For more information, an ACCURATE quote and discounts / savings please click CONTACT OWNER inquiry before booking (under Request to Book). Also in addition to the comments posted on VRBO, some of the best comments are written in our Chalet guest book (the old fashioned way!) or sent via email. This comment exemplifies why guests love staying at The Chalet and why we have so many returning guests:

Note from guest Oct. 2016 : "Everything about our stay at the chalet was perfect. The kitchen has everything we could need including a very quiet dishwasher and an awesome range/oven. The downstairs bed was super comfortable and there are lots and lots of extra pillows, sheets, and blankets. The furnace was efficient but we mostly used the wood stove, which really warmed things up fast. Lots of wood and kindling was provided. The neighborhood is beautiful. There's a large utility room with a washer and dryer and a fenced backyard, which would be perfect for pets or kids. Best of all was the owner, Jack, who was super great to work with. Jack actually contacted us the week before our trip to tell us about the weather forecast, which included only rain. He let us move our dates around to give us some sunny days and the visit was wonderful. Even the rainy days were wonderful in this cozy, beautiful house. "

The Chalet at Mount Shasta: Nestled among the pines with views of magnificent Mount Shasta, this charming, modern chalet lets you relax and reflect on the serenity of the area while enjoying the comforts of home. Romantic setting for 2... Yet spacious enough to sleep a large family. The unique combination of outstanding location, exceptional layout, and owner involvement makes The Chalet the perfect place for a mountain get-a-away. ( But if you MUST stay connected, WiFi internet access is provided.)

We, Jack and Terri, live in the Bay Area but go to Mount Shasta so often that we decided to buy the Chalet in 1999 for our own use and for guests. The Chalet is located three and a half miles (less than 5 minutes) from central Mount Shasta City, just north of the city limits in a quiet residential neighborhood, recessed from the street. There is plenty of distance (and trees!) between the neighbors. It is very peaceful and private. There is a wonderful view of the mountain from the deck, the dining area, and the upstairs loft area. You will find an outdoor table (with chairs and umbrella) on the deck during the warm weather months as well as an outdoor barbecue grill. And sleds in winter!

The large master bedroom suite (upstairs) has a queen bed, futon sleeper, walk-in closet, and full bath (with bathtub/shower). The loft outside the bedroom looks over the living area and offers a great reading spot, and is also perfect for viewing Mt. Shasta. The downstairs bedroom (queen bed) is on the main level with the living area and is nicely situated down a hallway allowing an escape to privacy. There is and another full bath (walk-in shower) near the bedroom. Additionally there is a reclining sofa in the living room where it is easy to fall asleep unintentionally (in front of TV and wood burning stove) where 1-2 people could sleep.

There is a well-stocked kitchen (with toaster oven, blender, microwave, coffee maker, dishwasher and MUCH more) and a separate laundry room with washer and dryer. We have a wonderful guest lending library with a collection of good vacation books, and board games for kids and adults.

We pride ourselves on meeting the needs of our guests. All inquiries and reservations are handled directly by the owners (us!), not a property manager. Our goal is to make your stay as comfortable and enjoyable as possible. We ENCOURAGE early arrivals and late departures whenever the guest schedule allows for it.

We are proud of our growing number of repeat guests, and we hope you enjoy The Chalet as much as we do. We are also dog-lovers, so you can bring ALL members of the family! The Chalet at Mount Shasta has an official Vacation Rental Permit granted by Siskiyou County.

Please read the comments from our guests. Chalet 'regulars' sometimes base their vacation plans on available dates at The Chalet! Here is a typical comment:

(July 2015) We chose the area for our family reunion this year, and were prepared to "rough it" if need be. But we were happily surprised--the Chalet is even more wonderful than the pictures: bright, cheery and sparkling, with furniture both comfortable and clean, and ample bedding and kitchen supplies. The owners are welcoming and gracious, and the fact that they appreciate and make use of the place themselves shows in the care they give both the place and the guests. The location is perfect in that it's only five minutes from shopping, and yet is quiet and forested, with mountain views. It's at the top of our list for places to stay in Mt. Shasta area.

