THE CHALET AT MOUNT SHASTA

(August 2016) The summer schedule is almost full but still good availability in September. Off-season rates begin in October!

For more information, an accurate quote and discounts / savings please click SEND EMAIL (next to Owner photo). Also in addition to the comments posted on VRBO, some of the best comments are written in our Chalet guest book (the old fashioned way!) or sent via email. Please read some of them (following Owner Profile).

Note from guest Aug. 2014: "You and Terri are the best VRBO owners I've ever worked with. And my friend, a gourmet chef, was very impressed, as she had rented VRBO homes in other parts of the country where the kitchens are not nearly so well equipped."

----------------------------------------------------------

The Chalet at Mount Shasta: Nestled among the pines with views of magnificent Mount Shasta, this charming, modern chalet lets you relax and reflect on the serenity of the area while enjoying the comforts of home. Romantic setting for 2... Yet spacious enough to sleep a large family. The unique combination of outstanding location, exceptional layout, and owner involvement makes The Chalet the perfect place for a mountain get-a-away. ( But if you MUST stay connected, WiFi internet access is provided.)

We, Jack and Terri, live in the Bay Area but go to Mount Shasta so often that we decided to buy the Chalet in 1999 for our own use and for guests. The Chalet is located three and a half miles from central Mount Shasta City, just north of the city limits in a quiet residential neighborhood, recessed from the street. There is plenty of distance (and trees!) between the neighbors. It is very peaceful and private. There is a wonderful view of the mountain from the deck, the dining area, and the upstairs loft area. You will find an outdoor table (with chairs and umbrella) on the deck during the warm weather months as well as an outdoor barbecue grill. And sleds in winter!

The large master bedroom suite (upstairs) has a queen bed, futon sleeper, walk-in closet, and full bath (with bathtub/shower). The loft outside the bedroom looks over the living area and offers a great reading spot, and is also perfect for viewing Mt. Shasta. The downstairs bedroom (queen bed) is on the main level with the living area and is nicely situated down a hallway allowing an escape to privacy. There is and another full bath (walk-in shower) near the bedroom. Additionally there is a reclining sofa in the living room where it is easy to fall asleep unintentionally (in front of TV and wood burning stove) where 1-2 people could sleep.

There is a well-stocked kitchen (with toaster oven, blender, microwave, coffee maker, dishwasher and more) and a separate laundry room with washer and dryer. We have a wonderful guest lending library with a collection of good vacation books, and board games for kids and adults.

We pride ourselves on meeting the needs of our guests. All inquiries and reservations are handled directly by the owners (us!), not a property manager. Our goal is to make your stay as comfortable and enjoyable as possible. We ENCOURAGE early arrivals and late departures whenever the guest schedule allows for it.

We are proud of our growing number of repeat guests, and we hope you enjoy The Chalet as much as we do. We are also dog-lovers, so you can bring ALL members of the family! The Chalet at Mount Shasta has an official Vacation Rental Permit granted by Siskiyou County.

==========

Please read the comments from our guests. Chalet 'regulars' sometimes base their vacation plans on available dates at The Chalet! Here is a typical comment:

(July 2015) We chose the area for our family reunion this year, and were prepared to "rough it" if need be. But we were happily surprised--the Chalet is even more wonderful than the pictures: bright, cheery and sparkling, with furniture both comfortable and clean, and ample bedding and kitchen supplies. The owners are welcoming and gracious, and the fact that they appreciate and make use of the place themselves shows in the care they give both the place and the guests. The location is perfect in that it's only five minutes from shopping, and yet is quiet and forested, with mountain views. It's at the top of our list for places to stay in Mt. Shasta area.

About Jack

Welcome to The Chalet at Mount Shasta! Our family includes Jack and Terri, son Daniel (16) and animals of course (currently 2 dogs, 1 bird, and tropical fish). We live in the Bay Area but love Mt. Shasta, and we stay at The Chalet for 3-5 days about every few months. We are thrilled to have been able to share The Chalet with so many people since we bought it in 1999, and so much appreciate our ‘regular’ guests who have also made The Chalet their ‘home-away-from’ home. We look forward to your visit! [December 2015]

Jack purchased this house in 1999

Why Jack chose Shasta Cascade

We found ourselves returning to Mt. Shasta so often that we decided to buy a house for our visits and one that would be welcoming and comfortable for guests. We love all seasons in Mt. Shasta, but winter is our favorite time there.

What makes this house unique

We looked at many other properties first but when we walked into The Chalet, we instantly knew this was what we were looking for: not in town but close, view of the mountain, quiet, and a house that was not too big but could comfortably accommodate a large family (or two smaller ones). We've continued to add improvements, such as a fence in the backyard for 4-legged family members (2011) painted the entire house (inside and outside) in 2014. We personally made very effort to enhance your time in Mt. Shasta, and you will not be dealing with a property management company.

