About Richard Sementilli

I am a conscientious, responsive owner who is so proud to share this truly one of a kind property. I grew up in the Westchester County NY and I currently live in NYC. I love the contrast between the beauty and culture of New England with the proximity and excitement of NYC.

Richard Sementilli purchased this cottage in 2012

Why Richard Sementilli chose Candlewood Lake

Last year I found this amazing place on Homeaway. I immediately booked a brief two day stay but, within the first few moments upon my arrival, I knew that one day I wanted to buy this property. The setting is unbelievable, and the house itself is so perfectly charming. I then booked another two week stay this past July (2012) and I never wanted to leave! I ended up buying this property this September. I just had my family up to see this place for the first time this past weekend and they absolutely fell in love with as did I. I love how private, quiet and secluded the location is, but then it is just minutes away from all the things you need.

What makes this cottage unique

The house itself feels like its an old New England rustic cottage but in fact it has all the modern creature comforts that everyone wants. The previous owners had decorated and furnished the home so perfectly to match the setting and the style of the home, so I therefore did not change a thing!

One of my favorite features of this house is waking up in the morning surrounded by views of the lake from every direction - literally. If you look straight, you see water, look left, you see water, look right you see water. It feels like you are actually on a large yacht anchored on shore. It's just spectacular!

Beautiful home

  • 5 of 5

Words cannot do this place justice. It was one of those vacations where we didn't want to go out & eat somewhere else or do other activities. We had everything we needed right there. The kitchen had everything. The home is well named because it is very cozy. Projector & screen were great for movies at night after sitting outside around the fire. Paddle boat, kayak, hot tub, furniture on the dock, hammock, outdoor shower, beautiful views, quiet, peaceful. Better than we expected. Richard is easy to contact & communicate with. Whenever we had questions, he would usually email back within minutes. It is so obvious he loves his home & is happy to welcome you into it. It didn't feel like a rental place but more like we were his guests. All in all wonderful time and we cannot wait to go back. My husband isn't one to go back to the same place twice but was the first one to mention that we should go back in the fall. Thank you, Richard, for opening your home to us.

Beautiful property, very special place. Richard was great.

My wife, 4 y.o. son and I stayed here 4 nights in June, and it was idyllic! Very quiet and peaceful, we'd have morning coffee on the dock while my son looked at fish in the lake and chased dragonflies. The house is charming and comfortable, with water views everywhere. Everything worked as promised, we couldn't have been happier or more pleased with our stay. Appreciate the use of the kayak for lake paddles and that no motorized boats are allowed. We only saw one other person on the lake, a stand up

paddle boarder, while we were there. It feels like you're on your own private lake. The swimming was great too! The grounds are also beautiful, for short walks on a moss covered trail. This is a very unique and special place, perfect for 4 or fewer people. Couldn't recommend it more highly. Thanks Richard!

Hard to Leave Heaven when You Have Seen It.

  • 5 of 5

It took me a while to figure out just what to say. Like others before me, I am afraid to say how great this place was for fear everybody will want to rent it, but we must give credit where credit is due, so here it is. It is even better than the pictures, This is an amazingly beautiful cottage, The owner obviously cares for his house. It shows in the details. The place is breath taking. I could say so many things (honestly, I could write three chapters) about this place from its great fishing, to its private location, boats, hot tub, water and more, but honestly I tried this three times and there is just not enough space to right all the details. So, let me say this, the owner is kind and considerate, and cares for this house. It is nice of him to share this small piece of paradise to the world. But let me at least say this, it is like you are on a houseboat with water views everywhere. The place is only for 4 people, but what a wonderful time those four people will have. We will be renting this again.

Perfect weekend retreat

  • 5 of 5

Richard was a wonderful host and the house was exactly what we were looking for. We had a fantastic weekend and we will definitely be back. The Jacuzzi and the projector were nice touches, but the star attraction was lying out on the swim deck enjoying the peaceful lake.

New Year's Retreat

  • 5 of 5

It's as if Norman Rockwell and Martha Stewart collaborated to create this one of a kind lakeside wonderland. Clean, comfortable, cozy. The features of the house--modern kitchen, wood stove, cable, drop down movie screen, hot tub overlooking the lake--made for a fun and relaxing stay. The grounds are equally fantastic, including a deck, dock, grill, fire pit, and a stream-lined path leading to a romantic porch swing next to the lake. The mountainous roads leading to the cottage provide the opportunity for vigorous morning walks with breathtaking views of nearby Candlewood Lake. We travelled up from Brooklyn for two day getaway over New Year's with our friends from Boston, so the western Connecticut locale was perfect for that purpose. What a way to ring in 2016. Hope to make it an annual rite. It's obvious that the owner cares deeply about this property and wants his guests to enjoy it as much as he does. An added bonus was the quaint and friendly Amore restaurant in Sherman, about a ten minute drive to the cottage.
