Enjoy the weather and scenery of Sicily in a superb active olive oil and wine producing estate overlooking stunning Mount Etna, the highest active volcano in Europe. The property is quiet and has breathtaking views of the surrounding countryside and all the amenities of a 21st century lifestyle. It is close to medieval villages, and ancient ruins; and, of course, an active volcano. It is an ideal villa for a group of friends or a large extended family and is equally suited for relaxing days around the pool, hiking along the many trails or sightseeing at the local destinations.
(6 hectares) It is surrounded by olive groves and vineyards, immediately around the villa are grassy expanses and a private garden of about 3,000 m2. The Manor house dates back to 1870, has three levels and smooth exterior walls. There is a tennis court that can be easily booked upon request. The private salt water pool, with panoramic views, is L-shaped, and measures 15 meters x 6 meters. There are numerous sun loungers. There are outdoor table and chairs for al fresco dining or simply enjoying the outdoors. Several paths lead down through the vineyards and the olive trees and to a historic park. There is plenty of parking (up to 12 cars) on the property.
The villa was completely refurbished in 2008 to a very high standard and features local materials such as lava stonework from Etna, hand-made terracotta floors and walnut shutters. All decorations, furnishings and fittings combine the best of modern design and antique furniture and paintings. It has both air-conditioning and heating so can be rented year round. The villa was lovely. It's rural setting afforded lots of peace and quiet.
The house was well laid out out, especially the bedrooms. The lemon trees and vineyard outside gave it so much character. It was perfect for 3 couples, each couple having the same equivalent of bedroom w/ensuite. The house is very roomy as well.
We enjoyed the fireplace in the "foyer" but found it difficult to sit around it since the seating arrangement was not conducive to more intimate gatherings.
Really enjoyed the rural aspect of it. The smaller towns in the area were also fun to visit and explore. Randazzo had a wonderful Sunday market. Castiglione De Sicilia was fun to walk thru and explore with its pastry shops and cafes that we could stop at. Luciano was able to set up a BBQ for us in the town nearby at a butcher shop. Lots of fun and nice to talk to some of the locals.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Moio Alcantara. probably walking distance but we didn't attempt it.
Tips or Restaurants:
Would highly recommend Ristorante da Antonio and Veneziano in Randazzo. Excellent food.
If coming in the cooler months, have the place start heating it prior to your arrival that day as it takes a full day to heat the house and you will be shivering for the first 12 hours. I believe the house is made of concrete or stone so once it heats up, it is very comfortable.
Come prepared with at least a day's worth of groceries, preferably from a larger town. The grocery stores in the area were very limited in their selections.
The directions given to us were good up to a point. We only found the place after hours of driving and luckily running into a local who spoke English. He could only guess that it was the villa we wanted and gave us fairly good directions. We felt very lucky that we found him.
Check In Out:
It went smoothly so no comments.
We got lost on arrival day. However, the key holder came to our rescue.
The villa is located less than four kilometers from Moio Alcantara, a small Sicilian commune where you’ll find a few shops and restaurants. Venture a little further and you’ll reach Castiglione di Sicilia, a beautiful town with a larger selection of shops, restaurants, and markets. The Cathedral Church is a definite must for site seeing while visiting as it dates back to the 18th century. Goat and pig farms surround this hilltop town so you wont have to look far to find delicious cheese and salamis. You’ll also be able to shop for handmade crafts like tapestries, embroideries, and pastries. When youre done exploring the town, be sure to visit the Mt Etna Craters and take a trip or two to the beach! Acitrezza/Faraglioni: 50 Km Taormina Mare: 35 Km Beaches: 35 Km Mt.
