Overall:

The property is even more lovely and inviting than described in the written documentation. The owners are very accommodating and gracious. The property is a true country villa contained in two houses that have been totally modernized, but still retains an "old world" charm.

Enjoyed Most:

The country settings and the views of the mountains and valleys. We used the outdoor picnic shelter for dinner every night so we could enjoy the views.

Surrounding Area:

The owner told us about the harvest festival in Subbiano that was going to take place on our first full day at the villa. We went and thoroughly enjoyed interacting with the local residents.

Nearby Events or Locales:

Subbiano. It is not really within walking distance.

Tips or Restaurants:

Bring zip lock bags for your leftovers.

Directions:

MapQuest will take you right to the villa.

Check In Out:

Both processes were handled in a friendly, yet efficient manner.

  • 5 of 5

Overall:

Excellent. I would recommend this villa.

Enjoyed Most:

The homes were beautiful and the property was well maintained.

Enjoyed Least:

Some in our group complained about dogs barking at night, although I was not bothered by this.

Surrounding Area:

The Tuscan hill towns were all worth visiting. The countryside is great, with rolling hills and farms, vineyards, and orchards.

Nearby Events or Locales:

Subbiano. The road really was not suitable for walking, although it is within walking distance.

Tips or Restaurants:

The restaurants in Subbiano were all good. They ranged from simple and inexpensive to gourmet.

Directions:

I did not use a GPS. Others did.

Check In Out:

Rita and Roberta were there and helpful.

Overall:

Wonderful! There were 13 of us and there was plenty of room to spread out. We had both buildings, which allowed us to cook in both kitchens and have tons of room. The owners were very friendly and helpful.

Enjoyed Most:

Everything! We ate our meals outside under a covered patio, hung out in the morning for coffee on the covered terrace, stayed by the gorgeous pool during the day, and enjoyed the local wine that the owners made available to us for a great price.

Enjoyed Least:

The neighbor's dogs. They tended to bark late at night, but that was a minor issue.

Surrounding Area:

It was beautiful. The villa was situated on the side of a small hill and had a wonderful view. It was easy to get around the area, but a car was needed due to being out in the country and lack of walkable roads.

Nearby Events or Locales:

Subbiano was the nearest small town, which you needed a car to get to. It wasn't really far, just the main road wasn't really walkable.

Tips or Restaurants:

I would recommend bringing plastic cups for the pool and Jacuzzi area. Other than that, the owners outfitted the unit so well, that you really only need to bring your clothes and whatever you want to eat. Both properties had fully equipped kitchens. You would need to bring your own perishables, like spices, coffee, etc.

Directions:

The directions were great. We didn't have any issues finding the place.

Check In Out:

Mario's parents met us for check in and were very friendly. They showed us around and took the time to answer any questions. Mario met us for check out and was just as friendly as his parents and we were checked out very quickly. No issues at all.

Overall:

Excellent experience, enjoyed by all 12 travelers. Beautiful, clean, spacious Villa. Lots of room for everyone. Great common area for end of day stories, Terrace for morning coffee overlooking vineyards. Outdoor eating area overlooking valley and Subbiano. Beautiful pool and hot-tub was a great end of day relaxer under the stars. Made use of the outdoor pizza oven for one dinner and then warmth well into the cool fall evening. A great find!

Enjoyed Most:

Everything!

Enjoyed Least:

Nothing! A couple of the bathrooms/showers were a little small but very functional.

Surrounding Area:

Incredible views and scenery. Quiet.

Nearby Events or Locales:

Subbiano was the nearest small town. Not walkable. Need a car to get to and from the villa.

Tips or Restaurants:

Great casual Pizza/Pasta Restaurant just as you enter Subbiano. Very reasonable prices. For fine dining there is a Castle just 15 minutes from the Villa with a few accommodations and fabulous restaurant. We also had the owners cook 2 meals for the group. Excellent! Wonderful couple and fabulous food. Well worth the cost.

Directions:

Used a GPS but written directions were very good.

Overall:

Words cannot describe this villa. It was absolutely beautiful and we were all speechless. Being perched up on a hill surrounded by vineyards was breathtaking. Even after a week, we continued to pinch ourselves in disbelief.

Enjoyed Most:

Everything, but especially the grounds and views surrounding the villa. We also loved the fact that farmland surrounded the villa and often we would see farmers out and about in the distance. It felt like we were part of a 'real' Tuscan landscape.

