It is surrounded by gardens featuring cypress trees, olive trees, lavender, and many other different flowers. Overall:

This is a lovely traditional house in a small Provencal village. It is beautifully appointed and charming.

Enjoyed Most:

Sitting by the pool in the evening watching the martins dip and dive across the sky. Seeing more cats than people on our evening walks of the village. Winding through streets that are so small they really shouldn't be called streets. Few tourists - in direct contrast to other Provencal towns.

Enjoyed Least:

Can't think of a thing that wasn't wonderful.

Surrounding Area:

What's not to like about Provence - hill top towns, market days, churches, lavendar and rose? The villa is located to the far west of the Luberon, so excursions to eastern villages like Bonnieux or Loumarin take 30-45 minutes.

Nearby Events or Locales:

The villa is in Cabrieres d'Avignon, which is tiny. It has 3 stores and a great restaurant. The next closest village is Gordes, which seems like a metropolis in comparison.

Tips or Restaurants:

Small towns don't open stores on Sundays in Provence, so make sure your stock up on supplies on the Saturday you arrive, or be prepared to head to a larger town before 1:00 pm on Sunday.

Directions:

A GPS is always helpful in the countryside, but a good road map and reading signs will work as well.

Overall:

Very positive! Lovely home, great weather, with a bit of air conditioning available if it got extra hot. Quiet and peaceful, with good basic swimming pool. All basic amenities within an easy walk. Lovely trails to hike/run nearby.

Enjoyed Most:

Location was a very good thing about the property.

Enjoyed Least:

A few very small things: door latches were "quaint" but rather noisy to operate, annoying when others are sleeping. Knives were a bit dull... Hedge near the pool was a bit too tall, putting too much of the pool in the shade. But you can tell this is very nit-picky stuff.

Surrounding Area:

Wilderness trails on foot. We walked to Gordes twice, ran to Langes, many other places. Drove to many (5? could have done 10?) lovely villages for markets or dinner.

Nearby Events or Locales:

We were basically right in Cabriere d'Avignon, a small town, 100 meters from groceries and butcher and baker. Lagnes was another walkable small town, but we only walked ran there for exercise, not for purchases.

Tips or Restaurants:

Lovely restaurant in Isle sur la Sorgue called Le Vivier ("the pool"). In an odd location from the entry, but right on the river water. We ate there twice.

Directions:

Finding the property is easy. Finding the owner's place (which is where we were told to go first) was slightly harder. Understanding the one way streets is a bit tricky the first day.

Check In Out:

M. Truc doesn't speak much (or any?) English (which was okay as we have enough French) but he is a delightful man, very helpful. All the villagers are pretty friendly. There is a parking area in the property, but it's gated and rather tight, even with a small car, and a nuisance to use on regular basis. More parking clarity would be useful.

Overall:

Maison Starlette was a dream come true! It was more beautiful than the pictures could portray. Mr. Truc, the owner, is a very kind and wonderful man. Although he speaks no English, we were able to understand each other with my rusty French!

Enjoyed Most:

The town, with its little grocery, bakery, and butcher was perfect and met all of our needs. The location was very convenient and an easy drive to other local towns. We also loved the markets at Coustellet and L'Isle sur la Sorgue. The house and the garden were beautiful!

Surrounding Area:

The beauty and quiet of a little village, its location, and the friendly people.

Nearby Events or Locales:

The nearest small town was our village, Cabrieres d'Avignon, with easy walking to all of our needs.

Tips or Restaurants:

You can't get a bad meal in France! The local restaurant, Le Vieux Bistro, was very good, and open for dinner. My only suggestion is to just enjoy yourself!

Directions:

It was a little confusing finding the property from the written directions. We should have programmed it in to the GPS as soon as we left the rental car agency in Avignon.

Check In Out:

It was all very quick and easy.

Overall:

Very nice property. Great location. We enjoyed our time and would recommend the property.

Enjoyed Most:

The location (town) is great and the pool was excellent. The rest of the house was well-appointed and well-presented.

Surrounding Area:

The town of Cabrieres d'Avignon is great. Excellent place to base yourself in the Luberon/greater Avignon area.

Nearby Events or Locales:

House is in Cabrieres d'Avignon, which is great.

Tips or Restaurants:

The local restaurant Le Vieux Bistrot is great.

Directions:

All OK from our perspective.

Check In Out:

None - very easy and straightforward (if you have a little French)

Overall:

Exactly what we had hoped for, quiet village, authentic Provence experience. Children enjoyed the pool, although it was a bit cold for the adults.

Enjoyed Most:

Outdoor area with swimming pool and the outdoor table under the vines. Felt very relaxing to sit outside and enjoy Provence produce in the sunshine. The property was also very well equipped, from kitchen to laundry - which was great with three small children that all eat a lot and create a lot of washing!

Enjoyed Least:

Lack of DVD player; would have be good to have one since French TV is a bit limiting for overseas visitors with minimal French.

Surrounding Area:

Everything - Provençal markets, small towns, wineries, Roman sites. Great variety and lots to do. We look forward to returning.

Nearby Events or Locales:

The house is in the middle of Cabrieres d'Avignon - great epicerie, boulangerie, and boucherie all within a short walk. We also enjoyed the local village restaurant.

Tips or Restaurants:

Don't need to bring anything, all provided as the house is very well-equipped.

Directions:

Directions to the property were great, we had a GPS but didn't really need to use it to find the check in agent or the property.

Check In Out:

The check in agent does not speak any English. This was fine for us as we understand more French than we can speak. However, may be a bit limiting for non-French-speaking visitors.

Overall:

Maison Starlette was fantastic! It was just as good as the pictures, if not better.

Enjoyed Most:

It was clean, charming and well-appointed. The village is absolutely

fantastic! And the kids could walk to the boulangerie every morning for our breakfast. The owner was kind as could be although he spoke no English.

Surrounding Area:

It was well-located, making it easy to travel to all kinds of great day trips.

Nearby Events or Locales:

It's located in the village of Cabrieres d'Avignon.

Map

The property is located in the village of Cabrieres d'Avignon and is 200 meters from shops, restaurants, and markets. Cabrieres is a pleasant village great for leisurely strolls where you're sure to pass ancient houses dating back to the 17th and 18th centuries. On your walk you'll also see the Wall of Plague, which was built to protect the people from the Comtat of the Big Plague of Marseille of 1720. A short drive from the house will take you to Gordes, a hilltop village that was a stronghold of resistance during WWII. Though much of the village was destroyed, its inhabitants have carefully restored each item to its former glory. Today, it is one of the most popular villages in Provence, with a wonderful castle, arcaded streets, museums, and musical concerts. Of course there are also all the necessary shops, as well as some delicious restaurants! A train station is located in Avignon should you want to travel a bit further without having to worry about driving. Nearby Attractions: shops, restaurants, markets, Gordes (castle, museums, live performances, shops, restaurants), Isle sur la Sorgue, Cavaillon, Bonnieux, Avignon (train station). Avignon: 32 km/20 mi Bonnieux: 18 km/11 mi Cavaillon: 13 km/8 mi Isle sur la Sorgue: 10 km/6 mi Gordes: 6.5 km/4 mi