About Jack

Welcome to The Chalet at Mount Shasta! Our family includes Jack and Terri, son Daniel (17) and animals of course (currently 2 dogs and 1 bird). We live in the Bay Area but love Mt. Shasta, and we stay at The Chalet for 3-5 days about every few months. We love all seasons in Mt. Shasta, but winter is our favorite time there. We are thrilled to have been able to share The Chalet with so many people since we bought it in 1999, and so much appreciate our ‘regular’ guests who have also made The Chalet their ‘home-away-from’ home. We look forward to your visit! [June 2017]

Jack purchased this house in 1999

Why Jack chose Shasta Cascade

We found ourselves returning to Mt. Shasta so often that we decided to buy a house for our visits and one that would be welcoming and comfortable for guests. We looked at several houses before buying The Chalet. As soon as we walked into it, we knew this was it. Not a huge house, but not a small cabin... just the right size for a vacationing family. Close to town, in a quite residential neighborhood with mountain view.

What makes this house unique

We looked at many other properties first but when we walked into The Chalet, we instantly knew this was what we were looking for: not in town but close, view of the mountain, quiet residential neighborhood, and a house that was not too big but could comfortably accommodate a large family (or two smaller ones). We've continued to add improvements, such as a fence in the backyard for 4-legged family members (2011) painted the entire house (inside and outside) in 2014, and a new stove/oven in 2016. We personally made very effort to enhance your time in Mt. Shasta, and you will not be dealing with a property management company.

Guestbook comments from the owner

The Chalet is a great, clean and cozy place. The owner Jack was very helpful from the start and sincerely interested in sharing his family's appreciation of this gorgeous part of California - the Mt. Shasta area. The house is one of the cleanest rentals I've been in, and I've rented everywhere on the planet. It's dog-friendly without a trace of pet smells. We did a fair amount of cooking/baking during our 3 day stay there and found all the pots, pans and utensils we needed. Mt. Shasta water is indescribably tasty, right from the tap. The house is a convenient base for hikers (that's us), skiers, water sport people, or just hanging out on the deck and smelling the pines. We'll be back.

Attention to every detail @ The Chalet

  • 5 of 5

We have just returned from a 3 night stay @ The Chalet & would return in a heartbeat. We arrived following several heavy snow storms, and the driveway & a path had been plowed & dug out for our easy entrance. The Chalet was sparkling clean & far more spacious than we had anticipated. The owners, Jack & Terri, are so friendly and helpful in every way. The ease @ booking, and the quick response time to all inquiries is amazing. It is obvious how much the owners care for "The Chalet". Every detail has been thought of, and there are typed, laminated notes throughout The Chalet that address the location of everything from extra blankets & pillows to Kleenex. The beds are very comfortable, and our son slept great on the pull-out futon. Our dog thoroughly enjoyed the fully fenced back yard with easy access through the laundry room (with dog towels provided). We spent our evenings around the table playing the many provided games. The wood-burning stove was prepared with kindling upon arrival, and it provides fabulous heat. We barely used the central heating, and kept the wood stove burning throughout our stay, day & night. The kitchen is stocked with plenty of bakeware, pots, pans, dishes, silverware, etc. We recieved a phone call from Jack during our stay to ensure we did not have any questions & to confirm that all was going well. The Chalet's booked calendar speaks for itself, so plan ahead and book your vacation @ The Chalet ... you will love it !! Thank you, Jack & Terri, for sharing The Chalet. We eagerly look forward to our next visit to The Chalet, !!

Owner's Response: Karin arrived just after several snowstorms hit the area, with about 4 ft. at The Chalet. It was challenging to have the driveway plowed and paths cleared in time for her arrival but we got it done. As indicated by her comments, our goal is to make The Chalet a part of the guest's total Mt. Shasta experience, much more than just a place to sleep. That's why we are so appreciative of our so many repeat guests.

Great getaway location

  • 5 of 5

We really enjoyed our stay at the Chalet. The views of Mt. Shasta and Black Butte from the cabin and surrounding neighborhood are awesome. It is located close to Mt. Shasta City but in a very quiet neighborhood with lots of trees. The owners go out out their way to ensure that you have an enjoyable stay...providing advice on activities, and calling in advance of our departure to advise of weather and during our stay to make sure everything was going well. The Chalet is well equipped, stocked and maintained. So much nicer than renting a condo at a busy ski resort, you really feel at home. The fenced in backyard worked great as we brought along our dog to enjoy the holidays and snow with us. We plan to visit again.

Owner's Response: Besides providing the 'basics' (and more), we do whatever we can to anticipate the needs of arriving guests, including monitoring the weather, especially in winter. These guests were due to arrive on the Friday before Christmas, staying a full week, driving from S. Cal. Moderate snow was forecast for that day so I was concerned not only about I-5 snow conditions, but that the driveway and paths at The Chalet might not be cleared in time if they arrived during a storm. I offered them the option of arriving the following day and refunding 1 night, but they were insistent upon arriving that day. It all turned out well as there was enough snow to make it fun and beautiful without being an inconvenience. As with most of our guests, we are glad that they want to return.

