Surf Bungalow at Puamana Gated Beachfront Community in Lahaina 12-4

Bedrooms 2
Space 1,030 sq. ft.
Property type bungalow
Minimum Stay 4 - 7 nights

About the property

Bungalow, 2 Bedrooms, 2 Baths, (Sleeps 6)

The quintessential quiet 'Old Hawaii' plantation era experience, in a gated beachfront community, with private beach and surf break. Our Puamana bungalow (12-4) is in a perfect interior community location, close to the historic 1920's era clubhouse and across from the tennis courts, just steps from the ocean. Our quiet getaway is a two bedroom, two bathroom corner unit town home, recently completely remodeled and decorated with tropical plantation furnishings. It has an expanded, private covered lanai, as well as tile flooring throughout. We have gorgeous plantation style chairs and furniture, a bright, new 42 inch LCD LED flat screen TV, and we are away from busy roads and the front gate. The kitchen now has granite countertops and a granite bar as well as dark solid wood cabinets. The upstairs loft has fabulous bright eco flooring and the bathrooms have all new vanities and the ceiling fans and light fixtures have all been redone as well.

Our bungalow is just 50 yards from the ocean, just a short walk with your board to Puamana's secret private surf breaks. Our place is close to the 'Ocean Pool,' which literally touches the ocean, which does not exist anywhere else in Hawaii. We love to sneak out at night to swim, and look out at the ships on the ocean and enjoy the tropical night breeze. Watching the sunset from the wide plantation clubhouse verandah, with the large palm trees along our beach, out to the island of Lanai, is an experience that cannot be replicated by any hotel or resort.

We don't know of any other place in Hawaii where you can essentially leave your car behind, and walk or bike from our bungalow to a place like historic Lahaina town, wander along the harbor and shops, and then go back at night for the vibrant tropical restaurants and galleries.

More than that, our bungalow captures the best spirit of this unique private community, which is unlike any other in Hawaii. When you come through the gate, time seems to slow down and you enter a forgotten era, of a historic Hawaiian plantation with its lush, manicured grounds. There are no high rises here. People drive slowly and use bicycles. We provide a relaxing place to read your book on our spacious lanai, or saunter over to our favorite room at the 1920's era clubhouse, and just sit in the plantation library and peruse the books on its floor to ceiling bookshelves.

Our bungalow has a new king bed in the large master suite downstairs, with a private bath and large TV in the room. The upstairs loft has two twin beds on one side and a queen bed on the other, with a TV upstairs for kids or guests. We provide plentiful linens, covers, towels, and pillows. There is ample air conditioning, with all three units, placed in the living room, master suite, and the upstairs loft. The kitchen is fully appointed for even gourmet cooks, with a complete set of dishware, silverware, utensils, cookware, and even a Cuisinart. ID #41447670-01

Why Natalie Moog chose Maui

We have a family with kids. We wanted a place where they could have fun and be safe, and we didn't have to drive them around. We've been coming to Maui for ten years, and have never found a place quite like this. We don't like high rises or hotels very much, and most condo complexes seem nondescript to us. We wanted something more like a home, but with the feel of a very special resort. We were very fortunate to find a large, recently remodeled unit away from the road, in this community. It is also rare to find a freshly expanded corner unit available on this property. We wanted an easy to use bungalow which had the unique advantage of a beach and surf break within walking distance, and was also safe for our children to ride bikes around, since everyone drives slowly in Puamana. We love to ride our bikes and walk, and this place feels like more of a vacation since we don't have to drive. Lahaina being so close makes for an easy night out to dinner or galleries or the theater.

What makes this bungalow unique

My typical day includes waking up early to go surfing, coming back to our bungalow for coffee, then riding my bike to Lahaina for the paper, and then eating breakfast at our bungalow or by the ocean. We then spend our day swimming in any of the three different pools, particularly taking our kids to the big children's pool in Puamana, and sometimes reading or walking around in Lahaina. Then we might play in the ocean in the afternoon or make dinner or get take out and walk over to the clubhouse to watch the sunset.

Guestbook comments from the owner

We enjoyed our stay here very much. We were able to see whales from the beach area! Our boys enjoyed the tennis court and the lanai. We used the boogie boards at DT Flemmings Beach. So much fun!

Perfect Choice!

  • 5 of 5

We booked this bungalow knowing very little about Maui. We were torn between staying with our two older kids (19 and 24) at a larger resort in Ka'anapali or here in Lahaina. Our kids chose Lahaina, and we couldn't have been happier. The Surf Bungalow was clean, quiet and the perfect location. We started our day with a run or walk into Lahaina and back, then coffee out by the Clubhouse overlooking the ocean. From there, we'd venture around the island...surfing lessons (Goofy Foot), snorkeling ($5/day rental at nearby rental shop), zip lining at the Plantation (Maui Zipline Co.), hiking up on the north end of the island, afternoons by the ocean pool, and playing in the water at Ka'anapali. (Best tip: free beach parking at the Sheraton and Whalers Village if you get there early 9-10:00am). After our days out, we were so happy to return to our quiet community. I think my highlight was happy hour and wine at sunset in front of the Clubhouse with the locals. Thank you so much for sharing your beautiful home. We'd come back in a heartbeat! (The air conditioning is super-loud and not-great pillows, but now I'm just being picky.) Again, LOVED our stay!

