Wickyup Camp is located on one of the most beautiful and private lakes in all New England and is available to couples and families who not only want a quiet and relaxing vacation but also one full of activities and adventure. If you have a rainy day, no problem! Wickyup has a large game room with ping-pong, air hockey, foosball and TV with an extensive dvd collection of movies . Five miles long, Tunk Lake has only 12 cabins on the southern 2/3 of the lake. Wickyup is perfect for your family vacation!
Local Shopping & Medical Facilities: Ellsworth is about 30 minutes from the Wickyup. It includes 2 grocery store chains (Hanaford & Shaws), WalMart, Fast Food (McDonalds, Wendys, Burger King, Pizza Hut, Friendly's, Taco Bell, etc), Home Depot, Lowes, Hospital, Walk-in Medical Clinic, movie theater, and much more.
Location: Tunk Lake: There is swimming, hiking, Mt. climbing, boating, fishing on Tunk Lake, and since the lake has so few cabins, boat traffic is very light. No Jet Skis are allowed (by law).
Bar Harbor is a beautiful old New England town and a must-see. ACADIA NATIONAL PARK is the northeast’s only National Park. Don't miss Schoodic Point which is part of Acadia National Park and is just up the coast in the Winter Harbor area.
Restaurants: There are many restaurants between Tunk Lake and Ellsworth, in the Winter Harbor area, and in Bar Harbor. There is something for everyone from all the major fast food chains (in Ellsworth) to very fine dining.
Golf: There are several golf courses in the area anywhere from 20 minutes to an hour away. Winter Harbor's golf course has views to the ocean from every hole!

Why Eleanor Byrd chose East Hancock
Wickyup II is named after our grandparents original lodge (built in 1927-28) which burned to the ground in 1984. Waiting 23 years to be able to rebuild, Wickyup II was erected in 2007on the property which has been in the family since 1938. It has special meaning to us as we remember all the wonderful times we had as children and can now pass those experiences on to our children and grandchildren.
What makes this Cabin unique
The charm of this beautiful log cabin coupled with forest wilderness makes this location exceptionally heartwarming. The peace and quiet is amazing; unless of course there are parties and children laughing and playing! Listening to the 'quiet' is an experience few of us are familiar with. The crisp clear sounds of wildlife free of any human racket is priceless. The cry of the loon is heard often adding to the feeling of tranquility. The night sky, free of incident lighting is a blanket of stars. Hours spent on the dock at night identifying constellations can not only be a learning experience but also quite romantic! The covered porch has two adjustable hammock chairs with foot slings perfect for reading, napping and just plain swinging. The VERY large open deck looks out on the lake and over the lawn area complete with hammock. For more, see amenities.

Sports & Adventure Activities
This is an awesome property- it is apparent the love and care that the owner puts into it.
The owner puts a lot of thought into the comfort and pleasure of her renters- everything you need is provided. We enjoyed reading various materials and looking at photos that reflected the history of Wickyup II and the Byrd family. The large deck was awesome and the game room- especially the ping pong table- got a lot of use. The caretakers Rob & Sammy were really great and another sources of info about the camp and the area. One word of caution would be - be prepared for deer flies and horse flies. Again the owner provides spray and some protective clothing but they ARE there and can make some outdoor activities difficult. The cabin/house is totally beautiful- very comfortable to be in- has such a loved and homey feeling
Lovely property & amazing experience
The entire group had a lovely time. The cottage was adequate & well supplied with games, videos & water activities. Telescope was an added bonus to view the night sky. The lake was pristine & kids had fun in the waters. The house itself was well maintained with enough pots, pans & towels.
Just wish there was some kind of Internet!! But, was a good excuse for kids & adults to be free of their electronics!!
Will definitely visit again.
Heaven on earth
If you enjoy tranquillity and relaxation in a remote setting with all the comforts of home on a spring fed, crystal clear lake, look no further. Tunk captures the true essence of Maine, from the mountains that surround the lake to the sounds of loons. This cabin was very clean and well stocked with all the amenities necessary for housing a large family. Having access to a private beach for children, to the use of kayaks, dock, and float makes a perfect setting for family recreational activities. All this plus close proximity to Acadia National park, hiking trails and restaurants makes this a true well rounded vacation.
This cabin had all the accommodations of home in a remote location on a lake that is second to none. Breathtaking beauty is all around and its close to everything you could want to do. Hike the nearby trails of Donnell Pond Reserve, shop and eat in the nearby town of Ellsworth or take a day trip to Bar Harbor and Acadia National Park. This cabin is idyllically located to give you everything Maine has to offer.
Perfect gathering place for a large family
This handsome, spacious log home in a remote, beautiful location is one-of-a-kind. Everything is provided for cooking, comfort and recreation for a group of 12, all ages. The home is immaculate and comfortable, with a large play room complete with ping pong, air hockey, exercise equipment, foos ball, darts, and a movie viewing corner with an extensive selection of DVDs.The wrap-around deck and porch invite reading and conversation. We enjoyed learning about the history of the area and the property from the materials left for our interest. The kitchen works well with four people in it. The beach, dock and float are in excellent condition. We enjoyed swimming out to the island and back. The kayaks and canoe were used often. Bikers will find roads and trails nearby. Hikers can picnic atop local mountains or explore remote beaches on Donnell and Little Tunk ponds. Schoodic Point of Acadia National Park is an easy one hour drive south. The owner is very helpful and eager for you to have the best vacation ever at her rental. She provided 12 of most everything we needed . Extensively equipped and built to provide hospitality for a large group. We loved our stay here and hope to return. We recommend this beautiful place to anyone.
