Overall:

Staying at Villa Belvedere was everything we expected and more! The house was wonderful, and I think the pictures on the web site do not even do it justice. Our check in and out process was wonderful--the woman who came to the house to assist with the process was full of information about the area, and extremely helpful with directions, suggestions, and overall advice. The beds were really comfortable, and the AC units kept us happy. We used the pool every day we were there.

Enjoyed Most:

Hard to specify. The pool was a huge highlight, with plenty of shaded areas under the umbrellas and the cabana. The rooms were all spacious and clean.

Enjoyed Least:

The kitchen was small (but we had a cook, so we did not have to use it too much!).

Surrounding Area:

We had a wonderful time visiting a local vineyard and olive grove (Castello Monte Vibiano Vecchio) visiting a castle in the area, enjoying the views of the sunflowers.

Nearby Events or Locales:

Agello was within walking distance, however they did not have many supplies. We loved the view of Agello from the house (we have lots of pictures).

Tips or Restaurants:

The pizzerias at the lake were good.

Directions:

We did use a GPS, but we found the house without it.

Check In Out:

The young woman who checked us in and out was great. She spoke English very clearly, and had a great knowledge of the local area. She continued to supply information via email while we where there, on where to find a grocery store, where to tour a winery, and actually took some of our group to a local olive grove. She was very good at communicating with us.

Overall:

It was amazing. I loved everything about it.

Enjoyed Most:

The pool was my favorite place to be, especially in the hot afternoons. The view from the pool was simply amazing.

Surrounding Area:

The beauty.

Nearby Events or Locales:

Agello was closest. I think it was a bit of a walk, but possible. I never walked.

Tips or Restaurants:

Bug spray because there are a lot of mosquitos at night.

Overall:

We just had a marvelous time at the villa. It was a stunning building and the rooms were great. It was all very comfortable and the pool and cabana were especially fabulous. We had 4 days straight of 100 degree heat, so the air conditioning and pool were incredible.

Enjoyed Most:

The view. The pool. The cook.

Enjoyed Least:

The "farm" smell from the working farm. But, we just joked about it and knew that we were in a beautiful, but rural, area.

Surrounding Area:

The sunflower fields were such a surprise. We just missed the full-field blooms, but it was lovely. It was easy to get to many of the local towns and the views everywhere were just amazing.

Nearby Events or Locales:

Agello is a tiny local town about 1 mile away - all uphill! While my husband did walk up one day, it was really unsafe to do so on the tiny, narrow roadway. And, it really was all uphill, so you have to be in good shape to make the trek.

Tips or Restaurants:

Definitely bring mosquito repellent. We forgot ours and needed calamine lotion from the local pharmacy. If you are coming in the summer, you need lots of water. And, if you need ice, bring your own ice trays! The local restaurants recommended were fun, but having the cook was brilliant!

Directions:

Directions were really challenging, since there are few signs. We did rent an international GPS, but it often totally conflicted with the directions. We did find our way and then got the hang of it. More landmarks and clearer directions when you get off the exit would have helped.

Check In Out:

Martina, our hostess, could not have been more wonderful. She was welcoming, charming, and so kind. She is a local, so she knew exactly the winery we should visit and arranged for a tour of an olive orchard with a local family that was wonderful.

Map

The property is located one kilometer away from the medieval village of Agello. Although small, Agello has shops, a market, a pharmacy, and a gas station. Lake Trasimeno is a short drive away and here you can play water sports, dine at local restaurants and pizzerias, and browse all the charming shops. The highlight town nearby is Perugia, less than a 20 minute drive away. From the first settlement of Umbrians, Etrucscans, and Romans, Perugia has been a place of major importance. Its high position over the Tiber Valley puts it in a key military position, which is why it has been the site of many political and military struggles throughout history. Today it remains a spot of rich historical traditions and architecture spanning centuries. Just a few examples: ancient walls from the original Etruscan city; a 12th century fountain; the 14th century Palazzo dei Priori; and the 15th century Cathedral of San Lorenzo. The list goes on and on. Any visit to Perugia should also include a stroll along the Corso Vannucci. Suffice to say you'll never run out of things to see here! Likewise, nearby Assisi is a place rich in a different kind of history, as it is the birthplace of both St. Francis and St. Clare. You can visit the 13th century basilica housing the body of St. Francis, filled with magnificent frescoes by Giotto. There are also other smaller churches, chapels, and religious buildings—including the body of St. Clare, still on view. Day trips to Siena and Florence are also perfectly feasible.
