CASA LA FRONTERA DEL CIELO (The House Next To Heaven)

The Only One With Spectacular Views Of Mountains AND Pacific Ocean

You will believe it only when you see it in person (as the photos posted here unfortunately do not do justice to the nearly 360 degrees of panoramas). This house sits standing watch at the top of a mountain, at an altitude of over 3200 feet, above the town of Atenas overlooking the great western valley that extends all the way to the Pacific Ocean. Located as it is at 'Heaven's doorstep', it has the most astonishing views found in Central America available right out of your living room, day or night. Not only can you see the Costa Rican lush (possessing all conceivable shades of green!) rainforest from most of the perimeter of the property, but can also take in the Pacific coast and ocean from your infinity pool. Enjoy your very own private garden teeming with wildlife, vivid tropical flora and fruit trees including avocado, lemon, mango, banana, plantain, guava, coffee and other exotic delicacies. Watch and listen to the local wild birds as they sing and flit from tree to tree in the grove behind the house. (You'll be astounded at how close the little chicks get when they pay you a visit at the pool during one of Costa Rica's gentle rains.) Enjoy the soothing breezes from your hammock in the front of the house, or in the house’s unique reading room which allows you, while staying indoors, to enjoy the cross wind that comes up one side of the mountain and down the other. [National Geographic named Atenas as having the BEST climate in the world. Experience it for yourself!] And the vistas don’t quit. You can still drink them in during the unparalleled experience of your very own private 'jacuzzi with a view', or while bar-b-queuing or dining al fresco in the house’s veranda.

The house, which sleeps four to six people, is itself an architectural marvel. The striking wrought iron winding staircase and railings naturally draw your eyes to the dramatic twenty-foot-high wood ceilings in the main house. The kitchen’s silver and gold-veined marble counters invite you to join your other guests to sit and share in a meal or cocktails. The open design of the reading room, with its large windows that make you feel like you are outside while still indoor, provides a road map to relaxation. Excellently appointed throughout, the house’s two other bedrooms and three bathrooms are, likewise, marked by impressive attention to detail as evidenced by exquisite marble and wood finishes, and finely crafted furniture and fixtures.

We suggest that our guests sample the following at least one evening during their stay with us: try the Jacuzzi while turning the outside lights off. On a cloudless night this will prove to be a truly transcendental experience. The beauty of the nighttime sky at our location on the mountaintop is striking. You will swear you can just stretch your hand and touch the ancient astronomers’ celestial sphere. (A sneak preview can be seen in one of our posted photos.) It’s one way to find out why we are named The House Next To Heaven.

A five minute drive to Atenas, but also, given its central location in the country, it is close to most of the main attractions in Costa Rica: including its volcanoes, butterfly gardens, rainforests equipped with canopy tours and zip lines waiting for you to explore them and, yes, it’s within driving distance of the famous Pacific coast beaches. Multiple tours in the area allow for boating, white water rafting, hiking, horseback riding, and so much more. For those seeking culture, Escazú (a sophisticated bilingual area of fabulous restaurants, stores, exclusive boutiques, English language bookstores and movies) is also a 45-minute drive away.

Explore Casa La Frontera del Cielo's location utilizing the interactive map application and Gogobot's guide (below) on this page to see its close vicinity to all the local popular attractions!

You may also check out the interactive map on our Facebook page.

While there view our slide show 'A Day at Casa La Frontera del Cielo'.

As an additional service to our house guests, we offer a fee-based airport pick up and drop-off to help you avoid the potential hassles involved in the transitions into and out of your time in Costa Rica (something to particularly consider when you have night-time travel plans, but a nice comfort to have in any event). We also provide car rentals and tours to all corners of the country, including the Poas and Arenal volcanoes, a 'crocodile tour' to Jaco, a tour to the La Paz Waterfall gardens, and tours custom made to our guests' requests throughout Costa Rica.

Your very own sanctum of peace in the middle of a rainforest paradise, the very next thing to being in Nirvana: Casa Frontera del Cielo, The House Next To Heaven …

* * * * * * - PLEASE NOTE - * * * * ** We can guarantee our guests absolute privacy during their stay as we DO NOT RENT INDIVIDUAL ROOMS, so there will NEVER be other guests sharing the property with you.

Many of the wonderful photos posted here were provided to us courtesy of BRIAN SCHNEBERK of Milton, Ontario

NOTE: Casa La Frontera del Cielo requires a $750.00 safety deposit in cash at check in to cover any potential damage to the property.

