Ebsen Vacation Home was originally built by Buddy Ebsen's parents Christian L Ebsen and his mother Frances. The deed has been secured from the local courthouse and has been framed for the walls at the cottage. They came down from Illinois and moved to Florida then came in Oct of 1946 bought this land in the Naples area of Hendersonville, North Carolina for their summer home to be built and live there during their summers when Buddy was a young lad.

In later years Buddy Ebsen (AKA as Jed Clampett on Beverly Hillbillies) would come from Hollywood to relax and stay here at this cottage. I

So come and enjoy the Ebsen Summer Home built in 1940's and updated with all the modern conveniences so you can enjoy the Yester years and still have the comforts of today.

The Carolina Granite Fireplace that stands so majestic in the living room with 10 ft ceilings ,hardwood floors and large living room for lots of relaxing. and here you can see the Blue Ridge mountains from the windows.

The Kitchen has large open windows to allow the morning sun to kiss the windows sills and as you make some hot tea or cup of coffee and just outside that kitchen door is waiting a deck with a welcoming chair and table to enjoy the morning as the dew begins to lift and dry from the boards and the azaleas and blooming cherry tree and old apple tree lifts their heads to the sun you enjoy the quiet and peace of the back veranda with no worries and the planning of your excursions for the day. Then to remember that at the end of the day and tired you can still return to this deck and enjoy the evening and night comfortably because the mountains nights are quiet cool even in the summer months that is like a refreshing drink of water to cool the insides as well as the outside from the heat of the day.

Then retire to the bedrooms covered with Egyptian sheets so silky that when you sleep and you arise in the morning rested and ready for the next day excursions..

There are alot of places to see and enjoy while your stay at the 'Ebsen Summer Home'

This house has also a Front Covered porch that you can view the Blue Ridge Mountain rocking chair with outdoor furniture open windows to enjoy the outside seeing the trees and beautiful azaleas that adorn this 1940 Bungalow house.

About Jeanette Glenn

I am a native of Hendersonville NC .

Jeanette Glenn purchased this bungalow in 1999

Why Jeanette Glenn chose Asheville Area

In 1999 I bought this first piece of property and for many years it was a monthly rental but the history behind the scenes that where told to me about Buddy Ebsen and his family actually bought this property many years ago and built a home and a cottage and this was there summer home. AKA Jed Clampett and I thought was a beautiful way to display yester years and let other people enjoy it.

What makes this bungalow unique

I was so impressed of course with the property because of the views from the front porch and all its history.

So as Jed would put it 'Come and Sit a Spell'

I recommend you do this very thing. Relax, smell the mountain air, and if you like walk the grounds it is just like it was back in the early 1940.

I would recommend a set of the electronic pest repellents for the mice and the ants, otherwise it was great place to stay, convenient to get around. I did have trouble getting the wifi to work.

Owner's Response: I have a pest control company come every 3 months to take care of this property. When guest live there for a short term rental there is always a chance that they just might not quiet tidy up as often as some others do. I would recommend if that is the case to please tell me and I can always have the pest control people to come earlier. This traveler as I recall never told me that they had pest problems. So I cannot fix what I do no know. The wifi is directly wired to the modem and if for some reason the wifi is weak is because sometimes the device that the guest are using is not an updated device that has an internal wifi hook up. I thank all my guest for constructive criticism.

Such a special place!

My friend and I stayed at the Ebsen Cottage when we came to town for the Mother Earth News Fair and I am so happy to have discovered it. The cottage is truly a home away from home. The kitchen opens up to a nice deck to the east overlooking the back lawn and we enjoyed winding down the day back there. The heated front porch enclosure offers beautiful sunsets and views of the mountains and it is a great place for dinner or just to unwind. Yoga in front of the fire place was awesome each morning and the whole cottage gives a homey feel. The backyard is very large and it is a good place for families with children. The layout of the cottage is standard shotgun so ever room opens up to a different main room and both adult bedrooms open to a bathroom. Lots of closets too. Everything we needed was very close to us. The décor is total home charm from the quilts to the glassware. The Ebsen Cottage is very family oriented but it is also suitable for a friendly weekend get-together. Jeanette is wonderful hostess. I hope to stay again at the Ebsen cottage.

