Welcome to Tomcat Ranch's private vacation rental guest home located in the Heart of the Colorado Rockies. WE HAVE DIRECT ACCESS TO THE SAN ISABEL NATIONAL FOREST, with its network of trails and roads. This mountain retreat is situated on 300+ acres of private land, forested with Aspen and Ponderosa. THERE ARE PRIVATE LAKES ON THE PROPERTY. CATCH YOUR DINNER! This vast mountain retreat, shared only with the owner's home, provides guests with the ultimate in privacy. Enjoy the solitude of the many alpine trails as you hike or snowshoe past a bubbling creek. Recreate and recharge your body and soul while relaxing in a chair on the front lawn and enjoying the spectacular views of Mt. Harvard and Mt. Columbia. Or head in to historic Buena Vista, Colorado, about 8 miles away, to visit the many galleries, shops, and restaurants the area affords. The Arkansas River is just a mile away for those looking for world-class fishing, rafting, or kayaking. The Tomcat Ranch is also central to Aspen, Vail, and Summit County, and is two hours from Denver and Colorado Springs.
The vacation home features THREE bedrooms with 2 king beds in two bedrooms and 2 twin beds in the third bedroom, a sofa-sleeper in the living room, and two twins in a basement. The house has one full and one half bathroom, a well-stocked kitchen, an adjacent dining room, and an ample yet cozy great room. The home is equiped with Satellite TV, WiFi, and a woodburning fireplace. WE ARE PET FRIENDLY, but you must receive prior approval before bringing your pet! We provide an outdoor kennel for dogs. No unattended pets are to be left in the house.
My husband and I live on the Tomcat Ranch with our three children, 3 dogs, and more cats than we can count! We agree that it's been a beautiful place to raise a family and love the connection we feel to the mountains and the wildlife. We love watching the hummingbirds swarm the feeder in the summer. The kids have grown up fishing in the lakes. We've hiked all over the property and into the mountains. We've watched herds of elk roam the ranch in the winter, with their calves. We've admired the beauty of the mountains -- from the snow-covered peaks of winter to the wildflower-filled valleys of summer. This is a beautiful spot!
The Owner purchased this house in 1996
In 1995, we visited this part of Colorado on a vacation and fell in love with the beauty of the area and the friendly people who live here. We bought a home and moved here the following year.
We love to go out for a hike around the ranch in the evening. The kids have used this as an opportunity to look for wildlife. In the summer, we'll pick wild raspberries or maybe the kids will spend some time fishing in the lakes. We've also done many, many hikes into the National Forest and up Mt. Harvard and Mt. Columbia. It's wonderful to be able to head out our back gate and be right in the National Forest.
This was our family's first visit to Colorado and we had the BEST time. A huge part of that was Tomcat Ranch. Given the large array of accomodations to choose from, we really felt like we hit the jackpot. The property is beautiful, the views are breathtaking, and there were so many things for the boys to do. They especially had fun fishing -- all three of them caught something!
This home was perfect for us. It was private, quiet and the views were unbelievable! Great location! We brought our OHV's and one day we left directly from the house to the national forest (Mike can show you where to go). On another day we rode the "The Four Mile" area which are the mountains that you see across the highway from this home, this was our favorite ride! We also rode up to the Tincup Pass and the Hancock Pass (access is around old mining town of St. Elmo). This was our favorite Colorado trip so far! Thanks Mike and Holly!
What a nice place. We only spent 1 night as we were passing through Buena Vista, but it was fantastic. We fished all the ponds, caught and released 18 trout in about 2 hours. Mike and Holly were great hosts, who took the time to greet us,and then show us around the property. Exceptional location if you love what Colorado offers, so private and beautiful. We would highly recommend this property.
Housing accommodations were very nice although we didn't use the sleeping facilities in the basement as it smelled too musty - the girls slept on air mattresses in the living room. The view and quiet we're exceptional! Our only disappointment was the distance we had to travel to take in things we wanted to do. Thank you for your hospitality.

Thank you to Mike and Holly for being so accommodating and showing such wonderful hospitality while we stayed at their beautiful home. Our daughter and pets enjoyed being nestled in the beautiful mountains and fishing with us and my husband was thrilled with how many fish he caught in one of their beautiful ponds. This will be a regular home for us to stay while in Buena Vista, thank you again for a perfect experience!
Rented this home for our Spring Break vacation and it was perfect. The homeowners Mike & Holly were great!! They were gracious enough to give us a tour of the property and point out some local must see scenery. The snow covered property was beautiful and stunning. It was spacious enough to comfortably accommodate our 4 adults and 4 children. The fully functional kitchen was fantastic and the washer/dryer made pre-packing so much easier since we knew we'd be able to just toss in a quick wash each night to keep up with our house full of dirty laundry. The outdoor fire ring and charcoal grill allowed us to gather round, keep warm and enjoy the outdoors while grilling dinner several nights. While we came to enjoy the outdoors, our little ones were very happy to be able to enjoy a movie or two inside in the warm house. The house was clean, they provided adequate towels for 8 people, and having 1 1/2 bathrooms was a major plus. Monarch Mountain Ski Resort was only about a short 35 minute drive away. Jan's Restaurant in Buena Vista had great breakfast, with such huge servings you could actually share a meal! We will definitely be back to Tomcat Ranch and would recommend it to all our friends & family! Thank you Mike & Holly for an awesome vacation stay!
