The property is wonderful. The home is nicely decorated and the rooms are very spacious. We loved the big dining room and large sitting rooms for our big group. The grounds are huge and beautiful and nice for walking around. It's a wonderful location.
The scenic location and the big rooms. It was also great that from the upstairs bedrooms you cannot hear any noise going on on the first floor. It was a great place to gather with a big group of friends.
The beds are firm.
The beauty and the tranquility.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Gambasse Terme is close by (5 minute drive), but not necessarily walking distance. But there is a restaurant and coffee bar just across the street. San Gimignano was about 10-15 minute drive.
Tips or Restaurants:
The coffee maker takes the little one-use canisters! We brought ground coffee which we could not use.
Those who used GPS did well; Google maps was great when you put in the full address. Those who didn't had trouble finding it.
Check In Out:
Giulia was there when we arrived and very helpful. Since we brought the wrong kind of coffee she was able to sell us the little pods. But she was not there on our 3rd or 4th days, or when we checked out. We had some laundry in the washer that we could not get to since she was not there and the laundry door was locked. We had to find the caretaker to open it up. There was no one there at check out. We did not know what to do with the garbage.
Villa Gemma far exceeded my expectations! The site on the web does not do it justice. It was breathtaking from the moment you drive through the gates. The views were amazing and the staff were there to take care of your every need. The house and grounds were immaculate. My friends and I were overwhelmed.
The house and grounds. It was big and roomy. Decorated beautifully. The dining room was a favorite space - huge wooden table that was so fun to sit as a group and eat. The group loved the private pool and we spent a lot of time out there just relaxing in the sun. Many of the party used the hiking trails and the larger pool on the property for laps.
This is so hard! The showers did not drain well and were kind of small.
The villa was centrally located and we took many day trips from the house. It was centrally located to many places. There were also so many things to see and do within 10-15 minutes. We loved San Gimignano and Volterra. We visited several wineries that were nearby. We also LOVED the restaurant that was right across the street. It worked well for those long days when we did not want to cook in the house or drive very far. Milo was our waiter every night we went down - great stories, spoke English and made us feel very welcome.
Nearby Events or Locales:
San Gimignano was the nearest town at about 6 miles. One of our party walked it but it was tough because the roads are very narrow.
Tips or Restaurants:
Beach towels were a must - and we even left most of ours behind for future visitors. The villa has screens on all windows so there was no bug issue. They actually cleaned the villa 3 times during the week we were there. The kitchen had 2 refrigerators and was fully stocked. If we were to visit again we would have prepared more dinners in the house. We did eat all of our breakfasts and many lunches - meats and cheeses - in the villa. Several very nice villas within 10-15 minute drive from the villa. Rental cars were a must.
We did not use a GPS and we did have a little hiccup because we took the smaller country roads. If folks do not prep ahead of time a GPS would probably be a good idea.
Check In Out:
So easy. We had to pay the 1000 euro deposit in cash but they gave it back at checkout with no questions asked. They were waiting for us when we arrived and gave the group 4 bottles of wine to "get us started".
The nearest town to the villa is Gambassi Terme where you’ll find a few shops, restaurants, and markets. Just 10 kilometers away is the hilltop town of San Gimignano. As one of the most visited towns in Tuscany, it is known for its rich history dating back to the Etruscan times. It is full of life and things to do. Popular attractions include the famous towers, the 12th century Duomo, the People's Palace, and several museums dedicated to artwork and archeology. There are also plenty of wine tasting tours, art galleries, shops, and delicious restaurants. Numerous celebrations and gatherings are held every year including a music festival featuring theater, ballet, and opera performances, and a Medieval Harvest festival where the people of San Gimignano dress up as knights, play medieval games, and have tournaments. Of course, you'll also want to visit Florence and Siena during your trip.Pisa: 70 km Florence (airport): 65 km Versilia: 60 km Siena: 55 kmVolterra: 15 kmCastelfiorentino Railway Station: 15 km San Gimignano: 10 km Golf course: 10 km San Vivaldo: 6 kmGambassi Terme: 5 km
