We have two young children and truly enjoy all of the time we spend at Summerset Cottage. As active cyclists, the South Haven area provides us with many miles of beautiful roads. There are myriads of activities available in the area for children. Our kids especially love the dune buggy ride in Saugatuck.
The Owner purchased this house in 2011
The beaches in Southwest Michigan are truly unique. The views of the sunset are spectacular. The beautiful white sand beaches are perfect for lounging, jogging or playing with the kids. This property is located about 2 hours from Chicago but has a truly rural feel. It is close enough to town to provide plenty of stimulation but isolated enough to really feel as if you are getting away from it all.
South Haven is four miles away for any shopping or socializing needs you may have. We love to have cocktails in the hot tub while watching the sunset. The kids always look forward to s'mores in the firepit after a busy day at the beach.
My family and I just returned from a week at Summerset and WOW ! Pictures make it look amazing and it's
all that and MORE !! So relaxing. Sunsets, sounds of waves, watching storms across the water! The house is furnished and equipped with great care and high quality finishes, fixtures and furnishings. Well stocked kitchen, games and entertainment. It's SO convenient to all things Saugatuck and South Haven, a quick drive to both places and you are in the heart of amazing shopping, sights, restaurants, etc but Summerset is at it's heart a private and amazing place to relax, unwind and enjoy a fire atop a bluff overlooking the lake or the hot tub with a view. Book this house, you will be very pleased ! Lake Michigan Lakefront lodging at it’s finest !
We stayed at Summerset Cottage Easter week and had a wonderful time! The view from the house is spectacular. We thoroughly enjoyed watched the storms come in over the lake from the living room and master bedroom and listening to the waves crashing on the lakeshore while enjoying a soak in the outdoor hot tub. The kitchen had everything we needed to make several meals and we enjoyed playing board games around the big dining room table. Easter Sunday turned into a beautiful day and we were able to take long walk along the lakeshore. We can't wait to return in warmer months!
I've stayed at several VRBO's (many in south Michigan) and this is by far the nicest place I've stayed. My boyfriend and I needed a break from the city. The place was extremely clean and had breathtaking views. The place was well equipped with everything we needed. It had modern amenities and an awesome hot tub that overlooks lake Michigan. We were so well rested and relaxed while we were there, we didn't want to leave. I wish we could have stayed longer. Highly recommend!
I stayed at Summerset Cottage for a weekend gettaway with my wife and family. The house was clean, and well maintained, the owner attentive and courteous. The million dollar view and sunsets were absolutely gorgeous. The kitchen was stocked with more utensils than my own (waffle Iron, blender, electric griddle, cocktail shaker, many types of wine glasses). The game room in the basement was a kids fantasy, with foosball table, pool table, all types of games, and a Wii, for all of their video games. Oh, and did I mention the hot tub.
This home exceeded all our expectations and I would recommend it to anyone. it is located in a lovely quiet neighborhood between South Haven and Saugatuck. We have traveled to this region many times, and have stayed in many different rentals. Most of the homes seem to be decorated with furniture, dishes, silverware, utensils, etc, that look like they are second hand from the 1970's. Summerset Cottage looks like it was furnished by a professional decorator. I would go back, and I highly recommend it.
When we were there in Aug 2015, there was literally no beach. the lake went right up to the rocks and there was no place to sit or walk. The pictures above are from an earlier time, and are NOT representative of the way the beach was in Aug 2015. Who knows what it will be in the future? But when we were there it was a house with no beach access.
The stairs to the non existent beach were actually falling apart, and the owner suggested in email that we use not use them. He then hired a team to replace them, and the team totally tore out the bottom portion so the lake was unreachable. So for 4 days we had workers in the yard with power tools and no lake access until the work was done.
When we arrived, the place was very dirty - worst I have ever seen at a rental. The sheets in the master bedroom had hair and other unknown dirty things on them, and the microwave had a pasta explosion on it. The floors had food everywhere. The owner offered to send cleaners the next day, but we did not want to live in filth for a day so we washed the sheets, vacuumed, and cleaned the kitchen ourselves. He at least refunded us the cleaning fee.
The owner was unwilling to offer us any reasonable compensation for the problems. This was by far the worst house we have rented in 12 years of MI lakefront rentals.
We stayed at Summerset Cottage in Oct 2013. The house is simply beautiful. Extremely nicely decorated and great layout. We loved the screened in porch to sit outside and watch the sunset over the Lake. Our 2 kids (ages 4 and 2) had a great time. They loved the games room and enjoyed walking down the steps to the quiet beach. Lake Michigan got named "the quiet ocean" and they could not spend enough time there. We all had a really relaxing vacation and it was a great memory for my 40th birthday.
The house is in a great location for day trips north and south. The kids also enjoyed riding their bikes around the circular road near the house.
We tend to have high expectations when staying somewhere and this property exceeded them. Also, this was a true pet free house which for someone with extreme allergies was really appreciated.
Thank you for letting us enjoy your lovely house.
Take a sunset cruise out of Saugatuck harbor or ride the famous dune buggies. You can pick your own berries or shop the specialty boutiques in South Haven. There is plenty to do in the area.
