Santa Fe now an international destination venue. Unique, art, science, and literary culture, music, food, landscape, history, architecture, wilderness, Indian pueblos, climate. It all comes together here.
Long time Santa Fe resident owners live on the adjacent hillside property and are a friendly social and informational resource to renters.
We are an active mature and sophisticated couple who have traveled widely in the world's mountain regions and interesting cities. We've been in Santa Fe more than forty years. It's the finest place we know and we love it.
David & Bettina purchased this house in 1993
It was one of our family's two residence for many years, used by friends and our children who now have places of their own. We live on the adjacent hillside property and are happy to share it with other sojourners.
Santa Fe has become an international cultural destination venue. Unique art, science, and literary traditions, music, food, landscape, history, architecture, wilderness, Indian pueblos, climate. It all comes together here. Really.
My husband and I stayed here for over 6 weeks while renovating our home in Santa Fe. It couldn't have suited us better. The house is private, spacious, quiet, warm, and had everything we needed, and more. It is set off from the road and has a large yard with trees in front and back. Not glitzy or sparkly, this house is comfortable and welcoming. We enjoyed the fireplace in the main bedroom as well as the wood stove downstairs on wintry nights (though the main heat system worked fine too). The kitchen is small, but more than adequate for us. Coffee maker and basic cooking ingredients and new microwave and some beautiful plates and cups are all available. The large rustic dining table could seat many guests if one wanted to entertain a group. There is a small private bedroom that served me well as an office/writing room. The owners live nearby and went out of their way to be helpful in all sorts of ways. At the same time, we had as much privacy as we wanted. People looking for a dog-friendly rental will love this house. Our two dogs couldn't have been happier--both indoors as well as outside; the fenced-in area kept them safe and secure. No complaints about this wonderful find. I highly recommend it to all.
We spent three months in David and Bettina’s classic Santa Fe adobe and thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. The house is on a quiet road on the historic East Side, a short drive to the Plaza. Canyon Road is within walking distance. The mountain views from the living room are spectacular. We enjoyed the pretty, private patio, where we had many meals during warm weather.
The master bedroom is especially spacious, with a desk, couch, and fireplace. We watched the stars from the roof terrace off the master bath. The Tempurpedic bed is a plus, especially appreciated after hikes in the mountains.
We used the second small bedroom as an office. A desk and a rolling office chair made it work perfectly. We were able to set up our laptops and take care of business. This room has a small single bed and its own bathroom; it would be good for a child or single adult.
The kitchen is small, but we cooked many simple, enjoyable meals here: pasta, omelets, stir fries, etc. The flight of stairs up to the master bedroom might be an issue for someone with mobility problems, but for us, it was just a way to get a little exercise.
David and Bettina are gracious hosts. They responded quickly to any questions we had and went out of their way to make us feel welcome. At the same time, they allowed us privacy. David and Bettina are long-time Santa Fe residents, so they were a wealth of information about the city.
We stayed in this remarkable home for 6 weeks and loved every minute! We enjoyed watching the gorgeous sunrise from the upper balcony and the large living room window opens onto a beautiful view of the Sangre de Cristos. It is situated in the perfect location for exploring Canyon Road and is walking distance to many of the Dale Ball trails.
This wonderful classic adobe features an enclosed courtyard with a BBQ, dining table and sitting area perfect for enjoying Santa Fe's warm summer evenings. Overlooking this patio is a charming wisteria covered arbor which we were lucky to see come into bloom.
The house description notes a "galley style pocket kitchen" which sounds small but between the BBQ and the kitchen we were easily able to create lovely meals and even entertain 6 people.
The mid-level room was an ideal office space complete with writing /computer desk and printer...affording privacy and it's own great views. We enjoyed meeting the owners and any question that arose was handled immediately. We were sad to leave and look forward to returning.
My visit was 10 weeks long and my only regret is that it was not longer. I loved both the house and the landlords. It is an older and interestingly quirky property but very clean and well-maintained . When something did go wrong the landlords were quick (often a matter of minutes) to help. They live on the same property and manage to be available but not the least intrusive. I found the house to be exactly as described and pictured, well-supplied with the things I needed, and charmingly decorated with paintings, antiques, and other unique touches.
The location was perfect. It was easy to get to downtown (bus, car, or a long walk) but out of town enough that I had the quiet and views that I wanted. One can access excellent walking trails accessible just by stepping out the door. Santa Fe's charms are justifiably famous and when not working, I (and visiting family) found much to enjoy. We took in museums, pueblos, petroglyph walks, concerts, and much more.
I would happily recommend this house to friends or relatives. I think my only caution is that it is not at all handicapped accessible. The three main rooms are on different levels and even the front gate requires mounting stairs. It suited me (aged 66 and wanting quiet and space to write) perfectly but might not be right for someone with physical challenges.
