Gaiole In Chianti Villa Rental Photos and Description

Max Beds: 7, Min Beds: 4, Double Beds: 2, Single Beds: 0, Baths: 3, Reference: 13488

In the heart of the Chianti Classico is where you'll find this house and it's location is not only to be appreciated because it's a short drive to town, but because it's set high on a hill with magnificent views outside of the surrounding vineyards and olive groves. This is definitely a place to stay during the warm months when you can spend most of your time outside.

(1000 m2)

Set high on a hill overlooking the surrounding hills and valleys, this house is in a secluded and quiet position. Within an enclosed garden there is a terrace furnished with a barbecue, pizza oven, and a table with chairs covered by an umbrella. There is a private swimming pool (7.5m x 5.5m) surrounded by sun loungers, an outdoor shower, and landscaped greenery. There is also a tennis court 50 meters away that is shared with another house nearby, which can be rented under the name Chiantigiani Maggiore. Both properties can be rented together under the name Le Sorelle Chiantigiane. An unpaved road of two kilometers leads to the property and parking is available within the grounds.

(200 m2)

Ground Floor: Upon entering the house, there is a living room with couches, chairs, a fireplace, and satellite TV. There is also a dining table with chairs and an open kitchen equipped with a cook-top, oven, microwave, toaster, American coffee maker, and dishwasher. There is one bedroom suite on this floor that has a sitting area with a sofa bed (suitable for one), a 160 cm queen-sized bed, and an ensuite bathroom with a sink, toilet, and shower. A guest bathroom has two sinks, a toilet, and a shower.

First Floor: A staircase of 10 steps leads up to the first floor. The first bedroom is situated in the loft and please be aware that it is only separated by a curtain. It has two 80 cm narrow single beds, most comfortable for children. The second bedroom has two 80 cm narrow single beds (which can be connected to form a queen-size bed upon prior request). There are two bathrooms on this floor, each with a sink, toilet, and shower.

Extra Services: The following are listed as an aid for trip planning; the services and prices are approximate and cannot be guaranteed by Rentvillas. All extra services are payable locally in cash.

Welcome Basket: Upon request

Cook Service: 40 Euros per person

Cooking Classes: 45 Euros per person

Firewood: 15 Euros per cubic meter

Please Note:

There is a study with a sofa bed that can serve as a bedroom upon prior request.

Pets are welcome at an additional cost of 50 Euros per week.

The outside area is wonderful, and is where you will live during the warm months. Be aware that during inclement periods, the living room can feel dark and cold.

Overall:

It was a wonderful experience, everything we had hoped for. It was cozy, but spacious enough for both couples to stay.

Enjoyed Most:

The solitude, easy driving distance to town, and a relaxing atmosphere when returning at the end of the day. The villa is set up so each couple easily had private space.

Enjoyed Least:

The mattresses were a little firm.

Surrounding Area:

The views driving around the area. Radda was a wonderful town with friendly shops and merchants. It was an easy location to use as a "home base" and to travel to various hill towns in the area.

Nearby Events or Locales:

Radda in Chianti was the nearest small town. For our group it was not within walking distance. But a drive of only about 10-15 minutes to the villa.

Tips or Restaurants:

Future renters should bring soap, shampoo, and paper towels. It is also helpful to locate the CO-OP (grocery) in town early in your arrival. We recommend OSTERIA DEL BORGO in Montepulciano and market FATTORIA DI LUIANO in Radda.

Directions:

Your directions were spot on! No problem finding the location, but yes, we did have a GPS which was very helpful when traveling around.

Check In Out:

Check in check out were very easy, simple, and the caretaker was very nice. Although we had a bit of a communication gap, we were able to figure it out together.