About MIGUEL F. GARCIA

The house’s owners, the Garcia family, originally hails from the beautiful island country of Puerto Rico. As is the custom with all islanders, they take their vacations together as an extended family. And together they have traveled all over the world searching for the perfect out-of-the-way place for the family to retire. When they arrived at the house in Atenas they knew they had found what would become the refuge from their hectic lives. While waiting for the right time to retire, the Garcias felt it would be a shame if other people did not get to enjoy their find, which lead to their decision to turn the property into a rental. They are now thrilled to share it with you; so that you too may be a able to step into Casa La Frontera del Cielo, and experience what it feels like to be at heaven’s doorstep…

Why MIGUEL F. GARCIA chose Atenas

Casa La Frontera del Cielo is not just a house that offers its occupants stunning views, a beautiful garden, and exceptional opportunities for observing the local Costa Rican flora and fauna. It is a five minute drive to the unique mountain town of Atenas, but also, given its central location in the country, it is close to most of the main attractions in Costa Rica: including its volcanoes, butterfly gardens, rain-forests equipped with canopy tours and zip lines waiting for you to explore them and, yes, it’s within driving distance of the famous Pacific coast beaches. For those seeking culture, Escazú (a sophisticated bilingual area of fabulous restaurants, stores, exclusive boutiques, English language bookstores and movies) is a 45-minute drive away. Costa Rica's main airport and capital city of San José are also within an even shorter driving distance from our property.

Exactly what we were hoping for!

  • 5 of 5

Our time in Miguel's house near Atenas was magical. Let me share with you some of the highlights:

1. The temperature in Atenas is indeed exactly perfect. You can sleep with the windows open all night and not wake up freezing. The air is fragrant from the gardens surrounding the house, and the humidity is perfect. Not too dry. Not too heavy.

2. You're literally on top of a mountain, so you can see huge birds soar by the window, or hummingbirds. We even saw a tucan in the tree next to the pool one day. I am admitedly not a "bird person" but I think this was one magical way we were reminded how we were up-up-up in the sky.

3. The house is STOCKED. I mean - the kitchen has everything you could need. It is way more stocked than my kichen at home. Beach towels, extra blankets (for nighttime star gazing in the pool chairs), washer/dryer, shampoos... This place is prepped for guests who have high expectations. We didn't lack for anything.

4. The team who owns/ manages/ and runs this property is really fantastic. Miguel is helpful and friendly. Marian and Aad (dutch couple who manage the house and speak perfect English) took us to our house and helped us with random questions during our stay. We appreciated that they completely respected our desire to not participate in their optional tours b/c we are on a budget - there was zero salesy pressure whatsoever. And Marvin the gardener actually lives in a house on the property. We liked this because it made us feel extra safe in a new place, he was friendly and kind and respected our privacy up at the house, and he worked every single day in the gardens - perfecting them. It's like staying in a house in a botanic garden. It's really remarkable. Also, he left us fresh flowers from the garden in a vase on our arrival day, and brought us bannanas & oranges from the garden mid-week. I can't make this stuff up.

5. The location of this home is really great. We had little ones with us, so we went to the beach pretty regularly - and there were several options for us just an hour or so away. We also ventured farther - but we didn't feel like we had to. The house has a guide book that recommends local restaurants, of which our favorite was Don Yayo. Get the chifrijo!

We would not hesitate to recommend this homeaway to even our pickiest of friends.

Owner's Response: Dear Alison, Thank you so much for your wonderful and thorough summary of your vacation at Casa La Frontera del Cielo! We are particularly thrilled to hear you were able to experience the house’s unique features, it’s spectacular views of the tropical rain forest and Pacific ocean, and all the amenities the property has to offer. We like to highlight Aad and Marian's outstanding job in our property's description. They keep working to come up with new and exciting tours to satisfy all the individual tastes of our guests. Our guests, however, are under NO obligation to contract any of their services during their stay at Casa La Frontera del Cielo. It is extra nice, though, when it is our guests who directly reference all this in their review! We really need to mention Marvin more on our description of the property. He does an extraordinary job of maintaining Casa La Frontera del Cielo's grounds. His care of all of the trees, plants and flowers constitutes both a matter of pride and a labor of love for him, and it shows. We are ecstatic that Casa La Frontera del Cielo provided a highlight for your family's oversea trip! We hope you will give us a chance to provide another unforgettable experience for you in the future. Muchísimos cariños, La Familia Garcia

Words Can't Describe!

