Old Lyme is a classic, small New England Town within easy reach of Boston, Providence and New York. Hawk's Nest Beach is a private, friendly, family-oriented neighborhood.
Nothing extraordinary, just a great, single - level cottage directly on the beach, the view's across Long Island Sound to the eastern most tip of Long Island. To the left is the Atlantic Ocean.
My family and I rented this cottage during Labor Day Weekend for a little get-together, and it was the perfect location! It's right on the beach, plenty of space. The cottage was clean and definitely had that feel as if it was "home." Neighbors were all very friendly. Wifi included, plenty of chairs inside and on the beach, including a picnic table. In addition to this being a great rental, Elly is a wonderful owner! Very accommodating, such as with parking spaces, and just for anything we needed or had questions about. It was also a pleasure meeting her husband! I highly recommend this cottage and working with Elly and her family!!! :)
After years booking hotels when visiting our Conn. family, we tried something different and rented this lovely beach house. At this quaint cottage on the beach we had our most memorable visit ever. The kids will be talking about this one for years to come. Daytime relaxing on the beach, BBQ meals, and smore's by the fire pit at night. For me, the best was at the end of our stay, my husband said, "Well done picking this place."
All the necessary rental conditions were met: clean, comfortable beds, well stocked kitchen, 1 & 1/2 baths, washing machine. The owner Elly could not have been nicer... very accommodating. We look forward to another stay next year.
I recently celebrated my daughter's 16th birthday with five of her friends at this cottage. Being right on the beach and having that beautiful view from the cottage is so special and breathtaking and is something you can only experience if you are right on the beach. The cottage is decorated very light and breezy and is absolutely adorable. The updated kitchen is wonderful and the beds are comfortable. Enjoying sitting on the beach, eating on the porch, reading on the deck, and sitting at tables right on the beach with umbrellas and shade was great. Elly is committed to making sure your experience at her cottage is all that it should be and was available for assistance or just to ask a question. Enjoyed A.C. Petersen's Drive-In, Bill's Seafood in Westbrook, Teddy's Pizza on Route 156, and visiting the Bookbarn in Niantic. Will definitely stay here again.
My family and I enjoyed the cottage. It was so nice to see sunrise abd set from back porch. This place (Hawks Nest Beach) is great place for family andcouples. We will be coming back in near future.
My family was happy to find a last minute ocean front property to take a vacation. We have an infant and were excited that the owner had a washer machine so that we could pack less and wash while we were there. When we arrived the owner was not there and we had to wait for her so that we could get into the cottage. The cottage itself was fine. However the cable was disconnected from the house leaving us without cable for the week. When we went to use the washing machine the hoses were not long enough to hook up to the bathroom sink. At the end of the vacation we cleaned the cottage as we would our own house. We are very neat people. My husband vacuumed all rooms and her sliding glass door track so that it would work. We scrubbed the bathroom and cleaned the kitchen. The day after our departure we sent the owner a text stating we had a great time and also asked if we left the cottage to her satisfaction. We received no response. A week and a half later we sent her another text asking when we would expect to receive our deposit back. This time she replied she sends all security deposits out at the end of the month. At the end of the month we received a partial security deposit with a note attached stating " kitchen floor, fridge, microwave, and stove top dirty" She says it took 2 hrs to clean @ $75 and hour. We again sent her a text to contact us so we could discuss this issue. Again no response. The next day i called her and left a message. This time she called back. I started by telling her i believe you have us mixed up with someone else. I also asked her why she never responded to our text the day after our departure if we left the place such a mess. Her response "she was tired". Now i think we all know how much effort it takes to reply the word "No" and hit the send button. So i ask why she said nothing about the place being a mess when i contacted her about when we could expect our security deposit. That time she had replied but made no mention of the place being left a mess. She said the mess was caused by spaghetti. Now folks I can tell you for a fact that we never had spaghetti. Which again i told her i believe you have us mixed up with someone else. She did not want to hear anything i had to say. Now keep in mind its a small cottage. I think if we left the place such a mess that it took 2 hrs to clean the items she had listed she would of had no problems responding to our earlier text. I highly recommend Hawks Nest just find yourself another rental
We went to the cottage right at the beginning of peak season and had a wonderful time!!! The cottage was a traditional New England cottage and was right on the beach! The screened porch was wonderful, and we thoroughly enjoyed our week-long stay, adults and children alike. The only reason I did not give it a 5/5 was because of some water issues we had while we there, but I must say the hostess was WONDERFUL and took care of things as soon as she possibly could.
We are hoping to be able to return again next summer, and we could not recommend the owner and her lovely Shore cottage enough! It truly represents what beach cottage living is in that area of the CT shore!