Overall:

Our experience was fantastic. The villa is in a beautiful setting and the villa itself surpassed by far my expectations. It is well furnished, the bedrooms are spacious and it had everything you might need, such as wireless, limited but good cable television (rarely watched) and a full kitchen. The beds were fine, a little thin and hard for American perfect tastes but standard European quality which took just a little getting used to. The living room was extremely comfortable and we loved the kitchen table and several nights we cooked pasta and drank the wine we bought in the town or drank morning coffee and ate pastries the next morning. My brother in law found out the non heated pool was a little cooler than he thought but we didn't go there to swim. And we loved the patio with the umbrella where we spent the majority of our time while at the house drinking wine and relaxing. The location is great, isolated enough to be on your own but near enough to Radda, 6 kms, to go into the wonderful little town for food, drinks or shopping (well stocked grocery store there) when we needed it. And for our purposes, the centralized location gave us access to everything we wanted to do throughout Chianti and the rest of Tuscany. I do recommend that you have some type of GPS system; we rented from the rental car company, to help navigate the most direct route through all the back roads we took--it was a lifesaver and timesaver. Once again, just a fantastic experience. My wife and I rented a villa 5 years ago, from another company, and were pleased, by this was beyond our expectations, and my sister and brother in law, first time visitors, where overwhelmed with the charm and comfort.

Enjoyed Most:

It was perfect for two couples. Plenty of room, bedrooms upstairs and downstairs for privacy, plenty of bathrooms (4), plenty of hot water, and a great common area.

Surrounding Area:

The closeness of Radda, a small town but with everything, only 6 km away, and several other vineyards and agritourismo locations within 15-20 minutes.

Nearby Events or Locales:

Radda is 6 km away on a small twisty road and has everything for a small town, charm, history, food, drink, grocery store, some tourist stuff by not much. Lecchi was 2 km away but is a very small town and not much to do. Could walk to Lecchi but not Rada.

Tips or Restaurants:

We brought a roll of toilet paper which wasn't necessary. We did go to a store to get essentials, water, soda, jui

  • 4 of 5

Overall:

We had a wonderful time, which was definitely dependent on the weather. When you can spend most of your time outside, this is a great villa.

Enjoyed Most:

The outside grounds. We spent almost all our time outside. When the weather is warm, the house is warm, too. The grounds are private and the view is very nice. The pool is great on a hot day.

Enjoyed Least:

When we first arrived, the weather had been very cool. The house was cold, since they turn off the heat for the season. Fires at night helped, but on the two rainy days, we had to get out and go somewhere. The house felt cool, dark, and too confining. I know they can't do anything about it, but there are no view windows. All the windows are small, so if you are stuck inside, you'd better like to read or be with a lively group of people.

Surrounding Area:

Radda is a charming town. It's not so big as to be overrun with tourists, but it has two nice stores full of fresh foods, a great wine shop, lots of good restaurants and everything we needed.

Nearby Events or Locales:

The nearest small town is Lecchi. It has almost no services. It is not within walking distance. Radda is the nearest town with services, and it's 6 km on a hilly, winding road. It's narrow. I'd be nervous even to ride a bike to Radda, though some people do.

Tips or Restaurants:

Bring everything you need. There was no soap supplied, and only a little toilet paper and paper towels that were left over. There was no dish washing detergent. Others left some pepper and olive oil, but you can't for certain count on any supplies.

Directions:

My GPS did not help. For one thing, there's usually no cellular service. This was our second year, so I knew how to find the villa after I entered the dirt road.

Check In Out:

The house manager doesn't speak nor understand any English. Use Google translator to write out anything you might want to say to him, such as the date and time you plan to leave. Write out the phrase "May we please have some firewood?" in Italian. Each time, he brings just enough for one night's fire, so if it's chilly, you might want to also write out "Please bring us firewood every day." Sometimes you won't see him for 2-3 days. If you want firewood then, you're out of luck.

Overall:

This was our second time here. Last year, the weather was great, so we virtually lived outside, which is the best part of this property. This year, it was quite cool, even cold in the evenings. The inside is rather dark, and it was cold. When we were able to find the house manager and get wood for a fire, that helped a lot.

Enjoyed Most:

The outside terraces, pool, view and seclusion.

Enjoyed Least:

The dark, small living room. Editor's Note: The owner will purchase new lights/lamps for the living room.

Surrounding Area:

We love the town of Radda. This year we did far less exploring of distant towns and spent several delightful days in Radda.

Nearby Events or Locales:

Lecchi is nearest, but there is almost nothing there. It is far to long to walk.