  • 5 of 5

Words can't describe but I'll try! As noted in many other comments, pictures do not do it justice. Absolutely stunning views throughout the property. We had 7 in our party and everyone fit comfortably. Aad and Yvonne were an absolute pleasure to work with. They ensured the home was ready upon our arrival, coordinated a chef to cook local cuisine (delicious!), coordinated an airport pickup and were extremely responsive to emails (asked for a taxi to go to the grocery store later in the evening and the taxi was there in 15-20 minutes). Highly recommend!

Owner's Response: Dear Rozlyn, Thank you for your review of your stay at our property, Casa La Frontera Del Cielo! We are indeed lucky to have Aad and Marian managing our property, our guests’ stays, and personally handling all of our tours. While it does make us sad when we hear that our posted photos don't fully convey the beauty of our property and its views, it definitely always makes us happy when we hear our guests take pleasure in Casa La Frontera del Cielo's stunning surrounding rainforest and Pacific ocean views. It was most definitely our pleasure to be able to host you. We would absolutely love to have you back for any other occasion! Warm regards, The Garcia Family

Absolutely Amazing!!!

  • 5 of 5

This is an absolutely amazing property!! Beautiful views both day and night, the clouds add an gorgeous opportunity for some interesting time lapse photos as well. The outside is gorgeously manicured and there are plenty of opportunities to see the colorful birds of the cloud forrest, toucan included. We had a great stay! The entire owner/operator team is so helpful. I can’t say enough to how helpful they are. Their recommendations are all spot on and they take care of their clients very well. Be sure to sign up for the coffee tour, it’s one of the easiest but neatest experiences in the area, lunch with Tiá was delicious! I will definitely recommend Casa de Frontera de Cielo to anyone wishing to visit Costa Rica in the future!

Fantastic!

Property was beautiful. Aad was very helpful in all ways. Marvin the grounds keeper is a keeper.we used Waze app to get around and it worked very well. When we had a slight problem with one of our tours, Aad saw to it very promptly and worked it out for us.

Everything is as described and more. We felt very safe. Close to fine food and easy to get to everywhere in the country from this magnificent home.

We could not have been happier.

Thank you to Aad and Marian as well as Marvin and the owner Miguel.

Best to you all.

Owner's Response: Dear Steve, Thank you so much for your kind words. We frequently forget to highlight Casa La Frontera del Cielo's - as well as the nearby town of Atena's - multiple modern conveniences and accessibility to all sorts of wonderful local restaurants! :-) The people of Costa Rica are truly incomparable for their hospitality; and the people of Atenas, being from the small provincial town that it is, are indeed (as I'm sure you found out) especially friendly. We also need to mention Marvin more on our description of the property. He does an extraordinary job of maintaining Casa La Frontera del Cielo's grounds. His care of all of the trees, plants and flowers constitutes both a matter of pride and a labor of love for him, and it shows. I hope you come and stay with us again soon. We'll be thrilled to have you back! Muchísimos cariños, The Garcia Family

Heaven on Earth!

  • 5 of 5

4 of us stayed at this property, myself, my mom, my best friend and her mom. We spent one week celebrating our birthday and enjoyed every moment of it. The owner and property managers were very accommodating and welcoming. We are already planning our next trip, this time with our husbands. I would highly recommend this rental and would stay there again. I also found booking our tours through the family was much better than trying to wing it on our own. Costa Rica was a wonderful place and extremely friendly, the infinity pool ain't half bad either :-P

Owner's Response: Dear Talisa, We like to highlight Aad and Marian's outstanding job in our property's description. They keep working to come up with new and exciting tours to satisfy all the individual tastes of our guests; from leisurely coffee plantation strolls, to exciting visits to the surrounding rainforest to see the local flora and fauna, to more adrenaline charged tours like white water rafting, zip lining or bungee jumping in the jungle. It is extra nice, though, when it is our guests who directly reference them in their reviews. You have to experience it!

  • 5 of 5

First I would like to thank the owner for allowing my family and I to enjoy the property. We felt like we were on the show MTV cribs lol. The property is amazing from the pool to the jacuzzi to the fresh fruit trees. Our great experience is also contributed to Aad and Mar they were fantastic being in a foreign country they made the stay feel safe and pleasant. We had minimal to worry about they provided our transportation booked our tours and took us on our errands for groceries and supplies. I already miss having my coffee out on the patio watching the morning fog clear and waiting for the sun to emerge. The only suggestion we had was that the house needed a full length mirror for dressing but the house is so amazing I would get dressed in the dark if I could stay there everyday lol. Everyone in my party had an amazing time and can't wait to go back!
