About The Owner

The home is owned by a local Pacifica couple, that have three boys and a dog. We spend our time at the beach surfing, hiking our hills and entertaining family & friends in our spacious home or on the deck.

The Owner purchased this house in 1996

Why The Owner chose Pacifica

Our home offers the best of a Northern California beach community, while being close to San Francisco for days out on the town. It is also 15 minutes from the airport.

What makes this house unique

We love our quiet location and beautiful ocean views, while having San Francisco available for quick trips to the city. We can walk or ride our bikes to the beach, restaurants, Oceana Market and our favorite yoga studio, Ocean Yoga.

Really enjoyed our stay in charming, relaxing home with great views.

  • 5 of 5

We spent six nights here and had a great time. Owner very easy to communicate/deal with. Views were great and we were lucky with the weather with only one day of fog obscuring the views. Yes the freeway noise does clash with the crashing of the waves but it wasn't really an issue for us and no noise/very peaceful inside at night with windows closed. Neighbouring trees beginning to impede some views but again not an issue for us.

House is spacious with lots of open space and natural light. We found it charming/quirky, comfortable and very relaxing. Kitchen/dining/living area a lovely room and we liked the layout given that we had 3 teenagers with us who each got their own room/space/privacy (and were happy with the WiFi & Netflix) but were all just off the main living area. Also really liked the privacy/location of the house which is not cut-off but in what seems a quiet neighbourhood where we felt very safe. The steep driveway could have been a challenge for me but it wasn't for my husband! Location just 20 minutes drive from San Francisco was a huge plus for us.

The house is clearly a well lived in and loved family home with lots of personal items and artwork. It was clean, no sign of insects though yes it could do with some DIY here and there. The oven/pilot light being on all the time was a slight concern given that it is gas and the teenagers would have liked blinds in their bedrooms (didn't stop them sleeping very well). Yes outdoor/yard could also do with some work but our 2 boys enjoyed playing with the rebound net and your attention is focused on the great views when you go outdoors anyway - the deck area was lovely and outdoor furniture was fine.

All in all we really enjoyed our stay in this house.

This house certainly has its positive and negatives

  • 3 of 5

First of all, the owner is very good at communicating in a timely manner. We never had a hard time getting a hold of him. When we first arrived at the house and couldn’t access the Internet, he was very responsive and fixed the problem right away. Other reviewers are correct in that the view from the house is amazing. But we were at the house for 6 days in July and only saw the ocean once from the deck as it was so foggy (not the owner’s fault, of course). Also, there is a freeway between the house and the beach which made for a not-so-nice view at times and a lot of noise. You certainly cannot hear the sound of crashing waves from the house as the owner’s description says. The neighborhood is quiet and private otherwise (we never saw a single neighbor), but the home is on a very steep hill and the driveway is incredibly difficult to get in and out of. The home itself is spacious and one of the bathrooms is updated. However, the home has an awkward layout and is generally run-down and in need of care. The walls had cracks and holes, there were broken blinds and windows, open electrical outlets, dangling wires, and the home was quite dirty in places (some dishes were covered in dust and stuck-on food). There were also no screens in any of the windows. We could therefore not keep the windows open for security reasons and because of insects. The outside of the house was covered in spider webs. There is no air conditioning, so having to keep the windows closed most of the time made the house stuffy.

Other good things about the house are that it is within walking distance to the beach, grocery store, pier, restaurants, and hiking. It has comfortable furniture, plenty of bedding and towels, and a kitchen that is well stocked (except there is no microwave – there is also no outdoor grill). However, the yard and exterior of the home had a surprisingly neglected appearance. There were bikes and scooters outside that were very rusty, although there were other toys for children to play with both inside and outside the home that were in good condition. We did not have any children with us on our trip, but I would not recommend this home for kids. There are several hazards (i.e., a stove that is continually hot, open electrical sockets, sharp glass on the coffee table). Lastly, be prepared for a lot of personal items in the home and strange artwork (there is a huge painting of a naked lady).

Owner's Response: Cynthia, Thank you for your review. I'm sorry to hear that you experienced foggy weather during your stay. That can happen here in Northern California on the coast during the summer. It's also unfortunate that you didn't hear the waves crashing as they consistently do. This is a very kid friendly house as we are currently raising 3 children in it. In fact, most of our renters have kids and really enjoy the spacious layout of the house, the bikes, scooters, boogie boards, games and items we have for them. I'm sorry to hear you thought our house was run down. We have never had that response from a renter before. California has been in a drought for several years now so everything is brown. We have restricted water usage and cannot water our grass & plants as we would like. Perhaps this is what you are referring to when you say the yard has a 'neglected appearance'. As far as the 'sharp glass on the coffee table' that is sea glass we have gathered from our beaches. Also, the stove that is 'consistently hot' is a 6 burner commercial grade gas stove. With this type of stove, the pilot light stays on so it does generate some heat from it. I assure you it is quite safe. Plus it's a great stove to use for cooking. I appreciate you letting us know that there was dust and some unclean dishes. I have already talked with our cleaning crew about this to ensure it won't happen again. You are correct about not having a microwave or grill, if you look at our listing, you will see that we don't have these two items listed under amenities. It is very rare to find AC in Bay Area houses as it's not needed due to the wonderful breeze from the Pacific Ocean. We do have wooden bars next to each window so you can leave the window open and still feel secure. Fortunately, we don't have bugs in the area so you can leave the windows open without screens. We're happy to hear that you enjoyed the quiet neighborhood and the surrounding area.

Incredible Views of the ocean with whale watching from the deck!

  • 5 of 5

We rented this house for 5 days over Memorial Weekend and it was perfect! The ocean views are amazing and we could see whales from the deck! I highly recommend this house because of it's open space, french doors out to the large deck, natural light, stocked kitchen and the privacy. It truly felt like a California home.

The owners were very easy to work with and responded immediately to my emails.

They have great toys for our kids & even let us use their bikes and boogie boards. Plenty of linens, condiments, pots/pans and stainless steel appliances. The house is minutes from 3 different beaches and hiking trails. It is also walking distance to a great market and a fabulous yoga studio called Ocean Yoga.

San Francisco is a 15 minute drive and the SFO is close by too.

We will definitely rent this house again when we are back in the Bay Area.

Wonderful place for a relaxing weekend

  • 5 of 5

A group of college friends and I enjoyed this house for the Labor Day weekend. First, the ocean views are absolutely stunning! You can't beat this home for a beach side resort. Charming house, very comfortable, lots of windows and natural light. There's a fort and treehouse, which would be great for kids. My only warnings would be that the driveway is a bit steep to park in (better off parking on the side of the street), and there wasn't a microwave (well, at least one that we could find).

Awesome house, great location!

  • 5 of 5

I would definitely recommend renting this house. It was perfect for our family of 4, beautiful views, lots of great restaurants close by, and a quick drive to San Fran and the airport. The little grocery store close by is perfect to get things for meals, and a great wine selection too. The owners were great to work with and had a well stocked kitchen and great reading materials! We spent a lot of time on the back patio with the perfect view!

I highly recommend renting this house! It has a fantastic view of the ocean, great open space inside and just far enough away from the hubbub of San Francisco to find peace and relaxation yet easily accessible to the city. The owners are very nice and easy to deal with. We were all very comfortable there. We will definitely look to rent this house again!
