Welcome to Tomcat Ranch's private vacation rental guest home located in the Heart of the Colorado Rockies. WE HAVE DIRECT ACCESS TO THE SAN ISABEL NATIONAL FOREST, with its network of trails and roads. This mountain retreat is situated on 300+ acres of private land, forested with Aspen and Ponderosa. THERE ARE PRIVATE LAKES ON THE PROPERTY. CATCH YOUR DINNER! This vast mountain retreat, shared only with the owner's home, provides guests with the ultimate in privacy. Enjoy the solitude of the many alpine trails as you hike or snowshoe past a bubbling creek. Recreate and recharge your body and soul while relaxing in a chair on the front lawn and enjoying the spectacular views of Mt. Harvard and Mt. Columbia. Or head in to historic Buena Vista, Colorado, about 8 miles away, to visit the many galleries, shops, and restaurants the area affords. The Arkansas River is just a mile away for those looking for world-class fishing, rafting, or kayaking. The Tomcat Ranch is also central to Aspen, Vail, and Summit County, and is two hours from Denver and Colorado Springs.
The vacation home features THREE bedrooms with 2 king beds in two bedrooms and 2 twin beds in the third bedroom, a sofa-sleeper in the living room, and two twins in a basement. The house has one full and one half bathroom, a well-stocked kitchen, an adjacent dining room, and an ample yet cozy great room. The home is equiped with Satellite TV, WiFi, and a woodburning fireplace. WE ARE PET FRIENDLY, but you must receive prior approval before bringing your pet! We provide an outdoor kennel for dogs. No unattended pets are to be left in the house.
My husband and I live on the Tomcat Ranch with our three children, 3 dogs, and more cats than we can count! We agree that it's been a beautiful place to raise a family and love the connection we feel to the mountains and the wildlife. We love watching the hummingbirds swarm the feeder in the summer. The kids have grown up fishing in the lakes. We've hiked all over the property and into the mountains. We've watched herds of elk roam the ranch in the winter, with their calves. We've admired the beauty of the mountains -- from the snow-covered peaks of winter to the wildflower-filled valleys of summer. This is a beautiful spot!
The Owner purchased this house in 1996
In 1995, we visited this part of Colorado on a vacation and fell in love with the beauty of the area and the friendly people who live here. We bought a home and moved here the following year.
We love to go out for a hike around the ranch in the evening. The kids have used this as an opportunity to look for wildlife. In the summer, we'll pick wild raspberries or maybe the kids will spend some time fishing in the lakes. We've also done many, many hikes into the National Forest and up Mt. Harvard and Mt. Columbia. It's wonderful to be able to head out our back gate and be right in the National Forest.
This was our family's first visit to Colorado and we had the BEST time. A huge part of that was Tomcat Ranch. Given the large array of accomodations to choose from, we really felt like we hit the jackpot. The property is beautiful, the views are breathtaking, and there were so many things for the boys to do. They especially had fun fishing -- all three of them caught something!
Not only is their property filled with more things for you to do in one stay, but Mike and Holly are great hosts. Buena Vista is a beautiful area that also has lots to do. We most enjoyed grilling outside, hanging out by the fire pit at night, fishing and ATV riding. Well worth the price. My family and I will absolutely be coming back to visit. Thank you!
House was comfortable. Excellent scenery. Owner friendly and helpful.
Great location for those wanting to stay and relax in one place. No need to drive somewhere else to go hiking. Good for dog owners and plenty of space for families. Mike and Holly are very accommodating and security deposit refunded promptly. Would recommend this rental for all types of groups.
I took a few friends from the East Coast to stay here over the summer and it couldn't have been better. The house is wonderful! Mike showed us around the property and it was amazing to here his stories about maintaining and cultivating the forest and property. The actual house is very nice and spacious. The kitchen is well appointed and we had great group dinners together there. My favorite part was the huge outdoor fire pit which overlooked the valley and Buena Vista. I would definitely stay here again!
Our group of six stayed for two nights and found the house to be spacious and very clean. Most of the windows in the house showcase stunning mountain views. The Tomcat Ranch has an interesting history and Mike and Holly will kindly give you a tour of their property when they stop by to welcome you. They also gave us a heads-up about the bear and the moose that were recently spotted near the house. The property is private and secluded but with easy access to Buena Vista.
We spent our time hiking, fishing, relaxing, and hanging out by the campfire. The “yard” area is large with a gazebo, charcoal grill (bring your own charcoal), and a big fire pit perfect for roasting marshmallows and keeping warm on a chilly night. Firewood is provided. The kitchen is equipped with plenty of dishes, pots and pans (though the non-stick are well past their prime), cooking utensils, and even spices and oils left by previous renters. You may want to bring a bag of ice if you think you’ll need more than two tray’s worth as the fridge does not have an icemaker. The dining table seats six comfortably. The bathroom has plenty of counter and storage space for six adults, though the tiny half bath (without a locking door) did come in handy.
As someone else mentioned, the house’s decor is very outdated. The carpets, some furnishings, and the not-so-fresh bed linens left over from the 1970’s and ‘80’s all need replacing. I think with a little bit of cosmetic effort, this house could be transformed into a cute and modern mountain chalet. Oh, and reliable wi-fi is provided but there is no cell service at the house.
A group of us rented this property for 3 nights and thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The house was comfortable with a large living room where all 7 of us could sit, enjoy the view from the huge picture window, and relax in comfortable chairs. The hiking was good. The kitchen was well equipped.
