Here are a few reviews from our renters:

'I am sitting in the living room of the Hopkins' condo as I type. My 5-year-old son is napping (hours on the beach and pool can wear even the most determined non-sleeper down) on 'the coolest bunk beds in the world;' my wife and daughter walked up to the infinity pool for more swim time. The condo is top-notch in every way. It is beautifully furnished and situated in a great location for views as well as access to the pool and fitness center.

The location of the condo development on the grounds of the Mauna Kea Resort is excellent. This is the first time we have stayed in Hawaii and not felt packed in with other vacationers. We are a short ride to the Hapuna Prince Beach Resort and its amazing beach and are within a 15 minute drive of a whole range of other resorts. But the best part is, when we’re at the condo, we don’t feel like we’re in resortville! In other words, this place offers the best of both worlds. We’ll be back!'

'Your condominium was beautiful. It was so nicely decorated and accommodating for a family of five. The ability to access the pool and beach at Hapuna Beach was a nice extra. We are definitely interested in staying there again some time.'

-- the Feldman family, Los Altos, CA

'Quite simply, the condo was spectacular - our family was there for the first week of 2010 and our only regret was that we would have liked to have spent more time there. In the past we have stayed at the Mauna Kea Hotel; however, now that we have 2 small children we find it challenging to stay in hotels. Staying at this condo was a great balance - we had a luxurious, spacious condo with every amenity that you could imagine plus had signing privileges at the Mauna Kea which was a 5 minute drive. We were treated and felt as if we were guests at the hotel but felt that we were at an advantage since we were able to sleep in a beautifully furnished, 2100 square foot home as opposed to a 500 sq. foot room. Did I mention the amazing views? Highly recommended and we will be back!'

-- the Youn family, Orinda, CA

'We want to thank you for allowing us to stay in your palatial abode. It was the most relaxing part of our trip and your outdoor patio/kitchen was just wonderful. We found it even more beautiful than your VRBO photos.

Your expansive, spectacular ocean view just took our breath away every morning as we lingered over our aromatic Kona coffee on the lanai. Several in our party had not visited the Big Island before and experiencing it with your place as our home base was just a giant bonus. Having access to the Mauna Kea and Hapuna Prince resorts could not have been more convenient. I even used the shuttle back to the townhouse when our group split up on various adventures and I was without a car and it was so easy and fast. We swam with turtles off the Mauna Kea beach and found the snorkeling there surprisingly good. The easy access to horseback riding in Waipio, Manta ray snorkeling from the Kona harbor and art browsing in Hawi, made us realize that your location just truly can’t be beat.

We rarely (if ever) say we want to return to a place because we like to try something new every time we travel (so many places so little time!). But this was so special and worked out so well for our group, we would very much like to return to your piece of paradise. So many, many mahalos for helping put smiles on the faces of our teenagers, taking the work stress away from my husband and making our family getaway the best yet!!'

About David and Rosemary Hopkins

We live in N. California most of the year, where we have enjoyed productive careers in health care. We look forward to spending time at our retreat in paradise with family and friends.

David and Rosemary Hopkins purchased this condo in 2006

Why David and Rosemary Hopkins chose Kamuela

We fell in love with Mauna Kea Resort the first time we visited there many years ago. We couldn't wait to own property there to enjoy during our retirement, and so we were thrilled to discover this new low-density development before it was built and when we could have our choice of locations.

What makes this condo unique

Amazing views, sitting on our lanai and watching the sun set over the ocean. Close proximity to Mauna Kea and Hapuna beaches, which are the best on the island. Also, a short drive to Waimea, which has remained a quaint Hawaiian town.

Perfect Big Island Vacation!

  • 5 of 5

We had a fabulous stay in this lovely condo! The ground floor location was great because it gave our party of 6 (my husband and I, 2 daughters, one son-law, and our 19-year-old son) room to spread out on the generous covered patio and lawn with a postcard-perfect view of flowers, grass, distant swaying palms, and blue ocean beyond. At night, we stargazed from the lawn at the clear night sky----more stars than I had ever seen before. We even saw shooting stars!

