Windymile Cabin offers a 2 bedroom private setting 6 miles from The Va Horse Center, and 10 miles to downtown Lexington.
Ideal for Boaters and Kayakers, as it is five minutes to the Goshen Pass Launch.
Enjoy views from the front patio of this newly constructed Lexington VA rental cabin. Pet friendly, with a two acre fenced yard.
Sit with your friends and Watch the magnificent sunset from the fire ring. As the charcoal grill gets going and the stars begin to twinkle, you'll realize just how much you've been needing this.
The cabin offers privacy with it's two bedrooms separated by it's length-one at each end, off of a central hallway.
The Kitchen and Living room combo adjoin the patio and front yard with no curbs or steps. This coupled with the picnic bench and fire ring draws you outdoors. Especially in the cold weather. You gather with your friends around the fire, and reconnect. It is one of those places where you just don't want to sit inside!
The wide doors and open spaces lend themselves to seniors, or others with special needs. A great place for a honeymoon, or a wedding reception.

My wife and I have lived in the area since 1985. She teaches school, and I am a builder. We live on site. We are avid hiking biking outdoor enthusiasts that would be happy to help you choose your outings while visiting.
David Johnston purchased this cabin in 2010
I built this Lexington Virginia Cabin in 2010 due to the quiet setting, and the proximity to The Goshen Wildlife management area. The recreational opportunities are without compare. Its proximity to Lexington VA and The VA Horse Center make it an ideal location for a Vacation Destination in the Shenandoah Valley of VA
The views of the Blue Ridge Mountains and southern Shenandoah Valley in this quiet setting are without equal. It is just two minutes to Goshen Pass, with its swimming, fishing, hiking, and canoeing. It is 6 miles to the Horse center, with no stop lights!
Rented this cabin for Parent's Weekend at VMI. Just far enough out of town (about 9mi). It's a twisty road with few guardrails so you should leave enough time to drive slow, but get your cadet back to Barracks in time Watch for deer! The scenery on way to cabin is beautiful!
Morning coffee with the cows staring over the fence. Very peaceful. We didn't turn the heat on once and slept with all the windows open - let in the fresh crisp Fall air.
Despite the fact that it rained 3 of the 4 nights we were there, the long gravel driveway is very well maintained and was still easily manageable with a sedan (although I think you might need a 4x4 depending on weather in winter months!).
The kitchen is adequately stocked with dishes/pots to cook meals - all the cabinets and drawers and appliances were very clean. There are polished concrete floors throughout (except LR seating area has a wall-to-wall section of new carpeting) that are quite nice and make for easy clean up. Due to the amount of weather we had while there we had rolled up a large area rug to avoid getting it dirty carrying things in/out from car - other small area rugs/door mats made it easy to shake out and keep clean.
I am usually extremely leery about renting a property that allows dogs, however, the furniture and bedrooms had no signs of pets other than a couple small scratches in woodwork. Lack of heavy, wall to wall carpeting helps keep the cabin pet odor free too.
The covered porch on the front was great for the rainy days. It overhangs enough that you can keep the windows open and sit outside without getting wet.
When the sun finally did shine (on our last day!) the views go for miles and it's really relaxing to sit outside or walk the property. There is no cable or internet, but it was very nice to unplug from the world. If you cannot go without, you could always check in with news on your phone - but, a friend visiting us who has AT&T could not get service, however, we have Verizon and were fine with phone and data service. Vacation is supposed to be about "getting away", right?! They do have a good selection of movies to use in the DVD player. No radio however, so I suggest bringing one or speakers for your Iphone.
A nice time to relax with our cadet and a few of his friends without being rushed in a restaurant or just hanging out in a hotel room. Great time!
Would love to see cornhole game boards provided for outdoor fun. Popular game!
We had a wonderful time at the cabin. It was secluded and quiet, yet close to Lexington for shopping, dinner, and visiting either college in town. The fenced in yard was great for our dog and the cows came over to say hello to her.
Our family stayed at the Windymile cabin for two nights in July. The cabin was clean, comfortable, and is a great place to relax. The views are amazing and the surrounding area is absolutely beautiful. The fenced-in yard was perfect for our black lab too. The owners were friendly and very easy to contact. We will certainly be back again for another stay in the near future.
My daughter (who goes to a nearby college) was horse showing in Lexington so I decided to go down to watch. I also thought it would be a great time for a girls weekend so my sister, my other daughter and my exchange student (Turkmenistan) all came down too. Everything was wonderful! We had a little glitch regarding payment but Dave was very understanding and nice about it and we easily got it sorted out. The show grounds were only about 15 minutes away which was absolutely perfect for us. I loved that Dave gave us a map and pointed some things out for us (especially since service for phones/gps is very sporadic throughout the area). The house was clean (albeit a little bare) and comfortable. The high point of it all though is the view! It's absolutely gorgeous! Even tho it was rather chilly, we spent as much time as we could outside! The clouds constantly changed and we never tired of watching them. And when it gets dark, you become mesmerized by the stars! Unfortunately we didn't get a chance to build a fire but if/when we come back, we definitely will! I would easily recommend this cabin to anyone!
This place is exactly what we were looking for: clean, comfortable, cozy, and simple, with an incredible view and sizable outdoor area. The fenced yard was perfect for our toddler, who we could let roam free with peace of mind. Loved the fire pit, spectacular sunsets, and seeing and hearing the cows day and night. Dave, our host, was friendly and helpful. A very special place to which we would gladly return.
Best part of our stay was sitting by the outdoor fireplace and star gazing each night, beautiful sunsets over the mountains, and the cows greeting us each morning! Truly a piece of paradise in Lexington, VA! Cabin had everything we needed.
