My mother and dad bought the Strawberry lake property in the early 80’s. It was intended to be their place to escape to....quiet peaceful, great fishing and lots of visitors. Eagles, river otter, loons, deer, “etc.” Their first cottage on the property was a 25 foot used trailer that Dad bought for $500 dollars - not the huge home you see now.
Michael Mshar purchased this house in 1982
If you look in the lower level bathroom you will discover the hole in the concrete floor where dad sunk a well point 4 feet into the ground water for our drinking water. Before we could use it, Dad had it tested and the chemist wanted to know where he found such pure water. Being an engineer, my dad knew that the source was the springs that feed Strawberry Lake. By the way, if you wondered about the name “Strawberry Lake,” in the summer the flowers that bloom in the lake look very much like Strawberry plants.
My dad designed the house with of course input from Geri, my mother. They constructed the basement first, and used that for a weekend getaway until they built the rest of the house in 1991. The house was designed to function as an entertainment center with the Lake as the focal point.
Fourth of July (Mom's birthday) always found the house crowded with visitors...Mom’s brothers and their families from Wisconsin and many local residents just dropping by. There have been several weddings at the lake including mine, and my sister’s. Mom liked to cook and was very good at feeding lots of people, so the holidays were always busy. She would cook for the many deer hunters who visited the house for the annual November 14th party. I do however believe that her favorite occasion was the annual “Thanksgiving Dinner.”
The house truly is a four season playground . It can be a serene, healing experience, or a place bubbling with a variety of family activities - swimming, fishing, volleyball, and the older folks playing cards on the spacious decks soaking in the energy of the lake and the forest.

We had great opportunity to spend New Year Eve in the beautiful house with full feeling of holidays. We enjoying house itself and it's property around as well as Caberfae skiing resort. It is beautiful area! We did not worry about anything - house is loaded with cookware, dinning supply as well as household supplies. Wi-Fi and land-line phone provided
The owner is very friendly, supportive and quick responding if you have any questions.
We are planning to be back.
We all mentioned how peaceful we felt at Michael's property. The lake is beautiful and the whole area is surrounded by trees. There were 13 of us-6 adults and 7 children. The lake is small, so the water was still warm even though we stayed the last weekend in September. There was a swimming dock which the children loved. We had the use of 4 kayaks, 2 paddle boats, and a canoe. No one had to wait for a turn to be on the water. Life jackets, toys for the water, and fishing poles just added to the fun. The inside had lots of toys and a selection of DVD's. The beds were very comfortable. It is a little confusing to find, but it is worth it. We loved our time there. One thing to take note of is that the bedrooms are not set up quite a described. They probably were when the description was written, but now there are a few differences. Other than that, the description was quite accurate. The property was clean. One more thing about the water. It is so clear that you can see fish swimming..
This was the fourth year that our group of of family/friends from Redford Moose Family Center 1743/95 has rented a place for the Labor Day Weekend. This was our first trip to this home on Strawberry Lake. We had 12 adults and 8 kids. The oldest was 86 and youngest was 8. We arrived on Thursday and picked out bedrooms and put away food. Kayaks, paddle boats, swim raft and fishing dock were used non stop the rest of the weekend.
The kitchen has everything you need and then some. The lake is crystal clear. Decks are big enough for everyone. We restricted electronic devices to early morning and late evenings. This meant the kids had old fashioned fun. Swimming, kayaking, fishing, playing king of the swim raft. The water doesn't get deep for quite aways out so everyone got to enjoy the swim raft. It was so much fun watching these kids who are usually so attached to their devices. I don't think they spotted a single Pokemon!!!
We also had to restrict hide and seek to no bedrooms. Luckily one gentleman heard a 'shh' prior to changing his clothes. When asked what 'what are you doing in here', she replied 'playing hide and seek'. Some rules you have to create as you go!
We had campfire Karaoke which I have to admit was DJ'd by our 15 year old grand daughter via YouTube.
We will be coming back as long as they will have us!!!
We love this house and the property! This is my family's second time at Strawberry Lake. My nine grandchildren have a great time fishing from the pier or from one of the boats provided. Plenty of space outside, great deck and beach area. The lake is so clear and it's nice not to have to worry about power boats and jet skis. We swam across the lake several times. The house is well - maintained and very comfortable. Plenty of sleeping accommodations. The owner, Mike, is easily available for any concerns or questions. This is truly a wonderful spot for peace and quiet.
10 Adults and 7 little ones had a great stay on Strawberry Lake! Quite, secluded, wonderful. The house was well-prepared and provisioned for all our needs. We've re-booked for next year. The only drawbacks are very slow internet and little cell service... but are those drawbacks or advantages?! Mike was attentive to us when we had questions. It's 15 minutes off of paved roads, but that contributed to the quiet. The lake is perfect and the beach area just right for our little ones. The adults loved the kayaks, canoe and pontoon.
My family from California came in for a reunion of sorts, and we had a great time! The peace and tranquility cannot be beat, and the surroundings were beautiful. We enjoyed the kayaks, and peddle boats, and spent every night around the fire. Home was very comfortable with plenty of room for them, plus all of us that live here that would go over every day to enjoy all that the home has to offer. Everything was just as described, and overall, it is just a great place to relax, and enjoy each others company.