The kitchen was fully -equipped, and we ate breakfast every day there and had one great barbeque dinner. A great selection of excellent restaurants is a short (5-30 minutes) drive away.

We fully enjoyed the thoughtfully -included beach and other activities at the Mauna Kea Resort(we never had time to use the Hapuna offerings)----beach lounging, boogie-boarding, swimming out to the platforms, hiking along the coast, ukelele lessons, tennis (there was an extra fee for this when we used it in prime time), etc. It was nice to have delicious smoothies at the Hau Tree restaurant right on the beach, and lunch there, too.

We really appreciated the owners' providing us with the use of boogie boards, beach towels, and snorkeling gear! We used the gear at Kahalu'u Beach one morning and saw a plethora of colorful fish in their natural habitat!

This place is definitely one we would love to return to. We have stayed at the Mauna Kea, Hapuna Beach, Kona Village, and Four Seasons hotels, and in a condo at Kolea and this is, for our party of 6, the perfect option!

Ocenview Condo with Amenities of 2 Resorts!

  • 5 of 5

This was a great condo for my brother and my family to meet for vacation. Two master bedrooms and bunk beds to sleep four kids, this place was ideal. Also, it provided beach access and amenities for both the Hapuna Prince Beach Hotel and Mauna Kea. Each offered great beach locations 2-3 minutes away and good parking passes. Also, heck out the Manta Restaurant at Mauna Kea Hotel. Good food. Finally, if you need anything, like trash pick up, the resort staff attends to you immediately. If going back to Hawaii we will request to stay, again. This one has a repeat customer.

Beautiful condo with nice views

  • 5 of 5

Beautiful condo with very nice view. Well equipped kitchen and lots of beach gear to use. Also loved having access to two hotels as their pools and beaches are very nice. Gym and pool are decent at the complex. Hotel pools and gyms are very nice. Condo probably needs a new dishwasher. It never worked right .

I have just returned from 12 awesome days in this Condo. We have come to Wai Ula Ula every year for about 7 years, but this was the first time in this Condo. It was by far the best experience we have had...the furnishings, the beach toys, the view, the way the bedrooms were situated were all perfect. Nothing better than sitting on the porch at sunset with a beverage in hand taking it all in. The Hapuna and Mauna Kea connection make this the best vacation ever!!!

Exceeded all our expectations

  • 5 of 5

Trust the reviews! This is a wonderful property that is even nicer in person. Kids walked in and screamed when they saw it--it was THAT nice. We lived liked kings and queens for a week. Very clean. Beautiful views. No clutter. Lots of clean towels. Large Washer and dryer and laundry detergent (thank you very much). 3 large bathrooms. Snorkel gear in the closet. Every possible kitchen tool you could ever need. Easy drive to Mauna Kea Beach and resort with parking and full use of their facilities (This amenity is thoughtfully included in the rental of this particular property). Short walk to a lovely pool and fitness center. Look no further--this is the property you're looking for!

If you have never been to Hawaii Island before (we hadn't), visit Mauna Kea at night to look through their telescopes at the visitors center, go snorkeling or on a snorkel cruise, and visit Volcano. Waimea is a pretty drive for groceries and coffee. (They have a very capable Urgent Care Center too for stitches in case a bike ride into the volcano goes awry). And have at least one family dinner on the lanai overlooking the ocean at sunset. Happy memories. Thank you Rosemary and David for your hospitality and generosity.

Hawaiian Christmas and New Year Vacation

  • 5 of 5

We just got home from this wonderful property. We spent 11 nights at the unit over the Christmas and New Year holiday. The unit was perfect for our family- 3 great bedrooms with bathrooms for each, tons of snorkeling equipment and boogie boards for the ocean. The kitchen is great and outdoor grill and patio are a great amenity as well. The access to Mauna Kea and Hapuna Prince made our vacation wonderful as well as those properties are included in your rental. I would highly recommend this property for anyone with a family looking to have an unforgettable vacation. Thank you also to the owners for their responsiveness and the on-site help from the Mauna Kea representative- she even stocked the fridge for us as we had a late arrival with children. We can't wait to come back!
