We fell in love with this cottage because of it's tremendous views and gorgeous sunsets it provided. Our hobby is renovating and restoring properties and making sure others have the opportunity to enjoy the wonderful state of Michigan and it's beautiful lakes.
Jan Andersen purchased this cottage in 2009
Whitehall offers the small town benefits and is a hidden treasure along the Lake Michigan shoreline. With the history of the logging industry and the summer resorts you have the chance to learn about the area and take part in many activities without the hustle and bustle of large crowds and vacation traffic.
Short walking distance to downtown, location on the bike trail, and being right on the water provides for convenience, relaxation and amazing sunsets on the front porch or private patio area.
We loved the view of the lake from both inside the home and outside on the front porch. It was great to have use of the canoes, a ladder to climb down into the lake, and the dock to sit on to read or to talk to those floating in the water. We enjoyed using the fire pit, the picnic tables, and lawn chairs out by the lake. The bike path right across the street was definitely a plus for those wanting to run or ride bikes. We enjoyed exploring the towns of Whitehall, Montague, and even Grand Haven down the road a bit. Our adult children especially liked the Book Nook and Java Shop in Montague. One day we took a road trip up to Sleeping Bear Dunes, which was a long drive but fun for those who enjoy climbing the dunes. The pier near the Whitehall Light House Museum was fun for those who enjoy jumping, flipping, and diving into the water. We loved the beaches on Lake Michigan. The two things we had to be flexible with were the bathrooms and the bunk beds. The only stand-up shower is in the bathroom off of the master bedroom, so we had to take shifts showering. Also the 2 bunk beds were not ideal for adults, but would be fine for children. The bunk beds were not the most comfortable and were squeaky. We had a one year old with us, though, and really appreciated that there was a gate for the stairs and a high chair type of seat provided. It was also great to have a washer and dryer in the basement to use. The kitchen was beautiful, the seating at the table was nice, and the family room in the basement was great. There was a nice variety of games provided also for those rainy days. It was a nice place to stay.
House has a great flow to it, rooms just work so well and are all immaculate.
Views mesmerizing of the lake
Owner such a lovely welcoming lady.
What a great place! I've rented a few places via Homeaway and this one is by far the best! Newly remodeled and decorated beautifully! You have everything you need... just bring your beach towels. The whirlpool tub in the main bathroom is just what you need to soak away a long day on the lake!
Quiet spot on White Lake, but just a short distance from 2 gerat small towns in Michigan. Just perfect for some R & R! Take advantage of the many small businesses and great shopping! Lake is great for fishing (though we weren't lucky) and we brought our 17 foot open bow boat and parked it at the dock for the week. What a great time! They have a pontoon boat you can rent for the week and also canoes you can use. The lake is very calm in the morning and evening- perfect for a ride around the lake on kayaks or canoes! Not at all busy during the week so there is plenty room tohave some fun tubing and water skiing! Sunsets are fantastic so bring a good camera for some great shots!
The fire pits are HUGE so bring plenty of fire wood!!
The kitchen is amazing and plenty of room for everyone to gather and hang out! The finished basement is nice and cool which is a great break in the evening from a day on the lake! Take advantage of the fooseball table!
Recommend bringing bikes or renting them for a day from White Lake Excursions inside Moxie Marine building. We biked to New Era on the Montague/ Hart bike path and had a fabulous lunch at the Trailside Restaurant (they have the BEST PIE!) and then biked home again.
Plenty of parks and natural areas to explore. Bring comfortable shoes! Great fishing bridge downtown but many local fisherman were catching bass just past the dock at the house so you don't have to go far! No WiFi but my sprint phone had pretty good signal at the house and on the lake. The Eagles lodge is just down the street and they have some great food specials throughout the week so check their sign!
The General Store in Whitehall is run by a couple of older gals who are just a hoot and ready to give visitors some great advice on what to do in the area!
I would recommend this to anyone and everyone! All in all a great place for a lot of different groups and gatherings! A great spot for the fall as the colors chagne I bet as well!! The bike trail would be spectacular during the color changes!
We stayed in June of 2013 and the house is really great. The pictures are accurate, the central air was working and provided a nice relief from the heat outside. Jan was honest with us no matter what questions we had, we received our deposit back upon checking out. We've stayed in a few other rentals in the area the past two years and this was by far the best! We would cerntainly stay here again.
Enjoy the short drive to Michigan Adventure Theme and Water Park for summer fun or take in Horseback riding and golf at the Double JJ Ranch. The Farmers Market in nearby Montague attracts visitors along with the famous Pumpkin Roll in the fall. For winter sports fun try the Muskegon Winter Sports Park where you can take in ice skating on trails through the woods, try your skills at the Olympic training luge, or cross country ski after dark on lighted trails. Summers are just perfect for time on the beach on either White Lake or Lake Michigan, or take a fishing charter on Lake Michigan to catch a 20 pound salmon. For the casual walker or biker you are located on the bike trail and can go for miles on paved trails for leisurely enjoyment.