Tips or Restaurants:

I wish there were basics provided, like toilet paper, paper towels, etc. We knew this time to stop first in Radda to get everything we needed.

Directions:

We remembered from our trip last year. It's hard to find. last year we had to ask a neighbor.

Check In Out:

Check in and check out were fine. We had to leave two days early, and the house manager speaks no English. Fortunately, when we arrived, we had cell access (which occurs less than half the time). I was able to get Google Translate to tell him the day we had to leave.

Overall:

It was a good experience. We used the villa as our base for day trips, and it was centrally located. Nestled among the vineyards, it was quintessential Tuscany.

Enjoyed Most:

The central location to all the major Tuscan sites worked well. Size was perfect for 2 couples. It was great to have access to a clothes washer. The layout of the villa was great, with a separate upstairs, and multiple bathrooms. We also enjoyed the tennis court. The pool looked nice, but it was a little cool. We loved the cooking class we set up. Our chef Maria Rosa, and her helper Lina, were great!

Enjoyed Least:

There was a lack of good lighting in the kitchen and living room and it was difficult to see to cook or read at night. Bathroom shower heads need replacing and the toilet had a tendency to run. We would have liked to have had a dryer.

Surrounding Area:

The vineyards and small villages were beautiful, and scenery was spectacular.

Nearby Events or Locales:

Radda in Chianti was a quaint town that had everything we needed. It was about a 15-minute drive away, too far to walk.

Tips or Restaurants:

You will have to purchase toilet paper, paper towels, bath soap and bottled water upon arrival. Also, internet access is provided through a "TIM" mobile access device so be sure your device can accept one. Ristorante Malborghetto in the next town, Lecci, was delicious.

Directions:

We did have a GPS, and it was extremely helpful, although it could not accept the exact coordinates, but did get us close. We asked a neighbor, and she directed us the last short distance to the villa.

Check In Out:

The caretaker was very nice and helpful, but did not speak any English. We knew enough Italian to get the major points, and he was good at showing us what we needed to know.

Overall:

This is a great place to stay in Tuscany. I can't imagine better.

Enjoyed Most:

The outside grounds, with the private pool and sunny patio overlooking the hills and a distant castle. We ate all our meals on this patio.

Enjoyed Least:

It's a bit dark inside. If the weather had been poor, I think the living/dining room/kitchen would be a bit claustrophic.

Surrounding Area:

Ideally situated between Siena and Florence. All the hill towns we wanted to visit were at most 1 1/2 hours away. Siena is only a half hour away. Nearby Radda was a surprisingly charming, friendly town that had everything we needed in restaurants, shopping and even a wine shop.

Nearby Events or Locales:

Lecchi is the closest town, though it had almost nothing there. It is much too far to walk to a town.

Tips or Restaurants:

Stop on the way and get any supplies you may want. There was no soap, no dishwasher soap, no napkins. There were a few spices, but I suspect that they supply nothing, and we just had whatever was left over from prior renters.

Check In Out:

The man who checked us in and out spoke no English. So we were not able to get an appointment to taste at the winery next door as is offered in the guest book. But we wanted to leave early on our last day, and we were able to communicate it, and he was right on time as requested.

Map

The property is located six kilometers from the characteristic medieval village of Radda in Chianti. Centered around the 14th century church of San Nicolo and the Palazzo Pretorio, Radda in Chianti is situated on a hill and features shops, restaurants, markets, banks, and a post office. The property is also in an excellent location for visiting Siena and San Gimignano, both of which are about a half hour drive away. Siena is a wonderfully preserved example of the Tuscan Middle Ages, and a treasure trove of gothic palaces, churches, and museums. It's also well known for its exiting bi-annual bareback horse races, the Palio, held once in July and once in August. San Gimignano is one of the most visited towns in Tuscany and is known for its rich history dating back to the Etruscan times. Popular attractions include the famous towers, the 12th century Duomo, the People's Palace, and several museums dedicated to artwork and archeology. There are also plenty of wine tasting tours, art galleries, shops, and delicious restaurants. It's also possible to take day trips to Volterra and Florence.
