July/Aug 2013

  • 4 of 5

Our three generation family stayed here last week of July 2013. Sorry I'm just getting around to writing a review. This property is lovely, with a beautiful tree covered drive and abundant wildlife to see. The house was the perfect size for our 8 adult and 4 children family (although another bathroom would have been nice). Children's play set is old and leaves much to be desired, but there is plenty of room for volley ball, kickball, etc. and it's great for a nature scavenger hunt for the kids! We really enjoyed the pool...full sun, water not too cold, and as with the house, large enough to accommodate our whole family without feeling crowded. The house was very clean when we arrived and has all the amenities, nice dishes, towels to use, washer & dryer, etc. When we were there, a kitchen overhead light didn't work (not just a burnt out bulb), but other than that there were no major issues. Furnishings show a little wear- just enough to be comfortable, but not so much to be considered shabby at all. We loved the sun room in the morning to have coffee and watch the deer, and in the evening to wind down! We've done Gatlinburg/Pigeon Forge (45-55 min. away) several times now so didn't go back this year because there really isn't anything else in the area of interest for the kids & grand kids. We did enjoy Dandridge one day for antiquing and lunch at the hardware/general store soda fountain. The lake is nice for boating and water sports. Not crowded, even on weekends. We were pleased with the house, had a great time, and would highly recommend this property for your stay!

Owner's Response: Thank you for posting both the good and the bad. The kitchen lights were replaced probably immediately after your stay. But, I have not yet gotten any feedback on the children's play set (slide etc). I appreciate that ! No one in our family is young enough to use the equipment, so I did not know. I will look into repairing or replacing the equipment so that it can be used by families that have children of the age to use it. As for the rest, which is good, we are happy. We are pleased that you enjoyed you stay. The amenities, the wildlife, and the proximity to attractions and events. You might consider Dollywood in the future, which is also a short drive away. Thank you for your review. We hope that we might have the opportunity to meet your vacation needs in the future. Craig and Ruby

Very Nice. Clean

  • 4 of 5

If you are bringing a boat, do not attempt to trailer it down the driveway. House was extremely clean and very well suited for our family reunion. Staff was courteous when they had to be on the property. Had an issue with the DirecTV which was resolved quickly.

Owner's Response: We are very happy that these guests had a good time and that all was suitable for the family's needs. We try our best to provide a clean, well appointed waterfront property. Mr L. is quite correct. You can not trailer a boat down to my dock. The slope to our dock is only suitable for golf cart passage. The boat must be launched at the Leadvale Public Boat Launch on 24E. If you stand on our dock and wave, some one launching a boat from the Leadvale Launch can see you from across the water To get to the launch from the house, turn right onto Harrison Ferry, proceed to the end. Turn right on Nina, proceed to the end. Turn right onto 24E. Proceed a few miles on 24E. Go over the iron bridge. The boat launch is on the right. Once again, we are very pleased that all worked out well for the family reunion. Thank you very much for your business. Craig and Ruby

Douglas Lake July 2013

  • 5 of 5

We just returned from a week long trip to this property at Douglas Lake. We pulled in the driveway on July 20th at 3PM to find the house ready for us to check in. The house is awesome. Tons of room for our party of 12 to spread out. Everything was very clean and well kept inside the house. The ping pong and pool tables were a big hit. The yard and property are also very well kept. Saw deer in the yard everyday. The pool was clean and clear upon arrival and was cleaned twice during our visit. We brought our boat, so we made great use of the covered boat dock. The lake was awesome. We saw maybe 10 boats the entire week. We skied, tubed and fished in what felt like our own private lake all week. House is 5 mins from Baneberry Golf club. The course was also very well kept, with very friendly staff. The area is quiet, but close enough to shopping, dining and anything else you want to do in the Pigeon Forge - Gatlinburg Area. The owners take very good care of the house and the property. We had absolutely no problems with the house, appliances, dishes, beds... Absolutely awesome vacation! This was our 1st trip to Douglas Lake, but you can bet we will be back!

My family and I rented this house for a week. The nice in-ground pool, pool table and ping pong table didn't quite compensate for the creaky doors, squeaky floors, rock hard beds, filthy windows, broken blinds and the semi-clean state of the place. Little things like missing drawer knobs in the kitchen and artwork thumb-tacked to the wall in the cheerless dining room made me wonder how often the owner visits to check-in on his/her rental property. It was adequate, but not comfortable. We won't be back.

Owner's Response: Thank you for your input. If there is a missing knob on a kitchen drawer or a blind not operating properly, I will look to getting a repair/replacement. I am also sorry that any squeaks or creaks in the doors or floors overshadowed your enjoyment of all the amenities our house has to offer, the quiet setting and the unique location. I have all the windows cleaned each Spring and the house cleaned between tenants. I, personally, have never had any issues with the cleaning, but will examine the house more carefully next time I am there. I am sorry that there was no cheer in the dining room at your meals. The room is what it is, exactly like the photograph in the listing. I wish you the best of luck for your future vacations elsewhere. Sincerely, Craig Erkkila

Wonderful Vacation!

  • 5 of 5

We've just returned from a week at this wonderful house. From the first look at the property with it's tree-lined drive to our last glimpse as we pulled away, it was a wonderful week. I do have to say that the house is even more beautiful than the pictures indicate. The kitchen is spacious and wonderfully equipped - no second hand odd assortment of pots and pans here. Everything looks new and most anything you could ask for is here. For those with mobility problems there is a bedroom and bathroom on the first floor. The first floor bathroom has a walk-in shower. There are also steps in to the pool. I was worried that I wouldn't be able to get into the pool but, with a little help from my family, I got in and out okay. The owner was also easy to deal with. No complaints there. We found it a little far from Gatlinburg and surrounding towns for our tastes but if you're looking for a place to get away, this is it. We would definately stay here again.

Harden Family Vacation 2012

  • 5 of 5

This was so nice out in the country but not to far from things to do about 30 min from 3 towns. The lot is large so the children had room to run and play. We saw deer every day sometimes around the pool coming from the lake.Good dock for your boat or to fish on.Thanks to the pool guys the storm made a mess of the pool but they had it cleaned in just a few hours so we could go swimming again.
