This house has been in my family for 4 generations. It used to be the Belle Ayre Post Office and later, the Town Clerk's office. Surrounded by thousands of acres of Catskill Park, Belle Ayre House is the perfect escape! A large wrap-around porch greets you as you arrive-perfect for watching sunsets or a summer rain. Inside, the dining room with fireplace is just the spot for cozy dinners. The modern kitchen has everything needed for preparing meals. 3 beautifully decorated bedrooms upstairs let you sleep in peace and quiet, hearing only the sound of the stream in summer. 2 large bathrooms: one with vintage clawfoot tub and radiant heat in the floor; the other has a large walk-in shower. Plenty of cozy nooks to sit and read or take a nap. Full size washer & dryer in laundry room. Outside, a bonfire pit behind the house is perfect for roasting marshmallows and telling campfire stories. Enjoy strolls up or down the road. Lots of wildlife and beauty to be seen. Just up the road (3 miles) is the trailhead to the Balsam Mountain Fire Tower. This is not to be missed in any season! 360 degree views from the top of the tower! Belleayre Ski Center is a 15 minute drive. Grocery store and restaurants are all 15 minutes away as well. We look forward to your stay at Belle Ayre House!
House was very clean and offered everything one could need for a Catskills getaway. Owner and caretakers were very responsive and helpful. Absolutely no complaints :)
Belle Ayre House is lovely. Just the right size for our family of 4, plus a grandmother. Tastefully decorated, and a great balance of farmhouse charm with modern amenities. The weekend was quite cold (-10 F), but the house was well insulated and always warm (we've rented some homes where you cannot escape the antique drafty windows).
Our children were very happy in the room above the garage, enjoying the toys and games. The adults were content sitting by the fire or watching a movie.
Wendy, the owner was responsive during the booking process. Not surprisingly, there was a frozen pipe during our stay, and the property managers addressed the situation the same day.
We would definitely rent again.
If you are craving a relaxing get away from crowds and the big city, this renovated farmhouse is perfect. It is secluded and picturesque and the home is decorated in a perfect balance of rustic with modern touches- great kitchen & the bathrooms are beautiful! There are great little historic touches throughout the house (photos, old books). The upstairs attic was a pleasant surprise- the photos don't capture what a cozy inviting room this is and the kids went crazy over their own "special room" with tons of toys to keep them busy. We came for a long ski weekend and the house is situated close to Belleayre (nearby Peekamoose restaurant is a must). No cell service or cable but wifi keeps you in the loop if you need to be. Wendy and her great property managers are ridiculously accommodating- your comfort during your stay is important to them and it really makes a difference in the overall feeling you get while staying at Belleayre house. I am hoping to visit during the warmer months !
We very much enjoyed our trip and the great house. The house is clean and well maintained. There are two cozy bedrooms at the upper level and a large sleeping loft which worked perfectly for the kids. When we arrived the house was already warmed up, there was local coffee beans stored in the refrigerator and a christmas tree was waiting for us in the living room.
On the way to Margaretville we found a perfect trail that was easily accessible for the kids. We went skiing at Belleayre Ski Center and swimming at an indoor pool in Arkville.
We had a great time and would definitely rent the house again.
we had a wonderful stay. the house is well appointed and spacious. the grounds are lovely, the beds comfortable and the house is near fantastic hikes. About 30 mins from Margetville so plan groceries accordingly. and no cell service at the house so write down the lock box code before you get off the grid (or you have to travel about 10 mins further to get cell service like we did!).
All in all a wonderful stay and we will definitely be back.
If you want to feel as if you are truly in the country, this is the place to come. You can see that the owners if this property want their guests to have a wonderful experience. The house is immaculate. Although it's a home from the 1800s , there are modern amenities. The lemonade porch out front is do relaxing. You can sit with a cup of tea or glass if wine and listen to the roosters ...it certainly is a treat if you want to de stress ! There are been some very old cool books you can check out in the house. Beds are very comfie. Kitchen is well equipt. If Wendy is reading this , love the counter tops... So , go and enjoy your stay. You definately will.
Pakatakan Farmers' Market May-October, Belleayre Ski Center, Delaware & Ulster Rail Ride, boating, swimming, TONS of hiking trails within just a few miles of the house!!!
