Minnette LeBlanc, Owner, Miu Wong, Bookkeeper purchased this apartment in 1988
This is a large house in the City, but the sun, river air and gardens make it feel like the country. (I had lived in Tribeca, Manhattan, and feel like I bought the garden and the house came with it!) I live on the parlor, or second floor, and the 1st floor is often available for guests. It is quiet for New York, restful, out of the way and private - and 2 blocks away from everything!
Fresh breeze drifts in from the river - there are actually windows on all 4 sides! The garden is full of the scent of roses, lilies, honeysuckle, violets, lavender and herbs just outside the windows. And there is a fire pit and BBQ in the yard. It's great to walk around the corner early in the morning for expresso and newspapers, cappucione and croissants, and sit at sidewalk tables and meet the locals! 2 blocks away is Bedford Avenue, epicenter of the area, with every type of shop, bar, gallery or restaurant. World class food, film, and music venues are just blocks away, and it's safe to walk at all hours.
I had a nice stay at Minnette's place on the south side of Williamsburg. The location is great (only minutes away from great restaurants and a short walk to the Bedford area with shops, cafes, bars etc) and the apartment is really nice and clean. Also you have access to a very nice back yard. Minnette is nice and easy to get along with. All in all a pleasant experience.
Nice location. Felt safe. Really good sized apartment. It is a good 6 blocks plus to the train to the main island - only major drawback. I'll be back
Minnette was very accommodating and helpful. Her directions and recommendations were spot on.
I am a NY native (now residing in Houston, TX) and this was my son's (13) first trip to NY. My Mother met us here from PA.
The apartment is very clean and extremely cozy - we felt right at home from the get go.
The surrounding neighborhood is great for drinks, food, scenery and also feels quite safe. The riverfront has some great views!
Manhattan is very easily accessible via the JMZ subway lines.
The Urban Supermarket is fabulous. Giando's is a great Italian restaurant with spectacular views of the city.
Much thanks and we hope to return soon!!!
The flat was perfect! We took our 15 & 18 year old daughters to NYC, for the older one's "senior" trip. Our thirty+ish nephew lives just 6 blocks down on Grand, and we spent an exciting fun-filled 5 days exploring Brooklyn & Manhattan, with the apartment as our base. My nephew and his girlfriend, long time Brooklyn dwellers, were greatly impressed with the location, and the apartment, especially its decor and closed away garden, in the back. They are definitely recommending it to their friends coming to visit. If we are able to get back to Brooklyn, we will definitely be staying with Minette. We may try the 3rd floor next time, when my knee is healed, I'm sure its just as impressive. Just a great time all around!
Thank-you to the owner Minnette. We have had a wonderful winter experience in New York. We loved the snow and tugging up for the cold weather. The ground floor apartment was so warm, comfortable and spacious for us. Much better than a hotel room. The apartment is impressive with its renovation and lovely fresh painting. We enjoyed the Williamsburg neighbourhood, plus the ease of access to Manhattan. Minnette was at all times friendly and helpful and went out of her way to make our month stay so enjoyable. We recommend the apartment highly and hope to return. Regards Jan and Alan
My wife and I had a wonderful stay here. The apartment is warm and cozy with wonderful views of the lovely garden. I really enjoyed sitting in the kitchen and watching all the birds. The apartment had just been painted and looks great! Great location as well with a number of great options for food and plenty of transportation nearby. Hoping we will be able to visit soon! PS the bathtub is great for a soak!
I must say after carefully reading the reviews, I should have realized the raves were for the top floor apartments, not the ground floor unit. First of all upon arrival you enter down two steep steps immediately into a locked entrance way, this in my case was made even more inconvenient because of a rather large discarded bundle of christmas greenery put there together with some wire bits. Not the most welcoming entrance. The apartment door is at the end of a long hallway, which opens into another long hallway, there are three chairs against the wall, and a desk and a chair at the end of this hallway, to the left is a small kitchen with very low ceilings and exposed pipes. There is a round table pushed up against the wall and three chairs. There is a door to the outside and a partial garden view which is reached by walking up the stairs since apartment is below ground level. The kitchen is well equipped for light cooking, some coffee and butter and frozen bagels were left, nice to have coffee.
The bedroom and living room are reached off the main hallway, fairly large rooms but dark and furnished in what appear to be castoffs. Bureau drawers were missing handles, bedside table placed in front of bureau so lower drawers not accessible, leather couch patched with black masking tape. The floor lamp in the living room didn't work and some of the windows were broken so unable to open, apartment very hot as there were radiators and also the exposed pipes added to the high temperature. The bathroom was small but as this is NY that's to be expected, it would have been nice to have a brighter light in the shower area as when curtain was drawn it was very dim. Good supply of hot water though. Apartment is about a block away from the Williamsburg Bridge and you can hear the trains very clearly. The bed is comfortable but very creaky every time you move. I have to say the owner was very responsive to my query about the heat situation, but I never saw anyone or was greeted on arrival or departure. Just kind of a disappointment staying here over Christmas, apartment not particularly welcoming, just dark and shabby.
The neighborhood location is great, walkable, near all kinds of great restaurants, transportation easy to get around.
Would guess that if the upper apartments had been available, my review would have been different.
