I moved to SF 13 years ago from England and own a tour company. Being in the travel industry has given me a keen sense of what people want when they get away for the weekend. I personally use this house as my own getaway and have equipped it as such. I'm a keen cook and have made sure you will find everything you need if you like to cook. The kitchen is equiped with a double over, convection microwave, Kitchenaid mixer and high end bosh dishwasher to clean the mess. If you like to smoke ribs, I have a smoker. If you like to use a high end gas grill, I got one for you. Like to cook over charcoal? Well the house has that too!
Russian river is my absolute favorite area in Northern California and is the perfect weekend getaway for me. Living in San Francisco is great, but I really enjoy getting out of the city and into the fresh air! There are 9 redwoods on the property yet you can walk to downtown / safeway. It is great for kids with peewee gold and a newly restored epic playground 100 years away. Like tennis? Use the free courts just 1 min walk away.
Food, food and food. If the great kitchen does not do it for you, how about the Michelin star Applewood restaurant walking distance from the house? The 9 redwoods provide plenty of shade in the summer to grill outside and the fence keeps the large back yard 100% private and secure for kids. The location of the property makes it easy to walk into town or go swim at Johnson's Beach (5 mins).
In the heart of the Sonoma Wine Country, wine tasting is always a good activity and I love discovering new wineries to try out. The Russian River and Healdsburg wine regions are laid-back, beautiful, and make delicious wines from multiple varietals.
The house itself is warm, inviting and perfect for entertaining or just relaxing in peace and quiet.
Linens & bedding need to be replaced. Carpets were stained/dirty. The downstairs & outside bedroom was musty. The whole place needs a good cleaning and some TLC.
Our family spent Thanksgiving week at the house: grandparents, parents, 2 children and a baby. The house was clean and well-stocked. It was roomy enough with one bedroom on the main level for the grandparents, a separate cottage bedroom across the deck for the parents and a very big basement room with a trundle bed and another twin bed plus a futon. The kids enjoyed playing in this room that also had its own TV and a shelf full of books and some games. The living room was cozy with a wood-burning stove, big windows, comfy sofa and chairs and a big screen TV. The modern kitchen was well-stocked, and the gas stove and dishwasher worked well - a must for Thanksgiving dinner! The weather was warm enough to use the hot tub, which was up some steps from the deck making it feel like it was in the trees. The outside decks could have used some sweeping as there were some leaves and debris around. The location was excellent: a Redwood State Park with hiking trails as well as vineyards are very close-by, the Coast is 20 minutes away, and you can walk into Guerneville where there are a number of restaurants and stores including a supermarket. There is a playground down the street for the kids. Unfortunately the miniature golf was closed for the season as was the beach area on the river. The owner provided a binder with all the pertinent information for running the house - we had no issues at all with appliances, heat, etc. Everything worked well. The only thing we weren't thrilled with is that the basement room uses a plug-in electric heater. It kept the room warm, but it can be a concern with little children. Outside the room is the laundry area which is not heated. The only other thing that could be a problem to some is that there is a double flight of stairs from the street level to the front door. Overall, we enjoyed this home and would recommend it.
Blue Jay Hideaway was great. The space was comfortable and spacious, the amenities were enjoyable especially the hot tub, and it's at a very convenient location walking distance from central Guerneville and Johnson's Beach.
The pictures say it all. It is a beautifully decorated house, specially the interior and the patio. The downstairs room was great for us and the kids. My parents stayed in the room upstairs, which was big and bautifull. The kitchen has all modern appliances and it was fully equipted. We were able to relax and I even took a nap in the outside room. I highly recommend it.
Great place, conveniently located. It was one of our best New Years yet. Thanks!
We had a wonderful Thanksgiving here. The kitchen is totally decked out with great utensils and kitchenware, and the table area is very charming. It was also lovely to sit by the fire in the rain in the large family room.
The only thing we weren't expecting (probably bc we didn't read carefully enough) was that there is no bathroom attached to the detached sleeping room. One couple had to walk in the rain to the main house to use the toilet at night.
Other than that, it's a fabulous place.
Wine Tasting, Close to Pacific Coast. 'Children's playground 300 yards away','Public tennis courts 300 yards away'