I live on a farm in the Bluegrass region of Kentucky.

Needs improvement

  • 2 of 5

The cottage needs a good Spring cleaning. There were droppings in the chests of drawers and kitchen cabinets.

The Wi-Fi never worked, nor did the mixer.

The two stars are for Jeanette's communications before and during our stay.

Owner's Response: To this guest. I answered her calls and explained about the WiFi since I was unaware it was not working. There are alot elements here in the mountains that can cause a computer to not work. I called The ISP provider there was a cable problem. That is out of my control. It took several days to fix this . unfortunately it was past the time for their Stay. It is now fixed. Also I do all the cleaning in my cottage and can assure you I am conscientious of all the Issues that this guest complained about. I also have a pest control company that takes care of the property . The appliances in kitchen. If they had told me about the mixer would not work I would have replaced it. If they were that concerned about the mixer as they were about the WiFi not working. They called about the WiFi then why did they not tell me about the mixer. Instead of commented about if. It could have been working and that very day could have quit. I have replaced seriouslyer with a new one. The old one was not bad anyway. The WiFi has been fixed. As I have always said constructive criticism is well taken. But when I strive to give my guest a excellent quality for an affordable price. I am offended by these kind of comments. I cannot fix if you do not tell me. This guest was even offended by me calling their name in correctly! So I feel this guest had other issues. You can look at the other reviews and they should speak for themselves. I look forward to serving all my guest and making it a memorable time. This is my lively hood and I take this very seriously to the cleanliness of my cottage. I am a widow and take these things very seriously because this is how I make my living.

Definitely a step back in time

  • 3 of 5

Very clean with everything needed for a few nights stay. First impression when you pull up is "what did I get myself into" but open the front door and it's very warm and quaint. Being an old preserved house you will see some imperfect exterior home conditions (none that is an inconvenience). Getting up to the home will require a running start with a loaded vehicle. It's a pretty steep incline. As the driveway sign states, "Keep a steady pace". The only negatives I have is: (1) the home has only 2 window A/C's for cooling (one in the living room and the other in the middle bedroom). The master bedroom door will have to be left open if you want the room to be cool during summer nights. (2) the middle bedroom double bed is hard as rock. (3) Whoever sleeps in the bunk beds has to go through the middle bedroom to access the bathroom.

Owner's Response: Yes this house does take you back to a step in time. That is the sole purpose of leaving it intact so that others can enjoy and see what a gem that they have discovered on Homeaway. I have updated the home in so many way can you imagine how they must have lived back in the 40s. But this home was posh considering the times and only a summer home for the Ebsens. All the water lines and are updated as well as the bathroom. Yes, there is only one bathroom. But 3rd bedroom you can go thru the kitchen, dining room but you must step into the second bedroom to get there. But all my guest are usually families and if they were at home they to would still have to go into other room occupied by other family members because most modern day homes only have bath and half unless you have a master bathroom. But really how much time do we spend in the vacation rentals. Most people spend the nights, and up early off to their daily excursions. So they only occupy the home at most 6 to 10 hours of which is sleep time. The bed in second bedroom is firm not hard as a rock. I have had other guest that really like the firmness because of back issues. So I guess I can accomodate some but not all. The other amenities I have really outweigh the most negatives and all my guest walk away with a very warm feeling of the home. I strive to make everyone happy that is of course my motto. Thank you for allowing me to serve you. Last but not least is the slight incline. Yes this house is on a little small knoll, but if you are not from this area and usually from the low lands this might seem like a mountain. Rest assured that the drive way has gravel and if you do not keep that "Steady Pace starting at the sign you will spin gravel but that is all. No worries you will arrive fine and then you will see the gorgeous Blue Ridge Mountain at the top. Thank you again for your response and I look forward to all constructive criticism.

Really enjoyed the ambiance of this house. Tastefully decorated. Wi-fi was weak but other than that this place was fantastic. I would definitely recommend this house to anyone and hope to stay there again myself. Called Jeanette (owner) before renting and she was very helpful and most gracious. Thanks again Jeanette !!!

It is a great place for a summer vacations or short mini trips. I love talking to my guest and being as helpful as possible. The Wifi was weak due to the storm in the area and had somehow knocked off the modem. After resetting it everything is fine. Thanks Again look forward to you returning.
