Gorgeous Cottage

  • 4 of 5

This is a beautiful cottage. Quaint and warm and full of charm. It is an ideal location (near Woodstock and all the amenities you might need - grocery store, restaurants, etc...).

The kitchen is tiny, but stocked with almost everything you need to cook while staying in the cottage. And the wood stove basically heats the entire home.

Only hiccup we experienced is that I asked for a roll of paper towels (they provided half a roll) so I could clean the space adequately (I try to leave all rentals in perfect condition), and instead of just providing an extra roll of paper towels I was sent a long text filled with legal jargon about how they don't have to provide this amenity and I should go purchase more myself. It was weird and off putting and after staying in over 50 rentals I have never received anything like it. Regardless, the house is great.

Owner's Response: Thank you, Matt, for taking the time to share your experience of Herb Cottage. We're so happy to hear that you enjoyed your time at the cottage, and appreciated its charm and the extra amenities/touches. However, we're very sorry that your experience was tainted by the fact that you ran out of paper towels. We try to stock the cottage with a generous supply of consumable supplies, including soaps, paper goods, cooking condiments, complimentary coffee/tea, etc. to help our guests get started. The assumption/expectation is that guests will purchase additional supplies as they need them, since vacation rentals are classified as self-help accommodations. Of course we would've been happy to pick up a roll of paper towels for you, had you explained that the original roll was not full (as it should have been). However, you requested a number of backup supplies on your first morning, which led us to believe that perhaps you didn't understand the nature of vacation rentals. We offered the explanation, but can certainly understand in retrospect that that might've been off-putting. Please accept our sincere apology. We hope that you will consider a return visit to Herb Cottage. Please know that you are always welcome, and we are always standing by to help in any way we can.

Perfect Woodstock experience!

I loved every detail of the cottage, everything was so thoughtfully placed - not to mention reading the history of the building and it's prior owner that gave it its' namesake. Can't wait to come back!

A lovely place with heart & history...

  • 5 of 5

I was looking for a quick 'get away from it all' location and this was it. A very cute, VERY clean cottage with a LOT of history that also feels very good. Private, quiet, and simplicity at its finest. And you will find all of the thoughtful details already provided.

You can stop at the natural health food store on the way into town to pick up some basics, and there are a few restaurants in town. Also you can hang a right out of the driveway and drive up to hike the trails on Mead Mountain.

Since I was solo, I enjoyed taking the time to read, watch movies while tending to the woodstove, with wine and good food. This cottage will appeal to your inner artist/writer yearning to break free. I really loved this place and hope to return.

Nice accommodations with easy access to hiking and historical sites in the area.

  • 4 of 5

The cottage was nicely situated. A private spot in a wooded glen. The rooms were clean and the space was efficient. When we arrived it was hot and humid and the cottage was closed up so it was very stuffy. There aren't screens in all of the windows so it took quite a bit of time to cool. Also, if you have any mobility problems, the stairs are steep are a bit hard to negotiate.

Adorable cottage!

  • 5 of 5

My friend and I absolutely loved our stay at he Herb Cottage. It's very charming and well appointed. The location was great, and while it's a short trip to town, there aren't many sidewalks on the way, so it wouldn't be safe to walk in the dark. We really enjoyed our stay and would definitely stay here again!