Owner's Response: Thanks so much for taking the time to write to us. Thanks for the recommendations. We are so glad you enjoyed your stay. I wanted to let everyone know we replaced all the pillows with brand new organic cotton allergy free pillows. I love our new energy star ACs because I love a little white noise and they keep things nice and cool. One can also use the AC to cool things down and then switch to ceiling fans and ocean breezes for the rest of the night. We hope you come back and stay with us again. Aloha Aloha Matt and Nat

Peaceful, private, like home

  • 5 of 5

The property was very clean and well located; it felt like a neighborhood. The grounds were lovely and the "front desk" was helpful and courteous. It was a long walk to Lahaina, but walkable if motivated to do so. Natalie was a very good host, did a pretty good job of keeping me updated with recent developments (change of passwords). Would stay here again.

Vacation of a Lifetime

  • 5 of 5

Endless Summer Bungalow was an important part of making this a vacation of a lifetime. First, Natalie was a graceful host. She responded promptly to all of my inquiries. The bungalow is large and comfortable. It provided everything we needed. Every morning, we ate breakfast on the lanai where we enjoyed the morning breeze and serenity. On our last night, we ate dinner and watched the sunset in the gazebo at the old plantation clubhouse. The sunset was spectacular. Afterwards, we joined another party who was visiting from Canada.

The property grounds are absolutely gorgeous and well maintained. I loved the peacefulness of the complex vs the hustle and bustle of a resort. Every morning, around 6:30 AM, I strolled about the grounds to watch the amazing sunrise. My family enjoyed the use of the pool. There are three pools on the grounds, all of which were well maintained. The pool on the ocean is spectacular and provides a vista point for experiencing sunrise and sunset.

The location is perfect, it is centrally located. Lahina is a few minutes away by car. I highly recommend eating at Mixed Plate Grill and take advantage of happy hour. It is close to the harbors if you plan on going snorkeling or whale watching. We went snorkeling with Quicksilver. Wow! Breakfast at the Gazabo restaurant was wonderful. The macadamia white chocolate pancakes are to die for. We ate there after we watched the sunrise at Mt. Haleakala.

Natalie, thank you so much for sharing your lovely home and being such a gracious hostess. I appreciate you opening your home to us. This truly was a special holiday for our family. There were four generations at your home who will remember different things for different reasons, but one thing is for sure, we loved your home and hospitality. We will return.

Above average rental with great ocean side pool with very limited kitchen.

  • 4 of 5

I really enjoyed staying at this location. Highlights were the great ocean side pool, convenience to Lahaina with very quiet surroundings in a gated community with spacious grounds. The sunsets at the pool side were great. My unit was modestly furnished with a lanai with a Weber style grill. The kitchen area with dining bar was small for indoor dining but the outside lanai does have a table for four and OK for smaller families. The kitchen is very small with room for really only one person and cabinet storage space very limited. If you want to buy extra food to keep outside of the refrigerator, there is only room on the bar surface. Suitable rental really for a couple or single...would be less appealing to stay here for a longer period of time with a family. Otherwise, there is snorkel gear and beach gear that comes with the rental and is a plus. The owner was very responsive and pleasant and accommodating.

Owner's Response: Glad you enjoyed your stay at Endless Summer Bungalow. I just wanted to add that we have two refrigerators (one very large fridge in the kitchen and a smaller fridge on the back lanai for extra food and drink) The table on the lanai is a large teak dining room sized table that spaciously seats 6 as shown in the pictures. The lanai is very protected and covered and suitable for outdoor dining even on a rare rainy evening. The bar as shown in the pictures seats 3 very comfortably. Our bungalow is 1030 square feet indoors with a 400 square foot covered lanai. There are two full bathrooms as well as an outdoor shower. We have of plenty room for our family even when grandma joins us. Aloha

Peace Ahhhhhhhh

  • 5 of 5

Heavenly condo, super clean, cool tile floors, elegant furniture, great soft lighting and fabulous comfy bed. The airy high ceilings and ceiling fans made it for me. So peaceful, safe and quiet. The condo is just steps to the gorgeous clubhouse and my favorite place ...... the Quiet Pool that overlooks the ocean- watching surfers and boats as I had morning coffee. I loved riding a bike the short ride to town and to baby beach and up the coast. Also - I love the art work in this condo! wow- such good local paintings and photos - quite refreshing. Thank you for sharing this home, it truly felt like a vacation should. I look forward to coming back asap!
