Lovely!...

  • 5 of 5

Overall:

Lovely!

Enjoyed Most:

Quiet. Could walk to a small market and the scenic old village.

Enjoyed Least:

A certain amount of traffic from others who were staying within the gates.

Surrounding Area:

Access by car, bus, or rail to a number of hill towns.

Nearby Events or Locales:

It was in essence within the small town. Very convenient.

Tips or Restaurants:

Layers in regards to clothing! I enjoyed cooking at the villa. The younger set brought in pizza frequently.

Directions:

I wasn't driving, so I don't know. We did not have a GPS. Perhaps a map of the area around San Barberino would be nice to have.

Check In Out:

Sonia is lovely.

Overall:

We had a wonderful 2 weeks with friends and family and would love to return again. This vacation was among the best ever.

Enjoyed Most:

The villa is configured so that there are two separate areas for 2 families with shared kitchen and living room. We could eat out on the terrace and had a fabulous view. It was very easy to walk into the village for groceries, restaurants, the bus stop, etc.

Enjoyed Least:

The three main villas each have their own terrace but they share a common area so it is not totally private space. However, all the guests were friendly and respectful of one another.

Surrounding Area:

Sonia, the property manager, was very friendly and helpful. After making arrangements with her, we drove to the winery associated with the villa and took a peaceful country walk near the winery. We also took day trips by car, bus or train to neighboring hill towns as well as Florence, Cinque Terre, and Assisi.

Nearby Events or Locales:

The villa is perfectly situated in San Barberino Val d'Elsa so we walked into the village. Used our car to go to Tavernelle for a larger grocery store and cell phone shop 2 km away.

Tips or Restaurants:

The two restaurants by the church were good and had outside seating with a terrific view.

Directions:

GPS is very helpful. My iPad mini, with an ATT monthly contract and data roaming turned off, was still helpful because we could see where we were on its map.

Check In Out:

The second week, I had rented 1 and 5 to accommodate additional family members. Their check-in was delayed but, in the end, Sonia made 2 available which was fantastic and convenient for our gathering. 5 is smaller than 1 but the two villas are furnished and renovated in an identical way.

Overall:

Terrific! A truly lovely spot and so well cared for.

Enjoyed Most:

The setting, view and openness of the kitchen and living area. Perfect for large groups!

Surrounding Area:

The charm of the village and shop owners, the views and proximity to other places, including Florence.

Nearby Events or Locales:

Yes, just up the hill.

Tips or Restaurants:

Knives if you like to cook; mosquito spray if you come during the summer and perhaps spices.

Directions:

We found it just fine.

Check In Out:

Everything was great, including check in and check out. Truly a wonderful experience all around!

Surrounding Area:

Nearby Events or Locales:

Marco's new restaurant, don't know name of restaurant, is wonderful. Things I would bring include kitchen knives, kitchen towels.

Directions:

They were perfect, actually.

Check In Out:

No, couldn't be easier.

Barberino Val d'Elsa was within easy walking distance.

Overall:

We had a wonderful week at San Barberino 1. Very relaxing and pleasant stay. Great facilities, and Cecile, the property manager, is fantastic. Helped us with everything we needed during the week.

Enjoyed Most:

The ambiance and the view.

Enjoyed Least:

The upstairs bedrooms could do with a fan as it can get warm.

Surrounding Area:

Everything. The village is picturesque and perfect. The more we explored the more we found. Shops, small supermarkets, and restaurants. The village is small enough to easily stroll through but large enough to have some great places to eat and cute shops. Lots of surrounding villages to explore and Florence and Siena both within easy reach.

Nearby Events or Locales:

The villa is on the edge of San Barberino--it's a 2-minute stroll to the centre of the old town.

Directions:

We had a GPS so finding the property was no problem.

Map

The property is located in the town of Barberino Val d'Elsa where there are shops, restaurants, a great pizzeria, a market, a bank, and a post office. Dating back to the Middle Ages, Barberino Val d'Elsa marks the midway point between Siena and Florence. The village has an ancient church, castle, chapel, and beautiful views of the olive groves and vineyards that make up much of the Chianti Classico region. San Gimignano, a town you can see from the farmhouse, is a great place to go for a day trip. As one of the most visited towns in Tuscany, it is known for its rich history dating back to the Etruscan times. It is full of life and things to do. Popular attractions include the famous towers, the 12th century Duomo, the People's Palace, and several museums dedicated to artwork and archeology. There are also plenty of wine tasting tours, art galleries, shops, and delicious restaurants. Numerous celebrations and gatherings are held every year including a music festival featuring theater, ballet, and opera performances, and a Medieval Harvest festival where the people of San Gimignano dress up as knights, play medieval games, and have tournaments. Of course, you'll also want to visit Florence and Siena during your trip and a train station in Certaldo, which is only 15 minutes away from the property, can get you there easily and conveniently. Nearby Attractions: Barberino Val d'Elsa (markets, shops, restaurants, pizzeria, bank, post office, ancient church, castle, chapel), Certaldo (train station), San Gimginano (towers, Duomo, People's Palace, museums, wine tasting, shops, restaurants, annual festivals), Florence, Siena Volterra: 45 km/28 mi Siena: 40 km/25 mi Florence: 35 km/22 mi Certaldo: 25 km15.5 mi San Gimignano: 18 km/11 mi