Peaceful Retreat; Great Home Base

  • 5 of 5

A week's stay here was wonderful. The roomy chalet has all the basics of home regardless of the time of year you visit and everything is well maintained; fully equipped kitchen with cooking & baking equipment, and a dishwasher, laundry room, comfortable beds, TWO full bathrooms, and fun games and puzzles, and books to read by the fireside if you want to hibernate. There is so much to see and do in the area year round and the

chalet is central to everything. After each full day, it was great to return to a well equipped kitchen and prepare wholesome food and sleep undisturbed in peace and quiet. The mountain view is Awesome! Communicating with the hosts was easy; very quick to answer any questions. The information binders on the table were very helpful. Thank you to the generous hosts for sharing such a wonderful place!

Next visit, I will plan my trip around this chalet's availability!

Owner's Response: It's so nice when guests are able to stay at The Chalet for more than 2-3 nights to really settle in and enjoy its comforts, truly making it a home-away-from home. It's so rewarding to hear many of our guests say that they plan their visit to Mt. Shasta based on the availability of The Chalet..... or reserve far in advance to get their preferred dates. That is our ultimate goal, to have the guest's Mt. Shasta experience enhanced by staying at The Chalet.

Stop looking because this is the place you want to stay!

  • 5 of 5

We absolutely loved our stay at the Chalet! First of all, Jack and Terri are incredibly organized, provide any information you could possibly need during your stay, and even have fantastic labels throughout the Chalet to help guide guests! Honestly, we originally looked at the Mt. Shasta Resort and found the Chalet by chance -- we believe this random Google hit was kismet! After seeing the resort by the lake, we felt it was pretentious and not us nor what we had wanted for our vacation. The Chalet, on the other hand, felt comfortable, like home, and the perfect place to rest-up and relax for a few days. We loved having the option to cook "at home" or eat out, and spent every morning at the breakfast table sipping our coffee in cute Chalet-branded mugs, watching the squirrels chase each other up and down the trees. The large windows provide a great view of the mountain, and, as it began to rain during our stay, a very serene, zen-like view of the rain falling through the trees. The wood-burning stove is lovely, and we really liked all of the seating options -- including the reading nook upstairs. We would pair a phone to the stereo system, turn-on Pandora to the soundtrack station, and read for hours. And the Wi-Fi is really strong! We found that we even had signal outside. We chose to sleep upstairs and found the bed very comfortable. Extra pillows and blankets, full woodshed and built fire ready for lighting, and Kleenex -- there isn't any detail overlooked and we instantly felt at home in the house. We have already booked our next stay!

Owner's Response: This review captures (in detail) why guests love The Chalet, and keep returning. The Chalet is not just a 'business'. It's is OUR mountain get-away 4-5 times /year, and our main objective is to do everything we can to allow guests to enjoy it as much as we do. This review is especially meaningful since it was the guests' first time in Mt. Shasta, celebrating a wedding anniversary... and they've already reserved the same dates next year, but this time for a longer stay!"

Charming and Comfortable - Great Owners!

  • 5 of 5

We really enjoyed our first visit to Mt. Shasta. The Chalet is in the perfect location. Close to town but with a view of Mt. Shasta in a quiet neighborhood. The house is very roomy and is well equipped. There are little notes posted all over the house to help you figure out what to do, where things are, and how things work. We were up at the crack of dawn, gone all day, and back at night so we didn't get to experience it much during the day time but it was very comfortable to come back to. The owners are excellent at communicating and provide all of the information and directions you need.

Owner's Response: While guests stay at The Chalet as a place to stay while visiting Mt. Shasta, we make every effort to truly make it your home-away-from home. We have provided the amenities that we appreciate when we travel, or ones that were not provided but would have been nice. Making sandwiches to take with you on your hike or day at the lake? No worries, aluminum foil and sandwich bags provided. And lots more!

Owner's Response: While The Chalet is a wonderful house for your mountain get-away, we offer much more to enhance your Mt. Shasta experience than. We go 'the extra mile' to provide answers to your questions, provide information about the area, and acknowledge special requests. The Chalet is much more than a 'business' -- our goal is help you have a fantastic and memorable vacation. We treasure our MANY repeat guests. (In fact, the first-time guest who just posted this January review has already reserved 5 nights in August!)
