What an awesome house. We were greeted by Paula with a island smile and welcoming attitude. We have vacationed on the island for 19 years. We have stayed in a variety of beach front homes but none compare with the view and access to the beach as this house. Three steps and your on the beach with full use of beach chairs, kayaks and sand toys for the kids. Inside there is a view of the gulf from every room and ample furnishings. exploring the island there are turtles, manatees, alligators, starfish, stingrays, dolphins and yes snakes... At the end of a long day there is a hot tub to relax in. So much more I could add. It is just a great place to stay....
We've stayed in numerous homes on the island over the years, but have typically had to get a couple different houses to accommodate our group. This year we wanted to be directly on the beach and all be together, so Big on the Beach was perfect for us! November is our adults only trip and we booked for 12 people and had plenty of room for everyone. The house is not as luxurious as some of the others on the island, but it is completely comfortable, spacious, very clean and great for gathering everyone together or taking time to yourself. One of the best features is being directly on the beach and not having to lug chairs, umbrellas, coolers, etc., on golf carts then down to the beach. So much easier to just walk out your door. Also, we never once turned on the A/C due to the constant ocean breeze. We merely left doors and windows open and the sound of the surf at night, was absolutely my favorite part! Keep in mind, the amount of beach fluctuates frequently on the island. We were lucky and had plenty of beach in front of the house, but I have seen the water up to the house at other times. That's probably the only issue that may effect your trip, if you're expecting to walk right out your door and land on the beach. I would highly recommend Big on the Beach for a wonderful experience and must include the caretakers as part of the reason your trip will exceed your expectations. Capt. Richie and Paula went out of their way to make sure we had an exceptional time and take such great care of the property. Thank you all for another great trip to the island!!!
My extended family and I just spent the last week at Big on the Beach. Talk about a dream vacation! It really doesn't get any better than this! The house was perfect for our very large group, including kids ranging from 3 to 18. The house was spacious and everyone had plenty of room. It was nice and very comfortable but not luxurious- which is exactly what we were looking for! The layout is functional with 4 of the bedrooms downstairs and 2 upstairs. Our family loved to congregate upstairs in the evenings in the large open floor-plan consisting of a family room and kitchen. The very best reason we loved this house was the location! It was literally ON the beach just steps from the ocean. The view from every window in the house was spectacular. The sunsets were magnificent from this location and we experienced all kinds of wildlife, including, pelicans, rays, fish, dolphins, osprey, and even a manatee in front of the house! We also especially loved the many balconies and screened in porches. Mainly, it was so convenient not to have to lug all of our stuff to and fro and to be able to access the house throughout the day, especially with the small children. The house came with 2-3 beach umbrellas, 11 chaise lounges, 3 kayaks, a golf cart, and 2 bicycles. All were utilized and very much appreciated!
The island itself is lots of fun! If you like tranquility and the simple life, North Captiva is for you. We enjoyed the beach club for the pools and the pool bar/cafe'. (I highly recommend the Blue Crab Burrito!!) We visited there frequently just to catch sightings of the manatees at the boat slips. It truly was the best vacation ever! We are already planning a return trip!!
Looking too good to be true from the pictures on the website, we found this beautiful North Captiva get-a-way beyond our expectations. We had a beautiful week with 16 of us, 8 adults and 8 children, ranging in age from 10 months to 18. It was a very comfortable house for all of us with respect to making meals, sleepng, and spreading out with privacy as well as full family time. We loved being right on the beach, spending most of the time in the water and exploring the island, and enjoyed the pools at the club as well. We were even able to get a forgotten medication via a mainland pharmacy then boat delivery within just a few hours! The perfect low key vacation with promises to come back.
This home is so beautiful inside and out. It's location is sublime. Listen to the lapping waves as you wake in the morning for a stroll on the beach. Go snorkeling in your front yard. View manatees and porpoises from the decks of the house. Take a kayak to the sand bar. Build sand castles and sip a cocktail as you relax the day away on the beach. It was no less then amazing! Thanks for sharing your amazing home. It was worth every penny.
My family of 9 as well as my brother in law and his fiance spent 9 days at the Beach House. The location is out of this world! It made us never want to rent another property that is NOT on the beach!!! You really can't get closer to the water than this house!! We had some very strong storms and the waves got big on this calm side of the island, it was fun to ride the waves in the rain as the water was so warm! Our family has been to North Captiva 5 times in the past WE LOVE NORTH CAPTIVA, but this was the FIRST time we got to kayak over to Cayo Costa! Having the Kayaks at the house is a HUGE plus, if you need more you can put the club kayaks on a trailer and drive them to the house. Our family would suggest that if you are fortunate enough to rent this house you don't miss kayaking over to the private island! Just make sure you that if you bring a camera you put it in a waterproof bag as one of our kayaks did tip over on the ride over the second time. You have to be careful as the area in-between the 2 islands has a strong current but the water is shallow so when we tipped we were able to stand in the water. THe trip is under a half hour and less than a mile across and well worth it if you don't mind kayaking and want an adventure!! Bring some drinks and plan to walk to the point and you will find a ton of shells since the charter that brings people to Cayo Costa doesn't give people enough time to ever walk that far ( give yourself at least 4 hours ) Also the landscape is stunning due to lots of trees that died but remain in the sand. We even found a rare fish in the surf that emitted electric currents when you touched it's head, it is called a stargazer. Back to the house it has lots of places to sleep but the bedrooms are small ( gladly give up a big bedroom for one ON THE OCEAN, as is the kitchen , but we thoroughly recommend this house! Saw a manatee over by the dock for Island Girl again this trip lots of tortoises and even found a baby octopus that we saved. This is Florida that few get to see!
