About Michael Mshar

My mother and dad bought the Strawberry lake property in the early 80’s. It was intended to be their place to escape to....quiet peaceful, great fishing and lots of visitors. Eagles, river otter, loons, deer, “etc.” Their first cottage on the property was a 25 foot used trailer that Dad bought for $500 dollars - not the huge home you see now.

Michael Mshar purchased this house in 1982

Why Michael Mshar chose Western Michigan

If you look in the lower level bathroom you will discover the hole in the concrete floor where dad sunk a well point 4 feet into the ground water for our drinking water. Before we could use it, Dad had it tested and the chemist wanted to know where he found such pure water. Being an engineer, my dad knew that the source was the springs that feed Strawberry Lake. By the way, if you wondered about the name “Strawberry Lake,” in the summer the flowers that bloom in the lake look very much like Strawberry plants.

My dad designed the house with of course input from Geri, my mother. They constructed the basement first, and used that for a weekend getaway until they built the rest of the house in 1991. The house was designed to function as an entertainment center with the Lake as the focal point.

Fourth of July (Mom's birthday) always found the house crowded with visitors...Mom’s brothers and their families from Wisconsin and many local residents just dropping by. There have been several weddings at the lake including mine, and my sister’s. Mom liked to cook and was very good at feeding lots of people, so the holidays were always busy. She would cook for the many deer hunters who visited the house for the annual November 14th party. I do however believe that her favorite occasion was the annual “Thanksgiving Dinner.”

What makes this house unique

The house truly is a four season playground . It can be a serene, healing experience, or a place bubbling with a variety of family activities - swimming, fishing, volleyball, and the older folks playing cards on the spacious decks soaking in the energy of the lake and the forest.

Had a Great family vacation, room for all!

  • 4 of 5

Our extended family of 14 had a great time at the lake house. There was room for all with the three floors of bedrooms and a nice large kitchen. We were all able to eat together in the dining area. The paddle boats were lots of fun along with fishing off the dock as we caught many small fish. The beach was nice for the little ones and the older ones enjoyed the floating raft.

The only unfortunate situations were the grill that was not in good working condition (when the owner found out, he said he would replace it) and the missing electric pontoon (it evidently was damaged a couple of years ago and the info was not taken down from website.)

Our family enjoyed ourselves enough that we have already scheduled for next year and are anxious to return,

Owner's Response: I'm very happy you enjoyed your stay and we are looking forward to having you back next summer. As for the grill it will be replaced. Once guests make me aware of any issues I see to it they are taken care of. The electric pontoon was taken out of service due to damage and neglect but has been replaced by 3 paddle boats, 4 kayaks and canoes and row boats. Lots of things to use on the lake. Take care. Mike

The property is beautiful and very tranquil. Such a wonderful week on Strawberry Lake.

  • 5 of 5

We loved the house. There was so many areas of the house that even on a rainy day we were able to spread out and not feel crowded into a room. We loved our stay. The lake has a very nice sandy beach and was great for young children. The raft was wonderful for older kids to swim to. Fishing was really good too.

We would recommend anyone with a large group to check this property out.

This house and property fit our large family from 2 months old to 73 years of age very nicely. The beach, fishing, campfire, water craft provided, walks around the Lake, and room for our own traditional family activities was enjoyed by all.

A Beautiful and Peaceful Location. We would love to go again.

  • 5 of 5

We all mentioned how peaceful we felt at Michael's property. The lake is beautiful and the whole area is surrounded by trees. There were 13 of us-6 adults and 7 children. The lake is small, so the water was still warm even though we stayed the last weekend in September. There was a swimming dock which the children loved. We had the use of 4 kayaks, 2 paddle boats, and a canoe. No one had to wait for a turn to be on the water. Life jackets, toys for the water, and fishing poles just added to the fun. The inside had lots of toys and a selection of DVD's. The beds were very comfortable. It is a little confusing to find, but it is worth it. We loved our time there. One thing to take note of is that the bedrooms are not set up quite a described. They probably were when the description was written, but now there are a few differences. Other than that, the description was quite accurate. The property was clean. One more thing about the water. It is so clear that you can see fish swimming..

Owner's Response: Thank you for the review. I am glad you all enjoyed the home and property. I apologize for the confusion with the beds in a few rooms. Unknown to me prior guests had moved some beds around. This has been corrected. Take care. Mike
