About the property

The backyard is fenced, perfect for pets and includes a charcoal grill.

Located just two blocks from the Matanzas River, the Intracoastal Waterway, our Blue Bell cottage offers guest ample room for relaxing, visiting with friends and family, and entertaining. There’s a private covered deck and patio in the back and a cute front porch offer additional space for guest to entertain and relax.

Nearby, guests will find abundant choices for dining, shopping, and site-seeing. Just a short walk away is the Ripley's Believe It Or Not Museum and the Castillo de San Marco fort.

Nestled in a charming community with picturesque views and abundant activities, our Blue Bell Cottage is sure to be your home away from home.

The city of St. Augustine is rich with history and full of moments that will forever mark its place as the oldest city in Florida and the oldest continuously occupied colony in North America. Founded in 1565, before the colonization of Jamestown by the English and long before the pilgrims landed at Plymouth Rock, the Spanish settled this area and established the now existing city of St. Augustine.

As you walk down the streets of St .Augustine in its modern stage, Spanish influence on architecture and infrastructure is still evident. Despite the many setbacks throughout history including a yellow fever epidemic, pirate invasion, and battlefield of many wars, this quaint historic city continues to offer its guest and community a multitude of stories, folklore, and beauty. All of the many facets of this historic town, its tranquil environment, family friendly attractions, excellent dining, relaxing atmosphere, and the view of the beautiful ocean are the many splendors that attract guest here regularly.

About Steve

My wife, 2 mutts and I have been traveling from Michigan to St. Augustine the last couple winters to renovate this turn of the century home. We love the history, great beaches, antiques and art.

Steve purchased this house in 2009

Why Steve chose St. Augustine Area

We have traveled around Florida for years. We kept returning to this area because it seemed a little less hectic than busier southern locations. St. Augustine is nicely laidback.

What makes this house unique

We love the 4 block neighborhood called the Abbott Tract our house is located in. It's a mix of large plantation houses and smaller Florida houses. It's very quiet; no through traffic feels very safe. It's 2 blocks to the old fort, intercoastal, Ripley's, and A1A antiques shops.

Guestbook comments from the manager

This was our first time to St Augustine and this cottage was amazing! It was in the perfect location and the whole area was incredible. The cottage was clean and had everything anyone would need and we were in love with the kitchen and back porch. When we go back we will for sure to stay here again!!!!

We LOVED the Blue Bell Cottage and its convenient location to the attractions and public trolley.

But be aware that the lock on the front door automatically locks. So when stepping out, if there is no one left inside to let you back in, then make sure you have the key before allowing the door to shut behind you. Also, I can tell you from experience that if you park in front of the cottage you WILL GET A "NO PARKING TICKET". We were told by the authorities, that (even though the description says "parking for two") the only legally parking place for the Blue Bell Cottage is in the garage (which happens to NOT be accessible by us renters) or right at the outside of the garage, which just happens to be on the side of the cottage in the street! So without the use of the garage, "parking for two" would be a very tight squeeze. Because the cottage is on a corner lot with a yellow curb across the front that has a wheelchair access and stop sign, which as we all know means "no parking permitted". When an attempt was made by us to get info/direction on this matter our request went unanswered!

Even better than I hoped!

As soon as I walked into Blue Bell cottage I felt at home and spent a wonderful month relaxing, cooking great meals in the well-equipped kitchen, sitting in the back yard and walking around town. It really is just two blocks from the old town of St. Augustine with its fabulous restaurants and shops, the trolley is at the bottom of the street and there are two large parks to walk dogs five-minute walks away. A friend from Australia and another from Canada came to visit and we spent hours walking, took a Segway tour (fantastic!), visited the farmer's market on Saturdays, walked the beach and drove to Daytona Beach along the ocean road. There are so many wonderful restaurants but I can heartily recommend Harry's and Columbia Restaurant as well as Al's Pizza. A conservation area, Moses Creek, is about a 20-minute drive and was a great spot to walk two active border collies. Near the end of my stay the smoke alarm went off and I couldn't reach it on the 12-ft ceiling, the property management company sent someone over within the hour to replace the battery. I already miss Blue Bell cottage and hope to be back some day! The owners have created a wonderful homey spot.

The house over all was very nice. House keeping could be better.....luckily it was me and not my dogs who found a loaded mousetrap behind a love seat. And there are small bugs. There is a lockbox with the house key out front with an easy to figure out combination. Someone locally had their own set of keys and entered the house 2x while I was out and took it upon themselves to readjust the thermostat and unplug my computer & pad chargers both times. This was alarming to me since no one at the management office knew who had keys plus I had left my 2 friendly yorkies in the house while I was out. They did come in and change the locks for me. So for the last half of my vacation I felt safe. Not going to stop whoever it was though.....all they have to do is access the lockbox and make new keys. I was staying there alone so I knew where I had left my things and noticed all the changes. A family or couple would never realize it if someone entered and moved things while they were out....they'd assume it was done by one of the others. So who knows how long it's been happening.

Now the home location is great! I was able to park my car out front and spend the week on my bike. Town, fort and all attractions are very close. And there's a trolley stop right up the road.