Surrounding Area:

This part of Tuscany is off the beaten tourist track which added to the overall experience. The surrounding area of vineyards is beautiful and instills a kind of tranquility...just what you want when on holidays.

Nearby Events or Locales:

The nearest town was Subbiano. It is about 4km from the villa. We drove into town, however you could probably walk in if you wanted to. Arezzo is about a half hour drive from the villa, a great town to explore if you get the chance.

Tips or Restaurants:

We made use of the kitchen and had dinner under the outside terrace overlooking the stunning view most nights...however if you are after some restuarants, there are plenty in Arezzo's old town. The villa is well equipped and we had no additional requirements.

Directions:

All of the instructions in the voucher mailed to us were clear. We did use a GPS, which made getting to the villa from Florence quite easy.

Check In Out:

Mario, the owner of the villa, was delightful.

Overall:

Wonderful!! Beautiful house, spectacular scenery, wonderful local towns. Too much pasta, pizza, and Chianti!

Enjoyed Most:

More than expected. The villa was remarkably comfortable and I wish my home was as well built. The service of the property made it a true vacation, the outlook from the porch or the pool or the outdoor dining area were all memorable.

Enjoyed Least:

Hit by a heat wave in the second week and it was tough to cool the house down in the evening, but we were told by the locals that the heat was unusual. In the first week, the days were hot but evenings characterized by cool breezes. There were also dogs barking at night that bothered a few of us.

Surrounding Area:

The local town, Subbiano, was delightful with good restaurants, easy grocery shopping, and pastry shop we frequented each morning. Arezzo was 25 min away by car, and well worth spending time before going further afield.

Nearby Events or Locales:

Subianno was the nearest town, and definitely not walking distance. Definitely need a car to get to any sort of shopping, cafes, or restaurants. But the isolation was very relaxing!

Tips or Restaurants:

The manager of the house provides many essentials: clean linens mid-week, towels, basic necessities, as well as a good supply of white and red wine for 5 Euros a bottle.

Directions:

Although the directions appeared confusing, they made perfect sense once we were on the road... so trust them. However, a GPS App on your iPhone (I used Sygic for Italy) was very helpful in getting around, either driving to other towns or walking through cities.

Check In Out:

The property manager, Mario, was very welcoming and available to assist with any issues. Very easy process.

Map

This lovely villa located near Arezzo is closest to the village of Subbiano, a characteristic Tuscan town on the left bank of the Arno. Here you will find a Monday morning market, and if you're traveling in September you may be in time to join with the locals in their celebration of the grape festival, with product tasting and other traditional activities. The Museo dell Casa Contadina (farmhouse museum) is worth a visit, and you should also keep on the lookout for the remains of numerous water mills along the banks of the Arno. However, you'll probably spend most of your local hours exploring Arezzo, the charming town used as the backdrop for Roberto Benigni's "Life is Beautiful." Once one of the most important Etruscan cities, today Arezzo is beautiful for an array of architecture spanning centuries, from Etruscan ruins to the Roman amphitheatre and the Medici Fortress. The first weekend of each month brings a popular antique fair, while annually there is a festival called "Joust of the Saracens," where all of the citizens dress in medieval attire and knights representing each part of the city charge at a target representing a Saracen king. The area is also well-situated for day trips throughout Tuscany. Florence can be reached in 30 minutes by train from Arezzo; a train to Rome takes an hour and ten minutes.? Nearby Attractions: For wine lovers, the Terre di Arezzo wine trail, a more than 200 km long route crossing through the Province of Arezzo, is a fantastic way to become familiar with the wines of Tuscany. This trail passes through the growers of Chianti Colli Aretini DOCG, Cortona DOC, Colli dellEtruria Centrale DOC, Colli Etruria Centrale DOC and Vinsanto del Chianti DOC. Wine is not the only thing to be found along this trail! Near Cavriglia is the Fineschi Rose Garden with over 8,500 varieties of roses as well as the Cavriglia Park in the heart of the Chiantigiani mountains. Admire the Cennina Castle (Valdambra) and Gargonza Gastle (Monte S. Savino) along the route or any of the beautiful ancient churches and Etruscan and Roman remains. Florence airport: 85 km/53 miFlorence: 70 km/43.5 mi Cortona: 48 km/30 mi Caprese Michelangelo: 35 km/22 mi Arezzo: 18 km/11 mi Subbiano: 4 km/2.5 mi
