This is a great location for any winter or summer vacation. For skiing you are at 100 yards to the ski slope. You are 1/2 way up the mountain, ski down in the morning take the lift up and ski back to your ski home later on. No more driving to the lodge and waiting with the crowds. The summer months are also terrific at Camelback, they have the LARGEST waterpark in PA. There are waterslides, wavepools, water playground etc. or you can go to Camelback Resort Park for ziplining, rockwall climbing, rollercoaster riding or nature walks! Of course, there are also many other water sports in the area: canoeing, whitewater rafting, fishing etc.
Inside is a 3 level townhouse. There are two bedrooms on the lower level, one has a queen bed and the other bdrm has a queen bed and a set of twin size bunkbeds. The lower level also has a full bath, and full size washer and dryer. The main level, which includes the living room, kitchen and 1/2 bath, has a wood beamed cathedral ceiling and a huge stone fireplace with 2 sets of sliders to the wraparound deck with great views of the surrounding mountains. The sofa is also a queen size pull out. The upper level is the loft with a king size bed and full bath with an enclosed shower stall. There are TV's in all the bedrooms, and free WiFi inside the unit.
PLEASE NOTE THAT OUR UNIT IS NONSMOKING.
THERE IS PLENTY TO DO IN THE POCONOS. IF YOU GET TIRED OF SKIING OR SNOWBOARDING IN THE WINTER, OR CAMELBEACH IN THE SUMMER, THERE IS ALSO A HUGE OUTLET MALL NEARBY, THE CROSSINGS, WITH MANY GREAT SHOPPES; AND MOUNT AIRY CASINO IS JUST 6 MI. AWAY!
DON'T FORGET TO BRING A SWIM SUIT AND SHORTS WITH YOU WHEN YOU COME DURING SKI SEASON, YOU JUST MIGHT WANT TO SPENT SOME TIME AT THE INDOOR POOL AND SPA IN THE CLUB HOUSE, WHERE THEY ALSO HAVE INDOOR TENNIS AND BASKETBALL COURTS.
Our family has been making trips to the Poconos for years; each time we've stayed, we hated to leave. Infact, Nick & I spent our honeymoon at the Poconos in 1967! Now that we're retired, we decided to purchase our own place there, so that we could spend as much time as we want, without having to check out of a hotel.
thank you so much! We had a lovely stay. We will definitely be looking into returning, possibly during this ski season, but definitely for next year!
The Positives:(1)Correspondence with the owners was easy, and they were responsive to our needs. The owners seem to genuinely care that we had the best stay possible at their rental. (2)The house is spacious— 3 bedrooms! 2.5 baths! (3)The house is clean. (4)The kitchen has all of your basic needs (and a dishwasher, too!) (5)The location is very close to the mountain (you can technically walk right to it, but it might not be best for some people—see more below). (6)The pictures are accurate and not misleading on the listing. You get what you think you’re getting—always a plus! (7)We were fortunate enough to have this rental be available at a relatively short notice (the same week) and the owners didn’t skip a beat to our request.
The Not So Positives:(1)The mountain is indeed close and can technically be walked to, but for some—like beginners or children, it isn’t very easy to get to in your ski boots and carrying your skis. The “boys” didn’t mind the hike and the steep step onto the blue square slope that was directly down the lane from rental (which Camelback according to their maps must have just increased this particular slope to a blue for this year-2016), but the rest of the group was much more confident getting dropped off at the base. It did seem easier to actually get off the slopes and walk back to the rental from above before it splits from a green to the blue. So at the end of the day, there wasn’t as much of a need to pickup. We had our car, so dropping off wasn’t a huge deal, and again, the rental is very very close.(2)This is more of a mistake of my inexperience, but this rental does not come with sheets for the beds. (It DOES have blankets and pillows for the beds.) As someone who usually stays at hotels, this was an unexpected inconvenience that I will be better prepared for in the future— it would have been good to know before booking, and I’ll make sure to ask before booking other places in the future. (3)If you are a picky cook, I’d recommend packing your favorite pot, pan, and knife— this is the only thing I wish I had brought, but we still had great meals. (4)The place is a little dated and well loved(by all of us people who love having the convenience to the slopes)- Old TVs (unable to plug in a game system for the kids), little technical issues with lights and other appliances...I expected this, and none of them would constitute a deterrent for me to book here, again, in the future.
