Why spend an extra $50 - $200 per night on where you sleep? Why not spend that extra money whale watching, snorkeling, fishing, dining, or experiencing Maui's endless activities?
Take advantage of the most affordable vacation rental in West Maui. This cute, spacious, and very clean 2 bedroom 1 bathroom home is located in beautiful Napili on the oceanside of the Lower Rd. The two bedrooms include a master bedroom with a Posturepedic Queen bed, and a second room with a trundle bed (beds can be joined to make a king bed or split to make 2 twins). Newly renovated, this quiet home offers a fully furnished kitchen, and very spacious living and dining room areas, everything you need to be comfortable without the outrageous cost.
This plantation home sits on a large 10,000 square foot property with plumeria, guava, mango, papaya, and banana trees. A five minute walk takes you to a beautiful, quiet beach where sunsets are magnificent. A 10 minute walk takes you to the Napili Plaza where all the ameniites (post office, ATM, grocery store, restaurants, pharmacy, beauty salon, and snorkel set rentals) are available. A Weber gas BBQ and a washer/drier are also at your disposal. Depending on what is fruiting in the garden or on the trees, fresh fruits and veggies may also be available.
The property owner, a doctoral graduate in marine biology, lives in a studio connected to the main house. If he is not off-island on a research cruise in some remote part of the world, he would be happy to advise you on where to experience the best of Maui's underwater beauty. Two egg-laying hens, affectionately known as "Salt" and "Brown Sugar", roam the backyard and roost and lay in the coupe at night. The inside of the coupe is monitored with a small security camera by the owner so he can keep tabs on the health and well being of his baby girls when on travel. No roosters so you barely know they are there and they are a lot of fun to watch. This can be your home away from home while you explore all the beauty of Maui.

Welcome to my beautiful home. I'm originally from Montreal, Canada, but found my paradise here on Maui where I have lived for the past 17 years. I am a marine biologist having spent the better part of my last 20 years studying whales and dolphins all over the world. More recently I obtained my doctoral degree learning about Maui's manta rays. Now I spend most of my time devoted to my non-profit, The Hawaii Association for Marine Education and Research, Inc., pursuing its mission to preserve Hawaii precious marine resources through sound research and education. I look forward to telling you all about the beauty of the underwater world available to you just offshore of my beautiful home.
Mark Deakos purchased this house in 2004
I spent the past 17 years studying the endangered humpback whale here in Maui, the best place in the world to study them on their breeding ground. Where else would anyone want to buy a home?
The home is located on 10,000 square feet with beautiful plumeria, guava, mango, and banana trees. It is 15 minutes north of Lahaina, close enough to gain access to all their activities and restaurants while enjoying the tranquility and beauty of the upper west side. The sunsets are spectacular from the beach only a 5 min walk from the house. Bring a beach chair, a beverage, and soak in the beauty. A ten minute walk up the hill is Napili market where the post office, grocery store, ATM, and restaurants are available for your convenience. Or stop in at Boss Frog's for some affordable snorkel gear and enjoy the many turtles, fish, and beautiful corals. In the winter months, listen closely and you just might hear humpback whales singing.
The house is rustic with its jalousie windows. However, we found the house to be very comfortable and convenient. Since it is relatively far from the hotel 'complex', it's quiet. There is occasional street noise but generally very quiet. It's walking distance to Napili Market and Napili Bay. It's well furnished if you wish to eat in rather than out. There's a lot of fresh Hawaiian fruit that the owner shares. The two cats and four chickens were a pleasant distraction. If you don't like animals, you won't notice them and they won't bother you. If you like animals they are fun and friendly. The owner is very kind and generous.
We had a wonderful time at Mark's beautiful home. Thanks for sharing your home with us again!
We enjoyed the feeling of having a "home away from home". This is definitely something special, we valued a lot.
The home is very spacious, clean and has all equipment needed (large living room, fully equipped kitchen, batchroom, 2 extra bedrooms, washer/dryer, large garden, car port...). We enjoyed the proximity to Kapalua and Lahaina. Kapalua beach is great for snorkeling, watching turtles and sunsets and DT Fleming beach is great for watching waves and surfers. We loved to play with the two cute kittens, Yuki and Kuma and watching the chicken in the garden. The garden is great for outdoor dining as well and we really enjoyed all the fresh fruits.
Thanks, Mark and Tracy, for your great hospitality! We, definitely, will be back in the near future. Beate & Gregor, Germany
We had a GREAT 10 day stay in this home Oct 5-15. The best beaches for snorkeling we only 5 min away! The closet grocery store was a 5 min walk as was the farmers market which ran on Wed and Sat! The owner Mark was on site and very helpful! The fresh fruit from the garden and fresh eggs were wonderful. We had a peekaboo sea view from the back garden but beach access was only 2 doors down! Great place for a family to stay!!
This house is very clean, comfortable and easy to find. The house is located in Napili, which puts it right in the center of several beautiful beaches. You will not have to drive more than 10 min. to find some of the best beaches on the west side. Or you could walk 10 min to a beach about a block away! The location also gives you easy access to the main road, Highway 30 , in Maui. There is a market and snorkel rental spot in Napili Plaza Shopping Center right around the corner from the house. Mark provides you with everything you need for the beach including umbrella, chairs, boogie boards even a cooler! The neighborhood is quiet and safe with the lingering smell of plumeria in the air! Great location for day trips to South Maui hotspots like "Road to Hana". The house and kitchen are well equipped with anything you might need. The house was very roomy for 3 adults, having 2 bedrooms is great. And it was very nice to come "Home" to a great house every night. Mark and Tracy are wonderful hosts and are very helpful. If you want to feel like a "local" and really enjoy the Maui Life, I highly recommend this property. ALOHA
This place is quiet and comfortable. Fully equipped kitchen and cozy dining area helped to save money and eat on our own schedule.
Great location for beautiful beaches and day trips on the West Maui to
Kapalua Beach, Napili Bay and our favorite Oneola Bay Beach (if you love big waves and fresh strong breezes ), unforgettable snorkel at Makuleia Bay left wonderful memories of our trip to West Maui!
Mark's place is pretty rustic, but very roomy and in a great location for beaches and day trips on the West Shore. If we found ourselves at home near sunset we would walk 5 minutes to the small but lovely neighboring beach to watch the sunset and swim with turtles. We did encounter a few roaches, but on the critter upside, an adorable gecko hung out above our bed and chirped at 5am daily. :) There are also snorkel renting supplies and a great grocery store within walking distance and the Slack Key guitar concerts were happening just up the road near the Sea House restaurant while we were there.
