We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the rare and secluded 1940s estate. I love history and you can imagine that this home is full of tales of the early Texas settlers! Books and pictures abound that take you back to another place in time. The beds were so comfortable, there were plenty of towels and the kitchen was well stocked. The pool area was incredible - sun, shade, seclusion and lots of pool toys and floats. The home is close to the river and many parts of Austin with little traffic. Restaurants and supermarkets are all close. Virginia is a wonderful host! Thank you for sharing your family home with us. Mary Ann
I stayed here for my bachelorette party. The owner of the house was extremely flexible and accommodating to our needs. We all came from out of state and Virginia was very willing to allow us to store our luggage before/after official check-in and check-out times. The house is adorable and beds are comfortable. There is a lot of sleeping space and can hold many adults. There is a wonderful sun room that looks out to the pool, and having a pool in Austin was excellent! It was very easy to communicate with Virginia before and during our stay. She promptly responded to all questions we had before and during our stay. The house is in a great location, walking distance to a grocery store, and a short taxi away form S. Congress Street and 6th Street. The property is large, private and quiet. I would highly recommend staying at this home if you visit Austin with a group of adults or with your family.
We loved our stay in Virginia's wonderful, period property. The pool and terrace, and the canopy of Texas live oaks, were a wonderful escape from the heat. The house is spacious, immaculately clean and wonderfully laid out for a large group. Virginia could not have been more helpful and accommodating. It is a wonderful oasis in a terrific city! Close to gorgeous sunsets at Mount Bonnell and only a shot drive to downtown Austin. A real hidden gem.
We had such a good time at this house for a bachelorette party!!! Virginia was very accommodating and gave us everything we asked for, and quickly, since she was right on site. The pool and outdoor patio are so nice and the house has plenty of room for lots of guests. We fit 9 very comfortably. Couldn't have asked for a better place to stay. Great location, short cab ride to downtown. Thanks Virginia for an awesome girls weekend!!!
This house was a total gem and the perfect place for the whole family to stay while in town for a wedding in Austin. The house is full of unique artwork, antiques and endless places for groups of family and friends to sit and converse. It is well-appointed with all amenities and the owner is close by and ready to assist should you need anything. Swimming was something we spent hours and hours doing, and was totally necessary for the Texas summer heat! Some of the taller men in the family were challenged with the short shower heads and our toddler had to be kept away from some of the more delicate antiques in the house, but such is the way with a home built in the 40s and a fair trade for the fun and unique atmosphere of the place. Very secluded, and our musical family had a blast singing along with the piano and guitar. You almost don't need to venture into town, though there are definitely some fun places nearby- we especially enjoyed the Celtic shop and the music store Fiddler's Green. Thanks for a great trip, and we hope to stay again!
This house worked so well for a trip I planned for a group of 8 girls who came to Austin for a bachelorette weekend. Virginia, the homeowner, was not only accommodating and sweet but lives right on the property and helped us any time we needed something while not coming off as overbearing in any way. We listened to loud music in the house and had no problems!
Plenty of space, awesome pool (and even better Christmas lights around them!!), fully stocked kitchen with everything you'll need if you want to do some cooking, and lots of bedrooms! We had a blast!
Absolutely recommend this house for your stay in Austin!