Overall, I'd definitely recommend it!
The home itself was even nicer than expected. Just don't forget to bring sheets, pillow cases and towels! The location was fantastic as we could walk directly to the slopes of Camelback half way up so we could walk over, ski down and pick up our lift tickets. May be problematic for people without their own equipment but a quick drive to the bottom and back up with a multiday rental and you'll be fine! There were two reserved parking spaces in front which was perfect for our late arrival. The security folks at the gate were extremely friendly and helpful as the main office closes at 5pm. Madeline was a pleasure to deal with via e-mail and promptly returned my security deposit. I highly recommend staying here!
I vacationed with my husband and 6 kids at Madeline's townhouse and we had a great time! There was plenty of room for all of us to relax and eat together. The house was clean with all the supplies we needed to cook. The walk to the slopes was a little difficult for my younger kids due to the steps in ski boots but at least the parking was right in front of the townhouse. Also, Madeline was very accommodating, as I had to switvh my dates ! We will be back next year!! Thanks
Can't thank you enough for an amazing ski break!! From beginning to end the trip was seamless. Madeline was always quick to respond to my emails and the house was exactly as promised. We were 2 mothers and 3 teenagers and we just needed to get away to ski! The house was in a great location, it was clean and fully stocked with all of the necessities. We had a wonderful vacation and can't wait to come back! Thanks again!
From booking to the actual vacation, I cannot recommend this rental more! The booking itself and any questions I had prior to checking in was great. Madeline was always prompt and thorough in her response and provided ample information. We stayed in this home with 7 adults and 3 children and there was plenty of room-we had a fun, relaxing and adventurous vacation and we are ready to book another one. The house is clean, well taken care of, and in a prime location. The kitchen is fully stocked with all items you could need to cook for your stay. I had no problem opening the cabinets and using anything in there with the level of cleanliness it was like being at home. There is ample seating for meals (in addition to the dining room table, there are extra stools). Each room had a TV with cable (your normal channels + Disney if you have kids you may find this important) and a DVD or VCR player. There are some games/movies for you to enjoy as well. The 2 ½ baths which have 1 bath tub and 1 with a shower stall- again very clean. The washer and dryer was one of the best amenities- you don’t have to pack as heavy and with utilizing the pool and winter activities, there’s a lot to pack of course. Having the ability to wash clothes was a huge perk travelling with kids! The fireplace was great- right outside the neighborhood there was a little place we found for firewood. 2 large bundles / $15.00 –it was a great deal. The view with the sliding glass doors was beautiful especially over coffee or a glass of wine. The neighborhood was also quiet and safe– all the people we encountered were respectful. You can walk right out the door and get to the mountain for skiing/snowboarding. For snow tubing, which we were mainly there for, it was a short drive – 3-5 minutes including parking (which there was no charge for). The indoor pool/gym/recreation area was great and we utilized this daily-it was a 1-2 minute drive (you can walk there as well). Outlet stores are not far- under 10 minutes away (less time depending on time of day). Barley Creek Restaurant of course was great as always- plus there are some delis at the bottom of the neighborhood as well along with ski shops. For 1st time renters of this home, we were unsure what to expect and I am happy to report our expectations were met and exceeded. Thank you for allowing us the opportunity- we’ll be booking again soon!
Four of us stayed here as a weekend ski/boarding weekend getaway. Is def worth a stay. Clean, easy check in and out, owners are quick to respond to any email sent, close enough to get food in town and close to the slopes. Only minuses are there is a little walk to the mountain to ski out and the walls are a little thin.
If that isn't enough, The Crossings, a 100 store outlet mall, is also only 3 miles away
