed once!

The metro is also fairly close, but also down the hill, so to get back to the apartment after a long day exploring Paris was a bit of a struggle up the stairs, but all part of the fun. We found that the Abbesses metro stop (line 12) was convenient for most things, but the Pigalle stop is only about 5 minutes farther on foot, which offers an additional metro line. Close to Pigalle was a Monop' supermarket, which offers better prices and selection than the neighborhood places. We also used this stop when getting to/from the airport. We took the RER B from Charles de Gaulle, then transferred to the La Chappelle station and took the metro to Pigalle. It took less than an hour and only costs 10 euro per person.

Overall, a very nice and economical place to stay while in Paris!

Home away from home in the city of lights

  • 5 of 5

We loved our stay in the city of lights. The apartment was in a wonderful neighborhood, within walking distance to so much within Montmartre and beyond. The Metro station is also nearby, which made traveling to other parts of the city easy too. The apartment is just the right size for two people and has all the necessities for making meals, doing laundry, etc. It was definitely our little home away from home. Thank you!

stay at Rue Gabrielle

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I stayed here from 9/25/14 through 9/28/14, and we enjoyed this apartment/mini-suite. we had a question so I called, and we were assisted immediately. This is not a complaint but an observation only regarding the shower. It can be tricky to get into and out of, but the pictures hide nothing. We would not hesitate to stay here again. wonderful place and great location.
