2BR, 1BA cottage situated in the small town of Coram about five miles from the west entrance of Glacier National Park. Great base camp to relax and recuperate after a great day in Glacier Park . Expect a clean, comfortable home with nice beds and linens. There is a top of the line big screen TV with cable and high speed internet. This cottage is convenient to Glacier View Golf Course that borders Glacier Park with panoramic mountain views. There also are many great courses near by in the Flathead Valley, shopping in the towns of Columbia Falls, Whitefish and Kalispell, fishing on the Middle Fork or North Fork of the Flathead River and white water rafting. Horse back riding, guided hiking and fishing trips available. Fun for kids with a maze and bumper boat park very close. There is a great water slide waterpark about eight miles away.
The Burlington Northern Santa Fe railroad runs by the towns of Coram and West Glacier, so railroad buffs will be fascinated but others may not like the railroad sounds. Coram Cottage is in the same canyon as all West Glacier area housing so everyone is aware of the railroad to some extent.
This cottage is also a great base camp for hiking and fishing the Flathead National Forest.
This is a very nice and economical home in a safe area for a family vacation, girls getaway, wilderness hiking and outdoor adventures.
I am a 63 year old retired building contractor that has lived in the area for over 40 years. I love to fish, hunt, golf, and play hockey, so that keeps me very busy and out of trouble. However, I am of nordic descent so of course not being in trouble is a challenge. Born in Minnesota I moved here at 20 because it has everything I grew up with and much more!
John Glader purchased this cottage in 1985
I felt people needed a clean, comfortable , kid friendly, pet friendly and affordable place to enjoy Glacier Park and surrounding area without that plastic motel atmosphere.
Sightseeing, hiking, fishing, whitewater rafting, horseback riding and souvenir shopping all in close proximity. Walking distance to excellent restaurants, and other ascential services. Ten minute drive to the west entrance of Glacier National Park.
The house was very clean and stocked with pretty much everything renters would need. The train does come by often as John noted in his description but we were all able to pretty much ignore it after a short while. The property behind the house has roosters so they may wake you up in the morning. Also, watch the bathroom faucet, if you turn it on fast you will get wet. John was quick to respond to our questions and pleasant to talk to. Overall, this place is close to Glacier, a nice place to stay, and well worth the money. I would recommend it to others.
Perfect location for visits to Glacier NP.
The host was very nice and helpful with info on local attractions/restaurants/etc. Cottage was very nice with a
We rented John's cottage in Coram for 7 nights while we explored Glacier National Park and surrounding areas. The home was clean and comfortable with most any household item you might need. The washer and dryer was a real bonus! There was just two of us and our well behaved dog Patch on this trip but the cottage could have comfortably slept another couple in the other bedroom plus lots of room for others with hide a beds and fold up beds and floor space. The cottage is only a few minutes from the West Entrance of Glacier park so it is very handy. There is a great pizza place nearby, Glacier Grill I believe. The Trapline Cafe attached to the gas station is surprisingly good with a full menu. Yes, it's near a train track and there are chickens nextdoor but for US this was not annoying or distracting. There IS a horse next door TOO and he walks on a wooden floor in his hay area...THIS was probably more surprising in the middle of the night than the chickens but only until we realized what the sound was. John was very prompt in getting back to us each time we contacted him with a question or concern. All in all a great vacation and we have already recommended the house to others.
My boyfriend and I spent a week here last summer (I am really bad at writing reviews in a timely fashion) and had a wonderful time. Glacier is a much bigger park than I think we anticipated and getting to the other side (the East side) took about 40 minutes in no traffic. However, the West side has some unexplored areas which were even better than some of the most popular hikes just because there were so few people on them. The cottage is close to Polebridge as well which is worth exploring if you have the time. We did get go over to the East side of Glacier on a few days but I would plan to spend the whole day over there if you do that as driving back and forth can suck up a lot of time. I should note, this is true no matter what side you stay on - it's a large park and it just takes time to get from one side to the other. We were able to do both a horseback ride as well as whitewater rafting easily from this location. There is easily enough to keep you busy for a week near here.
The owner was absolutely wonderful - he was easy to work with, responded promptly to emails and answered all the questions we had. The only suggestion I would make is to put a mini welcome packet with the information of nearby places to eat and directions to the nearby park entrances (though you can certainly look this up and once you've found it the first time, it's easy). There was more than enough space for the two of us and would have been plenty if another couple had joined.
I noticed some prior reviews that ripped him apart for not having games and books and movies....to which I would say, what are you here for? Additionally, when we were there, there were a few games, movies, and books illustrating how attentive he is and how much he wants your stay to be perfect.
I was a little nervous about not having AC given how hot it can get during the day but the trees kept it cool and it cooled off so much at night if you open a window, you get plenty of cold air - it was always a comfortable temperature. The noise was not an issue for us but know that it is there - trains and rooster alike. We got up early most mornings (between 5-6am) to start our day because we wanted to beat the crowds. I highly recommend this as some of the parking and trails can get quite busy. Having a W/D was amazing, do not underestimate the value. Next time we go to Glacier (I'd like to go every year but there are so many other cool places in the world!) we will certainly look to stay here.
Home was comfortable and well equipped with everything you need. We embraced the train sounds, the rooster and the chicken that cannot sing! We enjoyed the side yard and the grill. Nice to be close to the National Park and have a home to come back to each day.
The Pros: It house was very convenient to Glacier National Park. It was very clean inside, had plenty of room to sleep and relax. The kitchen had everything you need to cook. There was a washer/dryer, and grill if needed. There was no A/C but it was cool enough to only need the fans that were provided. The home owner was good to work with and quick to respond to any e-mails. The Cons: The outside of the home and yard needs some TLC, and the beds were extremely hard. The neighbors rooster does start early and has quite the wake up call. We woke up every morning with a chuckle. If your looking for the Hilton, this is not it, but if your standards are more to average taste this house will be perfect. My recommendation to the home owner would be to have a welcome packet with wifi password, some info to local grocery, gas, etc., and a check out list.