Guestbook comments from the owner

The Chalet is a great, clean and cozy place. The owner Jack was very helpful from the start and sincerely interested in sharing his family's appreciation of this gorgeous part of California - the Mt. Shasta area. The house is one of the cleanest rentals I've been in, and I've rented everywhere on the planet. It's dog-friendly without a trace of pet smells. We did a fair amount of cooking/baking during our 3 day stay there and found all the pots, pans and utensils we needed. Mt. Shasta water is indescribably tasty, right from the tap. The house is a convenient base for hikers (that's us), skiers, water sport people, or just hanging out on the deck and smelling the pines. We'll be back.

Charming and Comfortable - Great Owners!

  • 5 of 5

We really enjoyed our first visit to Mt. Shasta. The Chalet is in the perfect location. Close to town but with a view of Mt. Shasta in a quiet neighborhood. The house is very roomy and is well equipped. There are little notes posted all over the house to help you figure out what to do, where things are, and how things work. We were up at the crack of dawn, gone all day, and back at night so we didn't get to experience it much during the day time but it was very comfortable to come back to. The owners are excellent at communicating and provide all of the information and directions you need.

Owner's Response: While guests stay at The Chalet as a place to stay while visiting Mt. Shasta, we make every effort to truly make it your home-away-from home. We have provided the amenities that we appreciate when we travel, or ones that were not provided but would have been nice. Making sandwiches to take with you on your hike or day at the lake? No worries, aluminum foil and sandwich bags provided. And lots more!

Wonderful stay

We had a wonderful snowy retreat at the chalet. Jack is the most thoughtful and responsive owner we've had the pleasure to work with. Great fun, great location, everything you need.

Owner's Response: While The Chalet is a wonderful house for your mountain get-away, we offer much more to enhance your Mt. Shasta experience than. We go 'the extra mile' to provide answers to your questions, provide information about the area, and acknowledge special requests. The Chalet is much more than a 'business' -- our goal is help you have a fantastic and memorable vacation. We treasure our MANY repeat guests. (In fact, the first-time guest who just posted this January review has already reserved 5 nights in August!)

Wonderful experience

  • 5 of 5

My extended family(3 people plus dog) ventured to the chalet to enjoy the winter snow. The property is warm and welcoming and Jack and Terri were extraordinarily kind and helpful. I would highly recommend the chalet to anyone who wants a comfortable base from which they can enjoy the natural beauty of the Mt. Shasta region.

Owner's Response: We are so glad to have so much snow in Mt. Shasta this year (almost none previous two winters) and to be able to offer The Chalet to visitors who want to enjoy it. The Chalet has that 'mountain feel' to it but is much more than a 'cabin', with many amenities (including wood burning stove with wood provided, sleds) to enhance your winter visit to Mt. Shasta. We are eager to provide information about winter activities. Plenty of winter left this season!

Wonderful !!!!!!!

  • 5 of 5

We stayed at the Chalet over Labor Day weekend and had a great time! The Chalet was perfect in everyway- Beautiful setting with views of MT. Shasta, clean, private and close to Mt. Shasta City. We couldn't have been happier! Jack was so accommodating and one could tell that he wanted us to enjoy our stay. We will be sure to make a return visit the next time we are in the area.

Owner's Response: It is always so nice to hear guests make wonderful comments not only about The Chalet itself, but also in appreciation of what we (the owners) do to make their stay as enjoyable as possible. As the guest mentions, we do what we can to enhance the entire Mt. Shasta experience of our guests, beyond offering a great place to stay.

A PERFECT RETREAT!

  • 5 of 5

The Chalet was the perfect home away from home for my recent two-week stay. It feels like a much-loved cozy, comfortable retreat that the owners have well cared for. The great kitchen, cable, DVD and audio system were enjoyed and super convenient. The loft was lovely for reading and viewing the gorgeous mountain. The neighborhood is quiet and peaceful and feels very private, even though you're minutes from town and all area activities. Jack is very professional, knowledgeable and prompt in all communications. He and Terri were delightful to work with and I look forward to returning for future stays.

Owner's Response: We were fortunate to meet this guest (on I-5!) as she was driving north for her stay at The Chalet as we drove home (south) after our 4 days there. The Chalet is much more than a business for us as we make every effort (and beyond!) to truly make The Chalet your 'home away from home' as reflected in the guest's comments, and are so pleased that so many of our guests have become 'regulars', returning numerous times since their first stay.

Bright, cheery and sparkling; more spacious than it looks, too.

Owner's Response: This review quite eloquently captures the 'spirit' of The Chalet. We try to make The Chalet not just a 'place to stay', but an integral part of the guest's Mt. Shasta experience.
